Max Giesinger is really popular in Germany, he came fourth in the Voice of Germany in 2012 and turned out to be the most successful artist afterwards. ( Along with Michael Schulte who came third). He wrote this song for his mother who was a single Mum and you were spot on with the meaning behind it. I've seen Max numerous times in concert and he's amazing. When I first heard the song, I was sitting in the car on my way to a job interview, crying my eyes out. My mother wasn't a single parent, but childcare was almost entirely her responsibility, and I grew up in a village with very traditional family dynamics at the time: The woman stays at home, the man goes to work. She wanted to work again, but couldn't get childcare, and the family didn't want to take over. She wanted to fulfill herself, but couldn't. She faced a lack of understanding in the village, my father was working a lot and didn't know a way out either, the situation drove my mother into addiction. When I was nine, she ran off with another guy after 22 years of marriage, I stayed with my father and both parents married other partners after two years (and have now been remarried for 25 years). She emigrated to Hungary for several years, contact broke off. She and her new husband overcame their addiction many years ago (which I didn't know), we found each other again when I was 24 years old. There were many misunderstandings, family disputes, a whole puzzle finally came together completely, and as awful as the situation was back then, as an adult, I can understand it to some extent. And it was then that I realized how much I have in common with her (I also inherited her free spirit, the big mouth, the sarcasm, and an unfortunately often disastrous stubbornness). :D We get along very well today. I know, it sounds a bit like a drama on public television in Germany that runs Sunday afternoon with a positive outcome, hehe.

This song is one of my favourites, as a single mom and struggling a lot. Its great to see you picked up on the theme even before the lyrics. Its a very touching song, not even in a sad tone, but simply touching, heartwarming maybe. It makes you maybe feel greatfull and understanding of your own mother / parents.

I remember listening to them in the car on our way to school, the horse stables, vacation or whatever. Those songs just always there. It's very melancholic to hear them. I cry while listening to them, especially "Fieber" from Die Toten Hosen. Because back then, life was worth living it. Now everything's fucked up. I am just really discovering your channel and I must say, I love how observant you are and how you really go deep into the lyrics as well. So many reactors just play the song, maybe say one or two sentences at the end and that's it. This is so much more interesting.

btw, from personal experience I would STRONGLY opt against walking barefoot in New York. Did it once, when I tried to get to Central Park with my new roller blades - completely incompetent and down a strong slope (I had not calculated for) from my street in Morningside Heights to the park. After crashing from wall to wall, I finally gave up, took the blades off and walked home to wash my feet which after walking only a few blocks back were black (and I had nightmares for weeks about how many dogs had pooped where I walked and how many people had thrown up where I walked…. A nightmare!!!!

Love the song. A great reminder to take the responsibility of being a parent a little lighter. If we are our authentic selves with our children and embrace them simply as a part of our lives, it will likely be easier to raise them and they'll be able to experience the world together with us. We don't need to be perfect, we just need to be there for them. However, I would think any parent out there knows the general feeling that it describes in the beginning. It's the burden of having a tiny, innocent and vulnerable human being 100% dependent on us. Kids, especially when very young, dictate every second of our day unless they are asleep. And while we likely love them to the moon and back, it is challenging to give up our previous freedom to such an extreme extent. It's easier said than done to create me-time as a parent and it gets even harder if we don't have any family/friends nearby or if we are even a single mom/dad. I can't even imagine how challenging that has to be as I am lucky to have an amazing partner. So, big shout-out to all parents out there. Don't forget to have fun! ❤

I think, this song is inspired by the song from 1991-song of the group Pur called "Wenn sie diesen Tango hört". Very emotional, too and the start of this group to be one of the most successful german groups for more than 2 decades.

I was born in ‘64, to a 22yo single mum. It was a scandal then. My mum was naive, my father an a-hole. I know she missed out on a LOT because she chose to give birth to me and face the judgement of society. My father remember that he was already married with a kid. My birth didn’t impact his rich life one little bit. But when she danced, I danced with her.

