If you wanted to go from Los Angeles Union Station to the San Diego Santa Fé Depot on the economy plan, take the Metrolink train from LA to Oceanside & transfer to the NCTD Coaster train to San Diego. Bring snacks with you from LA because the two commuter trains have no café food service. If you 0:14 want a better rail experience between LA & SD, take the Amtrak Surfliner Business Class. Take a window seat on the West facing side of the Superliner to get the best Ocean views. Get a West facing seat upstairs in the Superliner car for even better ocean views. The Amtrak Surfliner has café car service with a small bar service of mixed beverages. In Business Class, there is a snack box food service & cold canned beverages, included as part of your B-Class fare. The sunsets on the later afternoon Surfliner trains are quite beautiful in the summer months. Enjoy your rail trip!

Nice video, note, I think you meant Sorrento Valley @19:10, Simi Valley is on the northern LA end of the Pacific Surfliner route.

I would argue JUST LA loves their cars too much if there's not even light rail to dodger stadium!
While you can take a proper train to Anaheim stadium, San Diego has always had their light rail system running to both their pro baseball stadium (Petco Park) and the former site of their pro football stadium (now the site of SDSU/Snapdragon Stadium)
