    Best Hermit quote ever at minute 9:00. "I don't live there cause it's town. Where there is a town there's people. And where there's people there's not me."

    The wr450f isn’t a dual sport. It’s an enduro. It’s meant for offroad racing. Not the casual, comfortable cruise.

    What do you like about it! You said a bunch about the tuning, what about the suspension? I guess I need to read on about rider weight, suspension setup. I would definitely run it harder than you. They do make TTRs.

    i once was stuck at a red arrow for 9 changes and when I finally went on the green straight light with no on coming traffic you know what happened.... I hadn't see a two tone car stop adjacent, next thing the night was lit up in blue and red....
    nice video When I first got my FE450 the hash throttle response was a new learning curve, and it has taken a couple of hours to learn how to accelerate with out shredding my Michelins on sealed pavement and similar on gravel

    This guys going on talking smack about an off road bike but he just riding on flat dirt roads. I have a wr450f of my own and its a face melting demon of a bike.

    • @DeltaD13
      @DeltaD13 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hermit DaVlog I means th WR450F have a many limiters by default. accelerator open only on half. In air filter and in exhaust pipe have a limiters. full manual and information how to fix it all for full power you can find in internet. After that your bike will be really fast.

    • @HermitDaVlog
      @HermitDaVlog  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, did all that. Including cutting the grey wire. Still didn't care for it. I think if I was a more advanced rider and always off road it'd be good. As a dual sport that rarely gets over 6000 rpm, it just wasn't doing anything for me that the WR250R wasn't adequately doing for me, and on road the WR250R was much more pleasant.

    • @DeltaD13
      @DeltaD13 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I see. So if ride on road WR250R is better for you? How about off road and hard enduro?

  • @RideAMAP

    Definitely need to know what kind of riding you are going to be doing. I have purchased at least 2 bikes before and then sold or traded them quickly there after cause the bike wasn't suited for my riding.

  • @bchant19
    @bchant19 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    have you ever had the chance to ride minitstops daisy chain the duhfactor moded wr 250r 290 big bore+ stroker crank surely those mods are the answer for what the major complaint is about the wr 250 and that the engine is lacking grunt at the low end?

    • @HermitDaVlog
      @HermitDaVlog  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't. Ministop rode mine. When he did he said I should really do the 290 Athena kit. I probably will some day, but every time I get that much money and time I end up just buying a whole dirt bike and redoing it. I know the Athena kit is only $600, but I got my XR250R and XR400R for $1000 each and the XR400R has way more power than a WR250R even with a 290. Also I think if I were to review a newer (2014+) WR450F I might come away with a very different opinion.

    • @bchant19
      @bchant19 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      true but the big bore kit and stroker crank bringing the displacement to 310cc surely makes sense for someone who wants the electric start, fuel injection, 6 speed gearbox and more modern design i.e good suspension alloy frame etc etc that only the wr250r offers as a true dual sport bike, of course, the drz 400 is the next best thing as we all know unless you can afford the ktm 640 or the newer 690.

    +Hermit DaVlog Thanks for putting out this video. Awesome job as usual. Your criticisms of the WR450F are very helpful to me.
    I've been trying to decide between a DRZ400, 690 Enduro R, and street converted WR450F. You mentioned something like the WR450F may have been a little too much for you. Just to get an idea of how your experience might compare to mine on that bike, what other bikes have you ridden? Do you enjoy riding 2 strokes? I've got a YZ250 2-stroke which I love, I can't help but wonder if I would love the WR450F as a dual sport as well, despite all the drawbacks to the bike as you mentioned.

    • @HermitDaVlog
      @HermitDaVlog  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, if you like the YZ250 I definitely wouldn't discount the WR450F. Also, that was a 2008 and I bet the 2012s and newer are a different animal. A couple years on the WR250R was really my only experience when I shot that. My biggest gripe with the 450 was that it needed the oil changed every couple of rides, the valves checked every 2000 miles and getting to the carb meant removing the sub frame. All that work and because I'm not that good of a rider I couldn't ride it any better off road than the 250R and on road I don't think anyone would prefer it unless they just had to do wheelies down the highway every 5 minutes. Speaking of which be sure to check out +JakeTheGardenSnake and +revzoot . they both have supermoto WR450Fs and are always fun to watch.

    • @jaredco6930
      @jaredco6930 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Just read about how short the oil change intervals and how time consuming the valve adjustments on the WR450F are compared to bikes like the DRZ 400, WR250R. Those bikes seem like much much more practical alternatives.

