  • I leave Bsharri before the snow arrives, and I set off for an adventurous ride across the Lebanese mountains, to Baalbek and the Beqaa valley. On the way, I ride across wonderful landscapes, I find many natural wonders, and also a hospitable man who allows me to pitch my tent in his garden.

    I was there in 2005 as a 16 year old. I remember standing by the main roads, watching the Syrian army retreat back to Syria after spending more than 3 decades in Lebanon.

      Wow... I can imagine your emotion when you were watching it ! What thrilling moment to see your country free again.

      It certainly was. Something I’d remember for the rest of my life. I ran into the withdrawal of Syrian forces all over Lebanon. I was happy for the Lebanese. So much optimism back then.
      It isn’t my country. I’m Emirati from Abu Dhabi. 🇦🇪 🫡✌️

    What you saw from the distance is the eastern Mount of Lebanon which is not far from the Syrian borders.

    Above certain elevations, trees just can't grow but the cedars of Lebanon.

  • @raymollyraymolly722
    @raymollyraymolly722 ปีที่แล้ว

    At a certain time in history, this area was covered in cedar trees. The Phoenicians of Lebanon used to build their ships, and Egyptians made paper and other civilisations like the Romans and the Turks exploited the natural treasure for trade. In modern history, the cedar trees continued to get exploited. During World war I, British soldiers significantly cut down the tree population by exploiting it for the railroad.

    Thank you Yves. Beautiful video. More Azub questions 🤓 Did your Rohloff come with electronic shifting? If so, how do you like it? Any issues?

      Thank you Carl. And no, I don't have electronic shifting on my Rohloff, so I don't know about that.

    At time interval 22.30- " You will never meet a more wretched hive of scum and villainy" than the beqaa valley. (star wars quote :)
