Great video clip. As an Atlantic Canadian, for over fifteen years I’ve been perennially pilgrimaging to The Dragon. Aside from the pavement, it’s the people and the “tales” around the fire pit, more that the Tail itself, that draws me back. The one thing I’ve learned? Humility trumps hubris and smooth is better than fast.
I dont think there has been a single overnight I have spent at the Firepit there where The Canadians were not well represented. Great to see so many neighbors there consistently.
AND, thanks so much from us 4 wheelers going much faster for pulling over. I've driven the Dragon 20 time or so and was constantly blocked by slow moving Harleys who refused to yield. AND, I have pulled over several times for faster traffic, mostly fast Sport Bikes. Courtesy and respect makes everyone's experience more worthwhile.
It's been about 15 yrs. since I rode the Tail of the Dragon. I rode all the way through, went to get something to eat, and rode back. When I got back, I swore I would never ride it again. I rode it on an 1984 H.D. Lowrider. It was beautiful scenery, but if you looked at it, you stood a good chance of becoming part of it. I came upon 3 wrecks and witnessed 2 more. I also got the crap scared out of me twice. Both times, I was going about 20 mph around a blind curve and had a crotchrocket come up behind me doing 60 mph or better. I had been riding for over 40 yrs. then and I had never in my life come across so many inconsiderate and down right hazardous riders. From this video, it looks as though things have changed considerably. But I'm still not going back. The Cherohala Skyway, however, is fantastic.
That was a long intro, but otherwise, Nice! Most of the vids I’ve seen from the Dragon were crash vids, so this is a refreshing change- people who can ride. Riding on a road like that somehow reminds me of alpine skiing.
First video of yours I came across and what a breath of fresh air, excellent compilation of footage, music and not a word said. I too have a channel but a complete amateur next to yours. I love the simplicity and humility you convey without those very words I mentioned. Good show 👏🏽
Been there twice in last 2 Year's. Absolutely amazing. If ya love riding or driving this should definitely be on your bucket list.. the people are so friendly and the country side is so nice. Gonna make it a yearly trip from western New York. Great video and enjoy your time out there😁
Coming back from the dragon and watching this - this is the best tail video I've seen. I especially want to point out her turns! she's tucked in so tight to that bike, what EXCELLENT form!
Just came across your channel. Love it!!! Keep making beautiful memories please. You 2 are an inspiration and so very lucky to have each other. Stay safe.
I got back into riding last year after being off a motorcycle since 1985. Getting the feel back and i would love to take this ride. As well as visit , wheels Throuh Time.,.
Rode this before any knew about it on my XS650. There are so many great roads in the Blue Ridge. Always the show here at Deals Gap though. Thanks for the vid.
@@timnevitt2993 went on a Tuesday early October and it was perfect had a great run. Your right talking to people there. Stay clear of Thursday through the weekends. Stay away from the holiday weekends and the hight summer months and you will have a great experience 😀 👍
I used to live 30 minutes south of the Dragon, but I retired to Thailand. What do you call a 375 mile long loop run with almost 2000 curves and lions, tigers, bears, and elephants? It is called the Mae Hong Son loop, a bucket list quality run. ( There are endless TH-cam videos about it. Some of them are mine.)
Good vid, looks like you edited a couple or more runs, its nice when you can run a road multiple times and work the lines. Nice to see courteous people sharing the road! Looks like you are having fun.
If you like the TOTD, you'll like "The Snake" even better! It's right here in northeastern Tennessee and into Virginia. 489 curves, 3 mountains, 1 valley...113 miles of twisties.
Nice!!, what a beautiful video portraying the lifestyle of us riders. I enjoy riding here every year. That being said, I've seen plenty of Knights come to slay the Dragon but "This ain't no place for a hero." Perfect!!!!!
I ridding the Tail yet. I did the back of the dragon and put out a video recently showing the entire 32 miles. Hope to get to ride the Tail of the Dragon one day soon.👍👊🇺🇸
This was a really good video, excellent composition, very engaging. I've ridden The Dragon dozens of times but I've never stayed overnight at Deals Gap, it was so empty in the morning! 😎
I live10 minutes away in Maryville. After ???? 50 times at least you get to know every inch of the turns.. Always have to respect it though. More than once I’ve had one of those uh oh !! Turns that scare the heck out of me.
Great Video, Never got to see what bikes you were riding. I suppose I could guess it's a Honda Hawk I know nothing more than the name and that it's a Honda street bike. Glad the Harleys and 4 wheelers sight seeing didn't block you too much. You both did a great job at staying in your own lane, but that does not mean that some one is not going come into your lane and wipe you out.
For those who are unaware. This is a public road used by many to commute back and forth to work. Due to the number of vacationers in the area, there are many who are unaware and just taking it to get over to Tenn from NC and vise versa as you don't have too many other options. Weekends are the worse and the amount of traffic is unbearable at times.
Very well rounded video of the Dragon experience. I really like how you included a lot of the "etiquette" following. Only thing I would have liked to see added was a clip of the Chilhowee Lake side. Nice job though guys!!
Very cool, y'all look real smooth, bikes work well there. Not a fan of that road myself, didn't really enjoy it when I rode it a few years ago, actually looks more inviting in this video than I recall it being. Loved the Cherohala Skyway though, and really like the Back of the Dragon and Snake, had a great ride on the Rattler (though I don't recall seeing the sign it has now). Might have to try again some time, would be interesting to get the old Yamaha down that way and see how it does.
Another great video. Have you two ever ridden 226A the Diamondback, to or from Little Switzerland, NC? If not I highly recommend it. A lot less traffic :)
The dragon is fun when nobody is on it. On weekends, its usually a dumpster fire. Car clubs, a gazillion Harley guys that don't know how to turn and end up sideways in the oncoming lane, etc... But when there isn't much traffic, its a fun road, although the roads around it, I think are actually better.
There really are better roads up there. But you have not lived till you run the Dragon on say, Easter Weekend or in November. I lived two hours from there for years, and once you learn WHEN to go, you can have a lot more fun.
It's a day. I too am about 90+ minutes away in adjacent mountains. A lighter and nimble bike like a Hawk or other CB makes it more pleasant. The speeds are slow, unless wou want to pay the $250 toll from the TSP and sheriff, so race bikes are not going to their edge. Big cruisers don't get great scenery like they do on the adjacent roads. A midsized classic bike or similar modern upright is about perfect for the road itself.

Just found this channel, one of the best Dragon vids I've watched. Lots of skill and respect by other drivers for faster vehicles. Love it.
Shaking some post holiday winter blues here this morning. Your soundtrack selection is always emotionally attached to the mood of the video.
