MARCH 4, 2023: Happy Birthday, Chris. Wishing you the best in happiness, health and fortune. You have our unwavering loyalty, love, respect and appreciation. Please continue to grace us with your music. God Bless you always!
One of the enduring mysteries of life is why Chris Rea has never been appreciated in the U.S. the way he has been for decades in Europe. He is a genuine musical treasure. And I shall always be grateful that he chose to write a song about my home state (Texas, that is, not Hell :)
so underrated as a musician singer & song writer. Wasnt CR like a reluctant superstar. All he wanted to do was play music. i think not being an ego driven money maker with everything being about me me me he just didnt fit the American mould. His voice and guitar playing just transports me to a place of joyful peace.
As a slide player, I think Chris is so down to earth he doesn't realise how good he actually is. Add in to the mix his health problems that would've stop 99% of people even playing at all, the man is a total Blues legend. The great pity is he's only appreciated as one by too few people. God bless Chris Rea.
Thanks to the crappy radio, DJ's with tunnel vision who focus on the same music over and over again, and unwillingness for the general public to branch out in terms of musical taste, this talented and amazing musician has remained in obscurity since the 1970's.
@@GeorgeSawtooth Chris Rea will always be recognized by the well-educated, intelligent and independent citizens around all of the world, as one of the best musicians ever!
You can't compare anyone with Chris, He is a one off unique talent, We have a lot to thank him for. No body gives performances that can in any way be compared to him.
To all the people complaining about Chris not saying hello or playing a song they wanted to hear? Piss off wimps. Chris is a true guitar hero and a living legend. I have been lucky enough to see him live numerous times. I attended one of his 2014 tour concerts and he was phenomenal as always. He plays his backside off to the point where in one concert of the 2014 tour he collapsed on stage and was rushed to the hospital. If that does not prove the man gives it his all every time despite his ill health, nothing will. Most musicians would have retired after suffering the health complications Chris is so diligently fighting against. Be thankful Chris is still playing live and making great music you ungrateful sods. There are plenty of true fans who would have loved to take your seats and actually enjoyed the concert. Unfortunately tickets were wasted on the likes of you. Next time do all true fans a favour and bugger off!
Well said Stratman...! I knew from the 1st day I heard Chris, he would be on top of my list. I'd love to see him but he never comes to SF. His music is real deep...
the awesome Chris Rea, unfortunately, highly underrated, his voice is the most original and fantastic , the tone of his voice, is unreal, and obviously he still has it. His compositions are awesome, and he is a very good guitar player. He reminds me of Boz Scaggs, they both have "different " voices & music per mainstream, and they both play guitar. I would love to see them together on stage. Keep doing it Chris.
+Mike Parsons Mike, that's a brilliant idea. I've never seen Rea live, but did have the privilege of seeing Scaggs perform in Dallas a very long time ago. Both guys are consummate professionals who bring something unique and inspirational when they play. Pairing them on the same stage would be incredible.
Absolutely brilliant for a man with pancreatic cancer (even though he has had his pancreas removed, he still has major problems with the bile duct and his diabetes, which means he has to take 34 pills and 7 injections daily), thus due to all this we NO longer get any ENCORES anymore and only 50 minute sessions as his body is failing him, but his voice is ideal for his type of music and he can still sling a guitar with the best of them all; I am really glad that he didn't do extensive tours of the U.S. of A. as it would have completely drained all the life out of him, they can all buy any one of his albums, compilations or DVD's and there are many of them; I would listen to him all day if I could afford the time.
A couple of interesting things I have noticed whilst listening to and watching this concert is his voice and how it has "matured" into his songs and style of songs that he writes, it is almost as though he has reached absolute perfection for all he does vocally; secondly is the way he treat his guitars, the "Italia" Maranello Classic looks as good today as when he first got it from the workshop, whereas his beat up ol' Red Fender Stratocaster has more dings and tape on it than the last time I saw it, luckily the Fender can withstand the abuse where as the "Italian Job" is a touch more sensitive and that certainly tells when it's in his hands, the notes he is able to draw for the "Italia" are simply amazing, God (The God of your choice) Bless you Chris Rea, may your life continue to be a joy to you and your family as much as it is to all of your followers of outstanding music.
I am from Texas....I discovered this man a few years ago....I know he is very ill.....He is Pure Awesome...I never get tired of his song called "Texas"..That is how I discovered him....Pure Talent...
Nothing fancy.... just pure freaking live music.... Rea is a Master... and apparently he can sing and chew gum at the same time.... multitask or what... wow !!!!
+Marty Leclerc Guess the gum is to overcome a dry mouth condition. The drugs he's on related to his illnesses have some harsh side effects. My wife is type2 diabetic and on dialysis..the cure is tough.
ahhh...okay..well that makes sense ....hope all turns out okay with your wife Rick ..I hear ya mate... my darling has MS and it can be tough at times... God bless
Chris has not only one answer for the question - what is rock -he has hundreds of it. His play has so many fascets. He is a protagonist of rock - his guitar play is always swinging, sometimes hard, sometimes tender he is a master
I never get tired of listening to this man, his mastery of that Fender is amazing. Along with Mark Knopfler, Sting, Peter Gabriel and a handful of other artistes, they make this world a better place. The trouble is, when they have gone, they have gone. There is no one out there that can take their places.
Yes he is good on that beaten up old RED Fender and the other Fenders that he has a liking to, but my preference is when he pulls out that Maranello "Italia" Classic guitar and really hits the right chords perfectly; rather talented, what with his song-writing, guitar and banjo playing (amongst a few other instruments he has mastered that weren't used in this concert). Wake up every morning to my "OWN" time with Chris on the stereo with kick-ass 'phones, so as not to wake the family and thus I am in a great mood to start the day, what more could I want.
This man is a treasure to us all .. we should cherish this artist .. he has lived what he sings and plays .. he earned every painful bloody note .. if he does not suit you, then please just quietly leave .. the rest of us are too busy to listen right now ..
Went to see Chris Rea at the Apollo, Manchester on Monday night. Had a brilliant night, musically superb. OK so he doesn't banter with the audience - I don't care. It was an absolute privilege to be there to hear him play. Not many of the 'old school' rockers can still sing and play like Chris.
"From where we stand determines what we see" circa 1983. What a powerhouse performance. I cannot understand what people are complaining about. I found absolutely everything about the performance engaging, the music said it all. I don't go to concerts to hear about the type of loo paper the artist uses. I want to hear the music. At the end of the day you have spent one hour in the company of a maestro.

