Loved the short trip I had on the Metro last time I was in Sydney. London's Crossrail is a joke. Over budget and not yet open. The original opening date was supposed to be late 2018. The London system isn't driverless.

Just as a matter of interest, the first driverless underground railway system was the London Victoria Line opened in the 1960s.
But the unions wouldn’t stand for it so “drivers” (even today) just open and close the doors.

I don't know why the platforms have doors to access the train.... Why??? How useless really, people know how to catch trains.....

It’s a much higher safety standard than normal trains which allows a driverless system to operate at maximum efficiency. It’s also a less expensive system to operate over the long term despite the higher initial costs.

Its for safety precautions. And no, they're not useless by any means.
