Brad Fiedel is vastly underrated and overcooked. With a few simple notes, he captures a tidal wave of emotions. This piece is so perfect. I was 21 when Terminator was released. Now, at age 60, watching the world turn and burn, we seem inexorably drawn to the "fate" no one wants. COVID took so many friends, those of us who survived that are being divided by all the political BS. The Terminator theme and this ambient score facilitates my contemplation and memories. Of the world as it was in 84 as I embarked on this journey called life. Of the world in 91, with my new born son, now 34, and of the life I thought I would have, and the acceptance of the harsh reality of the one I do. I can turn on any news channel and mute it, playing this as I view the images, and it all fits beautifully together, in a nightmarish manner. In a way, arent we all as the character AS portrays? Aren't we all forced to be a Cyberdyne Systems Model 101? We understand that the world is out there. It can't be reasoned with, it can't be bargained with...it doesn't feel pity, remorse or fear... and it absolutely will not stop. Ever. We are only five years from the time of 2029. When I was 21, the opening of Terminator seemed so far away, and back then, a fictional story point. Now? With AI, automation replacing the teenagers at McDonalds, military drones and the coldness of the human heart, I wonder if we will make it? Janes Cameron was more a prophet than he could possibly know, and Brad the composer for humanitys eulogy.
It's debatable whether he was some kind of prophet or maybe just had an access to "well informed sources"... but that's a whole another story. Your comment proves the great value of this type of music.
You hit the Nail on the Head.... James "cameraman " Cameron .... He was no Prophet.. He is a part of that club from the other story for another time... The World is a Stage... We know what's coming... "There is no Fate, but what WE Make..." #truth What's that spy movie with indigenous blue ppl called..?? Same director of film... He also directed "aliens" .. think about it...
Now this... this the real Terminator. Somber, cold and bleak. I miss the atmosphere of the older movies, and this haunting music right here captures why I love the original so much. Thank you for this.
