Great interview. Brad seems like a really good, quality dude. You can also tell by his body language how hard it is to talk about Shannon's death; he was sitting back comfortably the entire time before the question was asked, then he leans forward, kind of closing himself off, and leaning away from the interviewer, and his right hand starts fidgeting on his left knee. I love hearing the band members give insight into Shannon that I've never heard before. Got a lot of that in this interview.
Thankx Brad you are the Real Deal !!!! You and BLIND MELON we're the MOST UNDERRATED BAND!!! SHANNON HOON holds a special place in your 💓 Heart!!! You are so talented keep up the Good Work you are one COOL dude!!!
Thanks for posting Darren. Blind Melon is the most under rated band ever! I'm a true melon head and i love the entire band, but since Shannon is no longer with us i am always looking to see new material of him. In this case just insight about him, but it is always sweet to pick up any and all new melon footage. Thank you Brad for sharing your thoughts and feelings on Shannon and Nico. Glad to see your still making music. I am for sure gonna check out your new material.
Graduated in 97 and was big into Tool, AIC, Soundgarden, etc. I never checked out Blind Melon because I assumed it was all like No Rain. A great song, but not really my style. I saw a TH-cam short of them live about 3 months ago and thought i needed to check them out. Hook, line, and sinker man. What a great band and transcendent talent in Shannon Hoon.
It's nice to hear him speak well of Shannon Hoon. There could be room for some bad feelings there, for opportunities lost, but he seems to have none. Also, every band needs that one person who is the 'star' of the show, and Shannon was definitely that. To sit back and appreciate it takes a lot of maturity, which you don't always find in bands, with everyone wanting the attention for themselves. It is a shame they didn't have more time together.
They were by far one of the most underrated bands from the 90s. People love chalking everything up to "No Rain." However, they often ignore the rest of the first album. Their second album was exceptional. It was genuinely different, quirky, odd, and of immense depth. Their last album was rough, but very good. One could just see the potential of the material had it evolved more naturally. And no, Blind Melon was no grunge. They get bunched with that movement and they didn't have any of the classic characteristics.
At the end where he says" i have different versions." It was like listening to blind melon live. Each time you saw them shannon may change lyrics or the way a song was delivered.
It would have been interesting to see where they went from Soup. What is the next album, after you’ve basically said goodbye. They were so young and so good. And then it was gone.
At about 29:25, how sad to hear him speculate about what might have been if Shannon had lived - I mean, how many others have pointlessly died from drugs. I particularly think of Hendrix, and the incredible solo career and records he would have made. Thing is, no one starts taking drugs and thinks they can't handle it, because, at first, it's just about having fun. Damn!
Until you lose your lead singer? Are you fucking serious bro?????? That's some bold shit I'm embarrassed for you God you are insensitive His son?????? God man you are a fucking jerk He was so patient love you brad 💜
"As an artist, you never know if you've made a difference". Oh, Brad, you did. And still do. Great interview!

J. Scott Elblein hi
From what I understand he was like the "dad" of the band and really like Shannon's voice of reason . It hit him the hardest when Shannon died .

When he talks about how much talent shannon had and would have gone on to do, I just want to hug that dude. He must think about that every day.
One of the most gifted song writers ever ! His voice was so unique and amazing as well .