When I first heard the song, I was sitting in the car on my way to a job interview, crying my eyes out. My mother wasn't a single parent, but childcare was almost entirely her responsibility, and I grew up in a village with very traditional family dynamics at the time: The woman stays at home, the man goes to work. She wanted to work again, but couldn't get childcare, and the family didn't want to take over. She wanted to fulfill herself, but couldn't. She faced a lack of understanding in the village, my father was working a lot and didn't know a way out either, the situation drove my mother into addiction. When I was nine, she ran off with another guy after 22 years of marriage, I stayed with my father and both parents married other partners after two years (and have now been remarried for 25 years). She emigrated to Hungary for several years, contact broke off. She and her new husband overcame their addiction many years ago (which I didn't know), we found each other again when I was 24 years old. There were many misunderstandings, family disputes, a whole puzzle finally came together completely, and as awful as the situation was back then, as an adult, I can understand it to some extent. And it was then that I realized how much I have in common with her (I also inherited her free spirit, the big mouth, the sarcasm, and an unfortunately often disastrous stubbornness). :D We get along very well today. I know, it sounds a bit like a drama on public television in Germany that runs Sunday afternoon with a positive outcome, hehe.

This song is one of my favourites, as a single mom and struggling a lot. Its great to see you picked up on the theme even before the lyrics. Its a very touching song, not even in a sad tone, but simply touching, heartwarming maybe. It makes you maybe feel greatfull and understanding of your own mother / parents.

I remember listening to them in the car on our way to school, the horse stables, vacation or whatever. Those songs just always there. It's very melancholic to hear them. I cry while listening to them, especially "Fieber" from Die Toten Hosen. Because back then, life was worth living it. Now everything's fucked up. Would do anything to have a new first time listening to them.

btw, from personal experience I would STRONGLY opt against walking barefoot in New York. Did it once, when I tried to get to Central Park with my new roller blades - completely incompetent and down a strong slope (I had not calculated for) from my street in Morningside Heights to the park. After crashing from wall to wall, I finally gave up, took the blades off and walked home to wash my feet which after walking only a few blocks back were black (and I had nightmares for weeks about how many dogs had pooped where I walked and how many people had thrown up where I walked…. A nightmare!!!!

Love the song. A great reminder to take the responsibility of being a parent a little lighter. If we are our authentic selves with our children and embrace them simply as a part of our lives, it will likely be easier to raise them and they'll be able to experience the world together with us. We don't need to be perfect, we just need to be there for them.
However, I would think any parent out there knows the general feeling that it describes in the beginning. It's the burden of having a tiny, innocent and vulnerable human being 100% dependent on us. Kids, especially when very young, dictate every second of our day unless they are asleep. And while we likely love them to the moon and back, it is challenging to give up our previous freedom to such an extreme extent.
It's easier said than done to create me-time as a parent and it gets even harder if we don't have any family/friends nearby or if we are even a single mom/dad. I can't even imagine how challenging that has to be as I am lucky to have an amazing partner.
So, big shout-out to all parents out there. Don't forget to have fun! ❤

I think, this song is inspired by the song from 1991-song of the group Pur called "Wenn sie diesen Tango hört". Very emotional, too and the start of this group to be one of the most successful german groups for more than 2 decades.

It is not realy about not caring/forgetting there own live, it is more about having no time for it. A hint for that is the 50 hour week (german standard is 40 hours). That is strenthend by the wish to go on a date

I was born in ‘64, to a 22yo single mum. It was a scandal then. My mum was naive, my father an a-hole. I know she missed out on a LOT because she chose to give birth to me and face the judgement of society. My father remember that he was already married with a kid. My birth didn’t impact his rich life one little bit. But when she danced, I danced with her.

It's about single mothers. A hard life. In Germany and maybe in other places, beeing a single mom is such a tabu. Whatever you do, you are a Rabenmutter. You can't do anything right. You have no husband = it's your fault. Your kids are loud. Clearly no man in the house, telling them not to behave like that...... This list is never ending. So many singel mothers are poor, because of this situation. There is a lot to tell.
