No, Mike, you ARE amazing and definitely following your calling. That "ad" was hilarious! I had a large dose in April 2011 and today my Lisa and I make a loving home. Thanks for all you do! ~ Chip
A little bittersweet...thankful for the twins and that mama accepted! Absolutely adore watching you tend the animals, and how tender you are with them, especially the little ones, and this situation...Great video!
I think I got a Bingo B 4 and 13 .. yep it's a good one .. lol thx for your time and making a great difference in our world in teaching those who always wondered how things work it definitely let's them see how much is involved in keeping them from hunger !!! Lots of respect for you both !!! Our mini white face is doing very good named her Jezabell she will have a good life here ..On Our mini Ranch !!! Lol ... thx for the video guys ...
The circle of life is ever present in a rancher's life. And it is in those small moments of success that a rancher's heart smiles! I saw it time and again growing up on the face and in the walk of Grandaddy. Ranchers truly are the heartbeat of our country!
My gosh. You have your hands full constantly. I know a lot about horses and breeding. You are teaching this gal things she did not know about cattle. Thanks
I have a small cow calf operation in Alabama. You make esophagus feeding look easy. I always struggle with it and worry about getting the tube into the lungs/airway and not the esophagus. I would love to see a video showing the details of how you do it with confidence that you’re not doing more harm than good. Thanks for informative and well produced videos.
Thanks for the great videos! I enjoy watching the cattle videos a lot. Sorry for your loss of a calf but glad you was able to have twins and let the mother adopt the other one.
I just got your channel recommended to me . This is.. the 4th video I've been through. With life comes death... and also me and my 3 year old laughing at the red calf as he fell out of the warmer. I appreciate seeing the bad with the good, especially as someone who is probably too sick to ever farm herself.
Hi again! Perfect timing in life is nothing but an awesome miracle and you had one for sure Mike. Light from the darkness. A positive from a negative. An example perfect to apply to Easter week Mike. It warms my heart to watch your tender care and the confidence in your judgement and swift action. You've come a long way Mike from your know nothing days!!! All your hard work and study have paid off for sure and you should be very proud. Thx for sharing especially this time and I really hope the remainder will go smoothly. Hang in there Mike!
Mike, I've been watching Cody for a long time. He gave you and Erin a huge shout out on his last video(I'm sure you saw it). Your families are from two different countries, yet you both fight for the life of the rancher. You both have my utmost respect!
Glad it worked out. We lost our first calf of the year to coyotes, we bought a drop calf and put the cow in a squeeze shoot where the new calf was allowed to nurse, we also rub milk from the cow all over the calf and that works too. Good video, thank you for making them.
Shalom! Thank you so much for sharing. This is a fairy tale come true, with your skills and expertise. Mom gets a baby and the baby gets a mom. Blessings to you, Erin, Mom and the kids!
Last week we had a stillborn calf born. We buried it in a small grave which made our heartbreak more. The mama was so missing her calf and mooed for it for some time. We have a small herd and have only lost one other calf, but it was older and a bit bigger. So sad.
Good video I've never tried that powder but sure would beat skinning out the other calf. There's no better feeling than when you see an orphan calf successfully adopted
I never but i mean never would have thought i was going to see a day where a cowboy will be asking people to see him doing his job at a ranch... And that's just great!!!!! 🐴🐮🐔🐃🐕🐖🐐🐎🐄
Some of the sad part of ranching. Inevitably you will lose a calf here and there but luckily like you said when you needed a calf you got one. Glad to see it end happily this time. Hope the rest of the season is better for you.
Watched some of Cody's blogs yesterday. Some are quite gross. Lots of information with them and a few chuckles. Sorry about the calf. Hope things are going better today and hope the weather continues to improve. We had snow sleet and rain here in NW Indiana, Sunday. Today 71⁰ have a good week.
Great to see another rancher with a good sense of humor, most don't. And orphan no more does work, I have used it for years. Another great product is called mother up.which comes in a liquid form the combination of the two works wonders, anyway it has for me. Good luck on calving season mine ended about a week ago. Now comes branding , vaccination, and early summer turn out.
Another job well done Mike! You can sure see your love for those calves. My wife was so happy with how it ended up after losing the little guy. God is so good!
