    I wouldn't mind having a look and a scratch through that waste dirt dump. Mostly because you never know, could be a few left behind pretties.

      I would buy from these folks on principle! Rough or cut! They are busting their asses to bring it out, and I would rather help a small timer that needs the cash than a big company.

    I like the rock, the rough opal, not rubbed, not cut, not polished, just the raw rock that has opal in it. Not knowing anything much about opal mining, it's kind of hard to describe. When you mine and find a rock or a seam and take it out, a pound or two of rock with ironstone and sand all around the opal: that shows the natural state, the geology of it. I like that (and I don't care much for the gems). I just bought a one pound rock that has what I think is a beautiful opal "face", with all kinds of imperfections in it, but that's the geology of the formation, right there! It may be of little or no value for gems and jewelry, but honestly, I think the reddish ironstone and whitish sand are the perfect complement, the perfect offset to the color of the opal. Millions of years in the making, as it were, in my hand! (I hate to see someone take a beautiful two pound rock, saw it, and grind it down to a single gram. Maybe I just have no taste?)

      I'd give you $600 for that batch just as it is. Don't tumble it in a washer, don't slice it with a saw, don't rub it. Wish it had more ironstone. I can see the history of it, right there, the marvel and mystery of it.

    Hi Can you put the link of the selling page on. As I have looked up on the Hobbyist page but cannot find you. I am in the UK and have looked up Australian opal sellers, but cannot find you on the pages I have looked on.

    They make it dramatic for the show. Like these people are in dire straights. But the reality is, that was probably just from going down in the mine that one time. $400 from one trip.... not bad at all.

      @@INTJ82 I think he's talking about a different business. you know, an illegal one which can yield even more profits if you do it "right".
      some people don't calculate the immense risk it poses to them and their freedom into the equation, and thus are thinking it's a good way of income. Depending on where you live it might actually be like this, but with his last name I doubt he lives in one of these countries.

    Need to figure out/invent a way to process this rock underground. Would solve so much and then you cld backfill prior mined areas. Where thr is Will thr is a Way!

    • @covodex516
      @covodex516 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Im not sure that would be worth the effort. In the mines shafts they're currently working in, any machinery capable of processing enough material would need to be disassembled, hoisted down and reassembled inside the mine. And after they're done they would need to do the same all over again. Takes loads of time and effort. The only really efficient way of doing it would be to open up the mine completely, digging away all the roof so the machinery can just be driven down. But then again, thats weeks of digging without even starting to process some potential material. For an operation of their size, it's just not feasible I believe.
      The most efficient way for a big mining corporation would be to just open the whole area up and to also sluce the material which doesn't contain opal for fine gold and other valuables.

      @@covodex516 Maybe true. If I was there I guarantee I'd come up with some easier method. That's my specialty, inventing and solving issues. Also, work at night when its cooler, lol. I live in Phx, AZ and I'm always shocked that few laborious type jobs dont work at night when its 85/90F and not 117F.

      @@summanus3696 oh yeah fully agree, thats something I also wondered the entire time - why the hell doesn't any one of them get the idea to just come at night?! people are literally dying in this heat, guess a fucked up sleeping cycle is better than that... seems to be a pretty obvious solution imho, but who knows, maybe there is a good reason behind them not doing that which we just don't know about.

I'm sure sm blokes work nights? Like I said, if I was there I wldnt stand for half the crap sm these guys put up with. I'd solve the problem/issue to make my life easier lol.
