    Good advice. As we age our circulation is not quite as good as when we were younger. Sitting in a canoe or kayak for hours without getting out is an activity that definitely restricts blood flow in the lower extremities. I've learned that some basic exercises for both upper and lower body just before you start paddling will help when you do try to stand up again. I've spent 13 hours in my canoe without getting out and found that I could hardly walk at the end of the day. If I do some basic exercises beforehand it really helps later in addition to the benefits of also being a warm up.

      That's exactly it Rob, but start small, aim for twice per week and then grow from there. As you get more familiar with them you will see how quick and easy they are to do. And it gives you a few minutes to contemplate your paddle before you hit the surf!
