That plus there is definitely things you can do to differentiate an orange lizard. Varying art style, or like say, adding more to the orange lizard than just, orange lizard. Honestly feels so weird how so often I hear “there’s only so many ways you can differentiate X.” In regards to monster catchers nowadays. Feels like too many people don’t care about being all that analytical about this sort of thing or really comprehending character design that much.
To be fair, Agumon is probably the closest facsimile to Charmander. Both are Dino-like creatures who breath fire.

They are very different aesthetic approaches to an orange lizard, and vary drastically in further appearance.
If someone says greymon looks like charizard they are crazy. The art style also drastically helps separate.
Palmon could learn a lot from having a unique aesthetic.
Legit show a person not familiar with modern pokemon official digimon art and they could tell that aint a digimon. Show them a palworld design and you'd probably stump them.

Here's an interesting thing about Digimon is that it was indeed influenced by Pokemon, but not in the way people might think. Digimon originally started development as Capsule Zaurus & it was to be a v-pet successor to Bandai's old Pocket Zaurus toy line with cute toyetic elemental monsters that could fight one another. Once rumours of a Nintendo published game called "Capsule Monsters" made the rounds, the whole project was overhauled to avoid legal trouble & Digimon co-creator & artist Kenji Watanabe was delighted to design monsters inspired by the likes of Go Nagi, Todd McFarlane, & Simon Bisley.
they really tried to not be similar to pokemon which is funny to me. they just wanted to make a vpet where you battle with the monsters and then have been compared to a monster catching rpg for over 2 decades ;-;

As a digimon kid, this pleases me.
Also, as to why Digimon lines are so abrupt and random, its models. When they evolve, they're increasing to a form with higher data capacity, and the models for that aren't always directly related to what they were previously. They are quite literally accessing preexisting assets half the time, which is also why two of the same Digimon are generally identical.
That's not how 3D models work last I checked.
But maybe hard light holograms have different rules

What they're trying to describe is a comparison to 3d models that get more polygons when they have a higher data capacity as they evolve thus becoming more complex. And the 'assets' part is the borrowing of preexisting data created from our computers. It's why the digital world is an amalgamation of natural structures like forests and mountains mixed with man-made things like capacitors, led lights and wires. So digimon may have tank treads, guns and other factory fabricated objects to even folklore references from stories.
Ngl i really like the fierce Digimon and seeing this explanation makes me wanna dig into it more, what a great explanation honestly lmao

Turning Renamon into a Pokémon and Braixen into a Digimon is another story.
Digimon are badass monsters that look like they’d rip you apart
Pokémon are cuter and look like they’d be your friend
There are of course exceptions on both sides, but that’s the most basic way I’d describe their differences
Digimon monsters are cool.
Pokemon monsters are cute.
Digimons are more diverse in terms of providing for a kid's needs. It can be cute, wholesome, edgy, ugly, and extreme

@@MrIljuha2000 Pokemon also does the same, the only real difference of digimon and pokemon monster designs is that pokemon focus in letting kids have a chance to draw their fav monsters so they don't tend to make overcomplicated designs. We only see more of the cute pokemons because people like them more, but every gen is filled with cool, edgy and ugly designs too
2:18 their evolution lines also converge all the time. Using the pikachu raikou example, within digimon it would also be possible for meowth, nidoran, and tyrunt to all become raikou if they tried hard enough. And fans add digimon to lines theyre not technically a part of all the time, like having fanbeemon evolve into dokugumon. Not technically possible but fans will allow it.

As a lifelong Digimon fan it's very on brand for Pikachumon's final form to be basically a buff dude wearing Pikachu as a hat. It tragically happens to more Digimon than we'd like

As a fan of borh pokemon and digimon.
The stages of Digimon, along with some examples, go as such:
Baby
In-training
Rookie
Champion
Ultimate
Mega
Ultra (these aren't common)
There are also armor forms, but they are not very consistent level-wise with each other. They are usually champion, though.
Why is Ultimate not the last? Why is In-training and Rookie not the same and wouldn't you be In-training to go up the stages. Why as a Rookie just straight to Champion why is there no adviced in the middle or something. Guess in translation the words changed meaning.

The actual evolution tiers are:
Egg
Baby
Baby II
Child
Adult
Perfect
Ultimate
Mega
That's the standard chart, there's also various other modes and evolutions that can be achieved.
Dark Evolution (A Digimon that is either mistreated or influenced by the negative emotions of its Tamer will reach this state)
Armor Evolution
Jogress Evolution (Two Digimon combining to create a new one, "Jogress" being a combination of "Joint" and "Progress")
Mode Change (Certain Digimon can switch between various modes, E.I. Imperialdramon Wing Mode / Paladin Mode)
Matrix Evolution (Humans combining with Digimon)
Spirit Evolution (Humans transforming into Digimon by inheriting Legendary Warrior spirits)
Burst Mode (A Digimon that is already powerful, transforming itself to double its stats)
X-Antibody Evolution (This one is lore heavy. A destructive virus called the "X-Program" ravaged the Digital World, killing 98% of Digimon. Those who survived, developed something called an "X-Antibody" that allowed them to adapt to this harmful virus and turn it into strength)
Digi Xros (Two or more Digimon literally combining like Megazords)
Death Evolution (A Digimon dying in order to achieve a powerful evolution)
Bond Of Courage / Bond Of Friendship (To avoid mega huge spoilers, I won't elaborate on this one. But these two forms are exclusive to Digimon Adventure, and come at a heavy cost.)