Chris Rea is one of the greatest things to come out of Middlesbrough the steel capital of the UK. Cant believe the Montreax Festival 2014 has only had 180k hits on U tube come on you fans get a load of this its fantstic John in Durham
Amazing absolute!!! In a time when the best are are the best and he gives his best, the it factor is fact Chris Rea is an entertainer and still gives and gives Amazing talent and just keeps giving.Gotta see it to believe it. Whoever put this to air and screen THANK Y0U!!
Great set. Sadly ,we in the US have been made ignorant to his great talent (save ONE radio popular song almost 40 years ago). He has always had that wonderful old smoky voice. Smooth as silk and always classy.
By all means, I've got massive selections of quality music from amazing artists in vinyl LP's, CD's & data...and Chris respectfully is absolutely in my top favourite rated list
Absolutely outstanding, every song is sung with such soul and emotion which simply compliments his incredible guitar playing. I went to see him at Newcastle several years ago and would love the chance to see him again, a true master of his art.
Spot on Stratman its only his music that keeps him going , to me chris`s guitar tone , slide skill , and brilliant songwriting is the benchmark for all other musicians of his ilk ! After all I've never met Picasso or seen him painting live on stage , but he was a great painter !!!
fredo gumbo Any ex Allman brothers band member is OK with me , respect ! But for my elderly blues ear , Chris is great , and his skill , fame and above all else his experience and massive back catalogue speaks for itself . Not putting Derek Trucks down at all , just Chris's music floats my boat !
fredo gumbo Not a virtuoso ? I'm sure there's 35 million plus , album owners and countless guitarists who picked up a guitar because they wanted to play like him , who would strongly disagree with you on that comment. Not saying he's the best , but in my opinion he is ONE of the best in the World . Just check out his back catalogue , he is one of the most diverse blues axemen i've ever heard .
MARCH 4, 2023: Happy Birthday, Chris. Wishing you

+ericynot I was thinking the same thing. Chris puts most American artists to shame.
I live in Music City USA ....and I see what we are producing here....and it does not compare. I am just being honest.

Just discovered Chris. I'm hooked and now a fan. Doesn't look like he keeps up with his Facebook.

His music is so actual.😊😅😮😢😂❤
Un grand Monsieur
By all means, I've got massive selections of quality music from amazing artists in vinyl LP's, CD's & data...and Chris respectfully is absolutely in my top favourite rated list
Absolutely outstanding, every song is sung with such soul and emotion which simply compliments his incredible guitar playing.
I went to see him at Newcastle several years ago and would love the chance to see him again, a true master of his art.
What a geezer!

+Rick Davis Why the idiot tag mate? In the UK a geezer is a compliment to a guy who is talented and Chris Rea has gallons of it!
I shall retract...here it means an over the hill, way too old to be of any use old man. My apologizes.
+Rick Davis The perils of translation!😊
Yes indeed, thanks for accepting my apology...cheers.
Chris Rea is a perfect artist .
I love his voice.
The magic voice.
Spot on Stratman its only his music that keeps him going , to me chris`s guitar tone , slide skill , and brilliant songwriting is the benchmark for all other musicians of his ilk ! After all I've never met Picasso or seen him painting live on stage , but he was a great painter !!!
If you want to hear guitar tone and slide playing, Derek Trucks is your man
fredo gumbo Any ex Allman brothers band member is OK with me , respect ! But for my elderly blues ear , Chris is great , and his skill , fame and above all else his experience and massive back catalogue speaks for itself . Not putting Derek Trucks down at all , just Chris's music floats my boat !
Jack Russell He's better than i expected. Not a virtuouso but good all the same.
fredo gumbo Not a virtuoso ? I'm sure there's 35 million plus , album owners and countless guitarists who picked up a guitar because they wanted to play like him , who would strongly disagree with you on that comment. Not saying he's the best , but in my opinion he is ONE of the best in the World . Just check out his back catalogue , he is one of the most diverse blues axemen i've ever heard .
Jack Russell Yeah, i get what you're saying but next to blues virtuousos like Joe Bonamassa and Derek Trucks, to name but 2, he relatively ordinary
