I admire Robert Shiller very much. He is so intellectual & humble in his approach to demonstrating concepts. He is far from condescending & describes complex ideas so poetically. I am so grateful to his existence. He reminds me of the 'Carl Sagan' of economics in a way.
Why are you grateful, what has he done for you? Presenting ideas, in a “aw shucks” way doesn’t mean those ideas have any value. Not one of his mathematical models has produced a single thing. His colleague Swenson is the actual economist.
Just finished an online course taught by Shiller and it was worth every minute being a fly on the wall during his lectures and Q&A sessions with the class. Onto his books now
Prolific Speaker .... I admire Prof. Shiller alot I even love economics more because of him. He distills economics in the most humble and understandable way to both the layman and the professional student so easy to love 🙏🇲🇼
As a future economist, Robert Shiller is an amazing example of a brilliant mind and a incredible capacity of talking about complexity points in a simple way. 😉 amazing
If most people at Yale get an A or a B, it has failed as reputable institution. My university curved every class in the Sciences. That guaranteed 20% failure rate. It meant that 1/3 the students in the Honour program would complete it, as a D would knock you out of it. Each year your marks dropped as the bottom of the class was scraped away. It sounds like Yale is just there to rubber stamp the wealthy. So much for American exceptionalism. Salesmanship indeed!
- shiller knows full well that needs are assigned by outsiders based on their view of how people should live - entrepreneurs succeed by satisfying the wants of consumers - that is the biggest difference in the world - shiller's hubris led him to forget that
why did he put the books in a pile instead of piling the books to spell Yale or ted or read or ideas or something... or maybe hes testing to see who will read the book or pick the book and so on.... what do you ppl think?
Don't ever tie your hands together if you're going to give a speech, because it usually gives the sense of you feeling awkward, making the person watching you feel uncomfortable, and it shows that the person speaking has "something to hide" which makes you feel odd.. Also, refer to using hand motion, opening your hands, and so on, it gives people a sense of comfort when they are talking to you, it gives you some sense that the person speaking is open, and friendly. EDIT: Also the position he is in, usually means that he is "protective" which doesn't give a person watching a pleasant experience, usually people do it when they are afraid something is going to happen or are in a gaurd position
Insightful. We are far away from Adam smith's invisible hand view of free market. Praise is a double edge sword, while it can flatter the ego,it could have the opposite effect when not authentic . Genuine works better. I am looking forward to attending your talk on Campus in mid October
Education attainment enhance personal reputation and it also provides a socialization opportunity - a network to foster economic opportunities for it students and graduates . While the experience and skill level represents the base level of a worker's or professional value which maybe similar between educational institutions of different levels of reputation - - Outside oligarchical or monopolistic market forces, branding and market reputation of more famous educational institutions like Yale represent the major factor in higher or more excessive market evaluations of its students and graduate's professional worth. Negative Marketing represent major cause of excessive market de-evaluations - for example Sexism and racism is used to harm a worker's reputation or artificially enhance a worker's reputation - For example, women are on the average paid less for for same job as a man... Also market access to information is not always efficient - insider knowledge and insider access to markets means insiders can be proactive while market outsider are reactive and are more at risk to losing money. .
the words of the book do not reach the audiences of the book. because... it's just too bad that in this cruel world full of trickeries, traps, profits for few at costs and long term costs of many...the ones who need to read the book are unable to afford the entire book! or is this book really for the tricksters to study up on all tricks and maybe be tricked or not I dunno.. anyways I cannot afford the book to learn about what had happen in the world full of tricks and the tricks to safe guard myself by not being a phool :( so what's in it? does every home get send a copy of the book for Halloween.. the tricks as treats of knowledge?
+michaelphelps420 ...it says a lot that Tedx can be more (than) form, and will prize substance. His delivery is (for me) authentic, credible, and insightful. Economic reality isn't so easily compartmentalized or so easily boiled down onto 5x3 index cards. Nice to see that form doesn't always trump substance.
+UberJam-Sam! judging ted talks by delivery instead of content is the equivalent to herd mentality investing. Michaelphelps420 has a strong spirit animal.
This talk happened to pop up and, for some reason, I decided to take a look. It was a terrible disappointment. In my opinion this talk is not worthy of praise. I wonder if this Nobel Prize laureate purposefully gave a terrible talk in order to see whether, despite the poor quality, people would praise him. How ironic that would be. :)
Fair critique. I've taken several classes from Prof Shiller and he is a bit scatter brained at times when lecturing but his research is quite thorough and interesting.
I am not special to you but I am very special to me, the most special person ever. Same way, if I have one dollar and Bill Gates has a billion dollars, my one dollar is more money than Bill Gate's one billion dollars BECAUSE IT'S MINE. My life is special because it's MY life. I think the self is a really good place to be centered. What happens to me matters to ME.
First of all I too admire Robert Shiller! And for more: His last name is very big in Germany and almost all over the world. Praise of worthiness, in Islam we get to know one major aspects among many is: Only Allah swt is the ONE who is worth of all praise. If once the concept of God or better of believing in the oneness of God, our psyche is freeing all our potential. ... OF course there are lots of steps before that which must have been gone through. ... Sorry for the maybe heavy expression. But English is my third speaking language. ...
+George Chan I'm not sure that I read Your sentence quite right, but You seem to disagree with the presenter. Would You mind to elucidate ? Best regards.
This man, without question, is a world class human being

He is trying to sell his book so of course he don't want to give out lot of information but at the same time likes to keep people thinking about it.

Saw him give a talk live in Seattle. An economist who really loves his work that I know fell asleep in the audience. Genius yes. Monotone, also yes.
(My spirit animal is a mongoose)
It’s not even a real ted talk, it’s a Tedx.

You need to learn to look past the presentation and see the message.