Mike Our Family in Finland enjoyed all the videos of the little calves. Hopefully you might answer a few questions that some of your viewers would like to know as well In the cold frozen winter months & early cold spring calving season would it be at all possible to bring most of the pregnant cows or (heifers) to a barn or shelter or covered coral to watch & to observe & to monitor the newly born calves more closely? Can you tell ahead of time, ahead of the calve birth, which cows will be giving birth within a few weeks? Regarding the loss of the little newly born no4S calve, Can you give the colostrum (milk) before heating the calf in the calf warmer? Is it difficult for the calve to breath in the calve warmer with only a hole on the top side ? Can you give the weak little calve IV fluids yourself rather than wait for the veterinarian to do it ? Could you inject some type of antibiotic, antibacterial (peniclillium) into the neck of the little weak calve? Can you use a small oxygen mask (like patients in the hospital) to keep the little newborn calve breathing? What other suggestions do the veterinarians give you about weak newly born calves? I felt so bad for that little calf that died but life goes on, but you have other calves and your taking good care of them. Thanks for the video. Look forward to the next video
Mike this was a classic video showing what really happens on a working cattle ranch! Honestly it seems that whenever a cow loses her calf it usually is followed by a set of twins! I don't know why this happens or but I think there is something to it! I have heard several tricks to get a cow calf to claim an orphan calf and yours seems to work! Good luck calving out everything and lets hope the weather stays warm enough to grow some good grass!
Mike, I have used sugar water and vanilla flavoring in a squirt battle. Make sure the water is warm. Soak the calf in the mixture and finally squirt it all over the cow's nose and up her nostrils. It has worked every single time for me.
Great video, sad regarding eyebrows calf. Love the ending and understand your wishes. My wife and I found some of that when we adopted the little ones at 4 days, 13 months and 24 months. They are now 12, 13 and 14.
It is very good that you were able to graft the mom#4 to the lucky 13. How many times do you need to graft a calve to a Mom? Sorry for your loss. You are a good farmer/rancher, but those are what calving is all about every season.
Hi Mike, that gave me the head Willies to it was definitely different but amusing. Good save on the calf. Not much to say about the other. Once again another informing and to the point video! THANK YOU FOR THE GREAT VIDEO'S!!!!!!!
First off those calf heaters are absolutely a must have. I have three of them. I used them on over 200 calves this spring. ( Calvin in February in ND) When I adopt a calf I use nothing. First thing I do is put the cow in a head catch in the Cavin pen and let the calf eat. Then they go in a 16X24 pen. Maybe once a year I will have to put the cow in the head catch a second time. I probably adopt 6 calves a year and I can't remember the last time a calf wouldn't take the calf.
As a farmer you HATE HATE HATE to see a calf to die. We lost so many last year. We had to cut off some of the heads of the calves who were stuck in the mother. We lost a cow and calf do to the calf being stuck so bad and we couldn’t get a vet to come down. It’s sad but it’s life. I wouldn’t trade this life for anything but it’s sucks losing animals especially the babies. But thank you for adding in some laughs at the end.
I have the same warming box and I had problems with the grate falling down so I zip tied it with about three and it seamed to work fine. This has been a terrible winter for us here in Western South Dakota.
Another trick, I have had some success with getting a cow to accept a non-related calf. Just prior to the initial introduction, pour corn syrup over the calfs back. Calving season for me, always requires a quick trip to the grocery store. Hope, if you find yourself in a pinch, this will help.
I had a still born this year, luckily a neighbor had a 3 day old orphan calf and mama cow took him just fine. I draped the after birth over his back and did a switch-a-roo trick with the calves, out of mom's sight, like you did. Sorry for your loss but I'm glad it worked out in the end.
I have to say your vids are funny informative and full of insight of the day to day life of ranch life ,It gives folks a brief high and lows of your life , lets people see where food might come from ,Thank you and please keep it going
I've used baby powder before to get orphan calves on other cows. Put it on the calf and the cow. Generous amounts are best and it's worked for us, but it's still kinda a 50/50 thing. Glad it worked out though. That's a blessing! Good video!
Great video . This is my first up to date video I have watched a lot of the older ones since I found your channel love it love it . Keep the great videos coming

Great video of reality on the ranch. I wonder though do they have a product like "orphan" for dogs? When a mother rejects her babies? I really appreciate the way you sort of develop wisdom as you go. Learning about the calf and mom and timing and such. There is a sort of ranch wisdom that can connect with so many other things life. Great video.
