Born in Glasgow 1954, Calder Street. We moved to Fourth street Pollock Shields. I was able to ride the short distance into Central station and still love it. We went to Australia 1964 on the Fairsky and my first visit back was 1977. Others followed then in 2012 moved back where I intended to stay in Glasgow. Circumstances now find me in London but if I wasn’t now disabled I’d be back in Glasgow.
We were poor but I had a great time. Memories can be wonderful but also painful.

Love tbe photos, especially the kids playing in the back court mud.
Brings back memories of our childhood in the 50's at a similar age playing in the "manky" back courts in Parkhead.
Heaven knows how we all survived eating pieces thrown oot o' yer maw's windae wi yer hans covirt in muck............

I came from the same background in Glasgow in the Sixties and seventies and when your growing up in the Gorbals like I did you never thought of it being deprived, but my Cousin sent me a Photo of my old Street at my close, jeez that's when you realise it was pretty bad, but I still love my City and People 😊 just saying from Glasgow 😎🇬🇧

Great video. I love the photo of the Carrick getting under the South Portland street bridge... that was tight. Would like to see a bit longer dwell on each photo, maybe 5 seconds?

Loved the photos. I lived in Glasgow, Cowcaddens, in the 60s until the age of four when the family moved South to the English Midlands. The photo of the ship at 0:42 brought back some memories for me. I was on that ship during an educational school cruise in 1974. Hundreds of young boys and girls from the UK and Canada being cut loose for two weeks around the Mediterranean. Didn't get the education I was hoping for - probably a good thing. Never knew the ship was built on the Clyde. Thank you for putting this together.

My apologies buddy if you found it lacking. The images for me are so eye catching and engaging that I didn't want to distract with dates/streets. As is the style in the videos that inspired me to make these, old settlement photos of New York, without writing, just photo and imagination. I do have all the information to go with the photos simply didn't want to interrupt the viewing experience. Follow me on Facebook as I share individual photos with dates often 👍

I agree with the previous comment. I really wanted more time to study each photo. It is very frustrating to see a scene you recognize and it passes in a flash. Dates and street names would add incalculably to the enjoyment of each. Is there any way to pause these videos? But thanks for posting!

You're welcome my friend glad you liked it 😎🙏🏻 the photo at 9.11 is of the old Kelvinbridge Railway which was after Botanic Gardens on the line and before Kelvingrove tunnel you may see when passing between KB and KG. The shot is looking at the portal which was situated where the Inn Deep Bar is now ✔️

It's an interesting setting isn't it, well its the Old University of Glasgow that was in Town, the area of Blackfriars just off High Street. Very old photo though, there's a few of this area worth taking a look at if you want to research the Old University. Incredible architecture with an otherworldly and ancient ambiance 🔎

@@2468zyx Howdy 🤠 the pointed thing? The plane? That was a simulated event in Kinning Park, I'm sure. You can research it, very interesting and looks like great fun, the public were practicing for rescue in the event of plane crash. Perhaps when Glasgow Airport first opened? The Well that is sealed with the one boy looking at it in sadness? That is apparently behind the Saracen Head Pub in Barras, maybe need to go through pub to see it as I tried externally from Street alleyway and can't see it. Or if its the other Well then that's Ladywell on Ladywell St next to Tenements Brewery and Necropolis ✔️ Thanks for enjoying the selection 📸🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
