I’m born in Vancouver Canada and my mom really only spoke mandarin to me. But she moved back to Taiwan and I don’t speak it so much anymore and basically lack vocabulary and grammar. Your podcast has been really fun to listen to so far, just found you today.

I saw a comment asking about Taiwanese, so I thought I would briefly explain it here. Most Taiwanese people's native languages are Taiwanese, Hakka, or indigenous languages (there are at least 16 indigenous languages), and later also Mandarin, and languages spoken by new immigrants (such as Vietnamese). If you want to know more, I talked more about Taiwanese in EP 49, and for more about Taiwan's history, listen to EP 90.
