    I bought a Superhawk out of the junk yard at Clark AB in the Philippines. Was missing a few parts, so I took it downtown to a specialty shop and we made a chopper out of it. No big changes except for an extended front end and a lot of chrome. Loved riding it, but it took a lot of room to turn around. Wanted to bring it home, but sold it to a local guy that probably had the only chopper in the Philippines at the time.

    I have one just like it; put it in the shed 20 years ago when it was still running and it is still there! Wife wanted me to throw it out; maybe I should find a place to work on it and get it running. Thanks for the video.

    I have a CL77 305. I bought it not running, got it running but I think it has a bad valve guide as one cylinder smokes despite it have good compression. It has been sitting since. Got to get back at it someday.

    1965 Honda Superhawk was my first motorcycle. I bought it for $75. I had to take it to the local Honda shop to get it running. It seemed fast to me and it was nimble. I sold it before I left for the Army. I wish I had that little bike now. I remember the shift linkage being frame mounted and then going to the side of the engine, just as your bike has. Someone once told me to get rid of all that and just put a shifter on the engine. I never got around to it. It worked fine just as it was.

    Back in the mid-1960's, drag racer Dennis Manning fitted a Marshall-Nortec J75 supercharger to his Superhawk, allowing him to do quarter-mile passes in 13 seconds with a top speed of over 110 mph.

    • @danschmalle136
      @danschmalle136 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      For those searching it's Marshall-Nordec J75. They were used on MGTC's and TDs. Thanks so much for the reference, I plan to pick Dennis' brains about this next time I see him. progress-is-fine.blogspot.com/2014/02/supercharging-superhawk.html

    These bikes were already old when I was a kid in the early to mid 70s. I always thought they looked odd, as bikes had radically changed by then. I thought the tanks were put on backwards and it annoyed me. The rubber knee pads were unGodly. Now I think they are super cool and I heard the engines are solid and good.

    • @jseden
      @jseden 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yea these engines are great. I daily a rebel250 which has a pretty similar one and it's been totally reliable for the near 10k I've put on it. Always fires right up, even down in the 20s or 30s. Runs like the day I got it with 1500mi. CDI instead of points though.

    White, black, red are the three colors that I remember these bikes coming in. These general purpose Hondas of this era are the best bikes ever built. Would love to have a cl305 candy apple orange to run errands around town with. Why didn't you get rid of that abortion of a paint job that someone threw on there with grandmas lace?

    • @Amotorcyclenut

      I have a few dirty tricks for doing that, but the engine has to be intact. I just did one the other day and didn't video it but I should have. No guarantees in how good it will run or be, but it sure makes getting the top end off easier if they are not froze up. I'll have to video the next one.

      Squirt some light oil,WD or some such in the spark plug holes.Let it soak overnight..get on the crankshaft nut or clutch.Rock it.This only works if the cylinders are rusted a little.If the main bearings or wristpin are locked,pull the motor.