  • @jaysealenduro5618

    for real the wrf is a enduro dirtbike and it is powerful on mountain riding

    • @HermitDaVlog
      @HermitDaVlog  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +jhonard tagalog Agreed. In my WR250R review I say I really like it as a dual sport I just wish it had more power, and I get lots of comments like, "Why don't you just put lights on a WR450F." People don't understand that the 250R is nothing like the 250F and 450F and they have different purposes that are really compromised when you try to use them for something else.

    • @HermitDaVlog
      @HermitDaVlog  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      amanoncrack I think so too, but if you look at the DRZ400 or the fact that the WR450F is using the 250 frame now it makes you really wonder why Yamaha can't bring us a WR450R.

    What year bike is this? That's the only thing I can't figure out from your video and it's not posted in the description. It appears to be before 2012 (when they added fuel injection) Also, I'm looking for MOSTLY off road riding so I would have a much different opinion.

  • @HugDeeznueces
    @HugDeeznueces 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    that sucks! that much maintenance!?? looks like the 250 is the way to go.

    • @HermitDaVlog
      @HermitDaVlog  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah. The thing is the modern trail bike is a detuned motorcross bike and for motorcross this is fine. A dual sport is made for commuting or long adventures so they're more durable but heavier. I miss the good old days when trail bikes had their own platform instead of being derived from motorcross.

    • @HermitDaVlog
      @HermitDaVlog  10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      In Colorado it just needed the stock head light, horn, working brake light, mirror, DOT tires and certificate of origination or title, but Colorado is a lot less up in people's shit than most other places.

    • @HermitDaVlog
      @HermitDaVlog  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nope, but that's that the manual says to do. Certainly not going to go 3K miles on an oil change like I do with the WR250R or DRZ400.

  • @briankeith757
    @briankeith757 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    is this a street legal bike and I hear the wr250r will be discontinued and the 450 will take it's place

    • @HermitDaVlog
      @HermitDaVlog  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep it's legal, but not from the factory. I've hear it's discontinued too, but I'll be surprised if they bring out a 450 that's factory street legal and doesn't need the valves checked for 27K miles.

  • @honey38baby

    why a WR when the YZ has more power? was it because it was easier to DS?

    • @HermitDaVlog
      @HermitDaVlog  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      honey38baby The WR is built for trail riding. The YZ is built for MX. I ride trails a lot and I have no desire to MX. If you put in the throttle stop screw for the YZ and cut the grey wire so the ignition is running the YZ mapping, I'm not sure if there is still a difference in power. Also more power isn't as important to me as usable power. For my style of riding I'm actually more capable on my WR250R. If I was racing and had the skills to charge things with high RPMs then the WR250F, WR450F, or either YZ would probably be better.

  • @nicbleu

    maybe the wr450 is not made for going fast and that s why it s not a dual sport

    • @HermitDaVlog
      @HermitDaVlog  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      nicbleu Or durability, or low maintenance, or intermediate riding... I took that bike out on some trails with the WR250R and three other guys who have motorcycles and all three preferred riding the WR250R over the WR450F. I was really expecting to find more situations where the 450F trumped the 250R, but the only thing I could find was advanced trails. You make a good point that it's not failing at doing the things it's meant to do, but I hope people watch this and realize if they want a good dual sport experience it's not about putting lights on a trail bike. You have to know both what you and a bike is really capable of doing.

    Yamaha would be smart to detune the 450 for dual sport. Then I would jump all over that! As it stands I think for the money the DR650 is the way to go. For me anyway.

    • @r1pperduck
      @r1pperduck 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      They did actually, it's a detuned yz450 with wide ratio gearing. But after being covered to dual sport, they are the most powerful, but the hardest to maintain apparently.

  • @ridingdeep8530
    @ridingdeep8530 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Haaaaahhh!!! Awesome review man. I own a dual-sport 2004 WR450F, you are correct, the 450F is a beast of a machine when cornered up in tight terrain. That being said, here in the sand and fairly open spaces of southern Utah (no eveRide did not send me - good dude though) the 450F can be a lot of fun. Like you said, the 450 on the freeway = stupid, stupid, stupid...

    • @HermitDaVlog
      @HermitDaVlog  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, dual sporting them seems to be pushing them a little out of their element. Until I was riding both the WR450F and the WR250R regularly and maintaining the WR450F regularly I didn't realize how vast the difference was. If I was going to have a trail only bike I think the WR450F is still a good choice and I think 2005 is a really good year as the steel frame is less rigid and gives MUCH easier access to the motor and carb.
