- Boat ride to Marau took us half the day. Initially, we were told the ride was only 4 hours so we didn't bring food with us on the boat. By the time we arrived we were so hungry! 😂
Marau Sound is located on the eastern end of Guadalcanal Island. You can get there by boat (half a day or more - can be a little bit uncomfortable), outboard motor (same cost as by boat but quicker, you don't have to worry about comfort unless you're not a sea person) or plane (approx. 30minutes from Henderson Airport - we all know this is ultimately the best).
It is one of those rarely visited places but I would highly recommend.
When we heard the Guadalcanal Provincial Government had organised its 37th Second Appointed Day Celebrations at Marau, we decided it was the perfect opportunity to spend the weekend there.
This is a our first day and first time in Marau.

Many thanks for visiting my home station, Marau. Just unfortunate that the station is half the size after the tension, Paruru station next door now gone, owned by Ian Gower family used to be gorgeous with beautiful gardens no more nao, all bush.

Wish you travel south to see lovely rivers. May be next time, Christmas should be a good time, you do not need to have showers because you will be thrown in the river or sea all day.
That is sad that the staka naes ples lus afta tension ia. Mifala barava hapi for kasem Marau. Ples ia barava naes tumas nao and definitely recommend fo others mas visitim tu. Mifala seh fo go up osem lo Sukiki but no garem taem. but still garem plans fo return and visit other ples lo area ia :)
