- Rep. Glenn Grothman, R-Wis., on Thursday said he had no evidence of his claims of voting fraud regarding federal elections. Rep. Grothman was speaking about the Donald Trump-backed legislation requiring that people show proof of citizenship to register to vote.

It’s like when Trump says “people are saying”, which actually means he is saying. Or when he says “people just learned blah blah blah” means he just learned it.
The natural follow up question should have been, "And exactly how do you know?" If a person earning a salary as a journalist, doesn't follow a statement like that, with a probing follow up question, they are taking a salary under false pretences. The same if they allow someone to waffle and not answer a question.

This is always the reasoning of the maga republicans- Biden impeachment even without evidence, pet eating rumor without evidence, and now this voting fraud claims without evidence. Are these republican house representatives stupid or they just don't care, they only care for political upmanship. Furthermore, why this shutdown threat again? The American people are paying a lot of taxes both federal and state taxes but why do these elected representatives, especially the republicans, let the people suffer thru this govt. shutdown?

I don’t get it- when I go to vote, they check my name on a preexisting list, which comes from their list of registered voters- which, when the form is filled out by me, I have to include proof of citizenship. So, what’s the problem?
And, if I was a first time voter going to the polls, I would have to show two forms of ID when I got there, to verify my identity.
There is no end to their madness.
The problem is you are able to vote. The GOP doesn't want people who vote for the "wrong candidate" to be able to vote.

In most European countries you have to register, and then on the day bring an id card to prove your indentity. Surely that is the case in the USA as otherwise I could say I was someone else and vote for them?

Why doesn't the US institute automatic voter registration at age 18? Every other western-style country seems to be able to manage this.

I've learned one thing; never take what a MAGA says at face value.
It depends on the state though, some states let you cast a provisional ballot if you can't show ID at the time of voting.
Where you live? We have voter registration cards we use to vote. No id required. Personally I think requiring an id is dumb. It’s like having security at a dentist office. You don’t need it. Its only purpose is to make voting harder. We already have such low turn out. Why make it harder? I’ll answer. Because republicans believe requiring an id improves their odds of winning. Has nothing to do with election security.

ID doesn’t prove citizenship on its own, but it can be tracked back to what documents were provided to the DMV if there was question later.

Where I live I have to REGESTER to vote I cannot just show up on voting day and walk in and vote I have to prove my eligibility to vote beforehand.

Where I live people are automatically registered when they apply for a driver’s license or ID. Ballots are sent in the mail.

I live in Canada and register to vote by checking a box when I do my income tax. I then get a voter card in the mail a bit before the election, which I take to the polls where I'm asked for ID. Works well!

As the American wife of a LEGAL, pink card holding alien…and someone who served well over 10 YEARS as an election judge…NO ONE, without a government issued voter registration card ( only issued to those who prove citizenship and residence) and another form of legal residence ID, can vote. There are MULTIPLE fail-safe steps that are taken during voting that protect the system, including the affidavit for voting that shows the legal residence that MUST MATCH the ID presented. And the captured signature on that affidavit MUST match the one on the ID AND the signature signed AT THE MOMENT OF VOTING. Additionally, equal numbers of TRAINED registered Republicans and Democrats sit as election judges as the voters present ID, etc in a MULTIPLE STEP process to obtain a ballot to vote. Pretty effing hard to get past all of that.

Lets see... You have to register to vote, and its been awhile, but i believe inhad to have a state issue id to do so, where i had to prove i was a US citizen. And if i vote in person, i generally am asked to show id or verify information. I think in order to run for office, one should have to pass a government class, civics, and maybe ethics class as well as a background check. Some of these yahoos are not fit to care for kids, work in a bank or run a register but there they are, dictating our lives.

I can remember having to show my voter ID twice. The second time was the gal in charge insisting I was not old enough to vote. She scolded my then husband for trying to let one his kids vote.
They check that voter ID here. They caught two Trump voters.
