      They are sending me one actually. It’ll be a while before it’s out, but it’s certainly on the way.

    Jøtul products are sold throughtout the world, some markets have a legal requirement that the door should close by itself and this feature has to be fitted from factory. Its usally pretty straight forward to disengage the spring.

    I like your "very different" socks 🧦, cannot believe nobody spot them on the video...? 🤔 😂

    Two questions...
    1. Do log burners burn any better with wood that multi fuel stoves? The multifuel id like says 82% efficiency but would a wood only be best?
    2. How do you change the stoves all the time when they're all different heights and do you not sit the flue on the stove and then build up?

    • @TheTortoise
      @TheTortoise  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Okay we’ll number 1:
      There is a difference between efficiency figures and getting what a person wants out of their stove. Typically a wood only stove will have no grate or ash pan and the fuel will burn in its ash. This has big advantages for some, because you have more space inside and no air under the fuel. So (in the right stove) you can get greatly improved burn times with a wood only stove. Equally a multifuel may (typically) burn faster, but it potentially has more flexibility for the right user. Most will do great with an 82% efficiency multi-fuel stove. Some will benefit hugely from even a lower efficiency stove, that is focused on wood as they can potentially keep it lit for very long times.
      2:
      I have the whole system suspended above and then adjustable pipes in the room 😅👌

      @TheTortoise thank you for your quick response.
      My conundrum between multifuel or wood only is because I'm starting a self build home and having a freestanding stove in the corner of the living room with twin wall flue passing up through the first floor and then the cold loft and out.
      I had my sights set on the 82% 5Kw ACR Solis being a cylindrical shape and multifuel in case i fancied some anthracite on it. It takes 400mm logs, it has a 150 flue and a rear direct air intake and around the 2k price mark which i don't really want to spend much more. I also considered the ACR neo wood burner with a 125mm flue, im not sure if this makes any difference.
      I have a huge amount of logs ive processed so this will be my main fuel for many yrs semi rural.
      I'm new to it all and not had chance to view the ACR in person. Some Turmatech looked nice too.

      Given that your effort has gone into prepping for wood usage I would have a look at the Heta Eclipse. I’ve obviously only just tested it, but it was incredibly impressive on fuel economy and burn time. The others you’ve mentioned will offer this flexibility, but will also take from you in terms of the function you can get out of your wood.
      It’s a tricky one 🤷‍♂️

    What do you think of portway stoves ? And I’ve not seen you review one yet .just wondering why. Thanks

    • @TheTortoise
      @TheTortoise  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Charles Portway was the man (a long time ago) who made the Tortoise stove. A stove is very much like to own one day, but they’re very rare and expensive.
      Portway now is distributed by BFM I believe and I don’t know much about them. They don’t seem to want to speak to me, strangely. I’ve never dealt with them or offended them I don’t believe, but I guess I’m just not their cup of tea 🤷‍♂️

      @@TheTortoise I have the portway arundal multi stove which was around £500 brand new which to my knowledge are or were quite popular in 2022

    • @TheTortoise
      @TheTortoise  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yea. I mean in 2022 the stove industry was completely overrun, that essentially every stove that was in-stock would sell faster than it could be made. Things have caught up now, but as I say I’d be interested to speak to Portway!

    I’m a big Jøtul fan. Too bad Jotul doesn’t have more stove options over here. I’d like to try out the F118, F300 and F400. This F200 would be a tad too small for my cabin.

    • @TheTortoise
      @TheTortoise  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Do they not make the larger sizes for your market? I thought they did?

    • @wobdeehomestead
      @wobdeehomestead 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      They discontinued the 602 v2, 3cb, F118,F400. They now have the F445 and F500 V3 both catalytic and the steel firebox cast iron clad sided F35,45 and 55 are also available. So only five options. Yes they do have a couple larger models but I’m not a fan of the catalytic system they installed. Rumor has it all Jotul stoves for the North American market will have this catalyst system installed to meet the new testing standards coming out. I have the F45 which is a medium sized 2.3 cu ft firebox and it works well but I wish it was more radiant like the F118 or old F400.
