  • Watch The Suzanne Farrell Ballet rehearse the 2nd movement from Balanchine's Gounod Symphony during World Ballet Day 2016. A muse of George Balanchine, Farrell resurrected this piece which hadn't been performed by a professional company in more than 20 years.

Suzanne Farrell is a wonderful teacher. She catches all the nuances. She has great musicality. The score for this ballet is beautiful.

Truly, I agree completely- everything she said made such a difference even the small step backs and lunges...it made it all the more cohesive and passionate. I loved the “look after her, not for her.” Gorgeous. And effective.

Exquisite dancing. I could watch this all day. And for a Muse, Farrell is so natural and unaffected. A lot of love going on.

Still giving all of her effort to pass on the cherished art of ballet and art of Balanchine. Suzanne Farrell is a national treausure, and a world-wide one. She speaks so beautifully in interview. She so painstakingly guides the dancers.
The female dancer has very, very pretty technique but she leaves me unaffected. It would be so great if she could employ more sweep or emotion in her dancing. I felt she wasnt totally getting it or taking in what Ms. Farrell was trying to tell her. She seemed a little oblivious at times. The male dancer was very good from the little bit that he did. He did lovely and strong partnering and was so tuned in and he has a beautiful physique, strong and delineated and a refined carriage. The Gounod Symphony performance should have been taped. People will still go to the theater live. But these performances need too be documented in full from beginning to end and preserved. A deep thank you to Ms. Farrell for all that you have done for ballet and for Balanchine. Your autobiography is one of my favorite books and i go to it many times just for inspiration. Thank you for all of your great and ceaseless efforts

As for the dancers, this is a coaching, not a performance. They are listening to her and trying to incorporate her teaching, so of course they aren’t projecting emotion as much as they might.

It's such a mystery and a shame why Peter Martin's fired her and why shes ignored by the board of NYCB to impart to the company.

Watching her teach is a balm to the soul - so much knowledge and passion. But she will never return to the City Ballet. They've moved on, in a different direction. I think she can do more outside the cathedral.