Also, dark evolution, armor evolution, jogress evolution, matrix evolution, spirit evolution, death evolution, and death x evolution are all just different ways to evolve/digivolve (if you want to be American)
DigiXros is not evolution; it's its own thing.
X-antibody evolution is debatable about weather or not it is proper evolution.

Even though Digimon evolutionary lines are so inconsistent in tone and illogical from their previous forms I still dig it, adds a lot of chaos to the mix like a Kinder Surprise. Thanks again Harry for the Gold.
Digimon are constantly taking in data from their environment and the other Digimon they fight, they change to suit the environment and adapt to their enemies. Like real evolution.
If a Digimon absorbs enough data from a machine type Digimon, it will become a machine type (A.K.A. Greymon becoming MetalGreymon)
Also, think of "Mon" like a file name
.mon < Every Digimon is a .mon file
The data they take will edit the file, if there's enough of it.
Agu.mon
Grey.mon
Metal_Grey.mon
War_Grey.mon
And since Digimon die and are reborn as eggs, any Digimon can become any other Digimon if the conditions are right.

@@HazeEmry some of the games do also have recolors that are not different digimon they are not canon or anything but they are out there.
Digimon do have different colors while still being the same digimon. Some will have good vs black. There is a blue metal greymon. There is a pink, and a black, terriermon final evolution. There is a black a a white Gotomon. There is a black and a white wargreymon and metalgarurumon. Cyberslueth (I am playing it right now) has all of them as options. I am honestly loving the game way more than the last 5 pokemon games too.
@@1faithchick7 metalgreymon (virus) is an interesting case it was the original metalgreymon but since they swapped in the orange version as the normal metalgreymon, it has kind of become a separate digimon with a different attribute and different digivolutions.

There was a little failure in your "evolution-tree" nyaromon (babylevel) does not go straith to gatomon (champion level). There is the Rookyform Salamon between ^^

As a kid I loved both digimon and pokemon.
I love the quantity of stuff in your videos. I feel like a lot of similar pokemon art creators would just have 2-3 designs per video, but you do significantly more on top of substantiating with comedy and writing. Even your ad-reads are high effort, which is a rarity on this platform. Def subbed 👍

Several Pokemon are either reskinned Dragon Quest tropes and numerous beta and unused designs were just Ultraman fan characters including the finalized Staryu but you are totally not allowed to question Pokemon's ""originality"" lol.

Honestly just saying this because the “Pokémon ripped off dragon quest designs” type of discourse that started cause of palworld is so tiring and just disappointing to me. It farts like, SO MUCH in the face of the history and clear developmental line in Pokémon’s approach to designing monsters. How Gen 1 just generally pales in the comparison to the amount of thought they actually try with now regarding more recent entry’s. It’d egg me as much if people simplified Yo-Kai watch and Digimon this hard too. It’s ridiculous.
And also it just seems like such a poor way of trying to get people to stop calling Palworld designs just “Pokémon rip-offs”, cause at this point I’d question if it even worked, since people still seem to take that exact potshot. Really all it did is make there be a boon of people with weird amounts of spite or beef towards Pokémon.

A) Your channel is so unique from presentation immitating old black & white talk show hosts, to the amazingly animated advertisements (one of the few on yt i don't skip) with such creativity in each one, to how yoi are able to seemingly effortlessly mimmick basically every art style under the sun, i really hope you can reach heights with this channel you'd never imagine.
B) That caricature had me guessing a couple different names till the final pull back, but that is 100% CG5 or Mr. Charlie Green (i will admit i had to look up his real name for this)
Looks like you focused mostly on the original 90s Digimon artstyle. It has changed a lot over the years, even more dramatically than Pokemon has changed.

I believe the triangle eyes were a big part of original Pokémon artist Ken Sugimori's artstyle so I would have to guess he did less and less character art as the series went on.

13:42 Hey now, credit where it's due. Digimon started making short films before Pokemon's anime came out (apparently they were testing into the kaiju movie market as a different approach). They also _started_ as digital pets, whereas Pokemon came out with their digital pet Pikachu years later. It also looks like Digimon beat Pokemon to the punch with their manga. Yes, Pokemon had a TCG first.
And, yes, Bandai very much did take some repeated steps from Gamefreak (TCG, those were fairly common steps.

one modern Pokémon design I can of off the top of my head that features the more classic-looking triangle eyes is Kleavor from Gen 8. it’s pretty fitting too, given how it’s an evolution of a Gen 1 Mon.
As someone who's into both of these franchises and loves them equally, I instantly clicked. Can't wait to watch!
