One of my favorite songs, here is the story behind the lyrics: Marcia Lynn Moretto, born July 18, 1946 in Illinois, USA and died May 21, 1983 in Paris, France,[1] was a dancer, choreographer and director.
She worked with Armando Llamas and also taught dance in Sartrouville in the 1970s. Her students included Catherine Ringer and Fred Chichin, the duo of Les Rita Mitsouko. Their song "Marcia Baila" is a tribute to Marcia Moretto.
She died in 1983 at the age of 36 of a fast-moving breast cancer.

Thank you Judeo! This song is very popular in France. Even if the video looks fun and crazy, this song is about death. This is a tribute to their dance teacher, Marcia Moretto, who died from cancer.

@@vibewithjudeo The Rita Mitsouko were masters at doing very danceable songs with very bitter lyrics. Famously they also did Le Petit Train which was an absolute bop... about Catherine's father' s deportation to the concentration camp in WWII.

It's after the viewing of this video clip that Madonna asked to Jean-Paul Gauthier (very famous French fashion designer) to confection to her the same cone-shaped bustier like the one worn by Catherine Ringer (the singer). She's fan of the Rita.

The song is about the Argentinian dancer Marcia Moretto who died of breast cancer in the 80s who participated in the tour of the group Rita Misouko, and to clarify she was a dancer, choreographer and also the dance teacher of Catherine Ringer
except that Rita Misouko is a completely offbeat group, a universe that is not attached to anything. It's certain that this may surprise you, but when you look closely you're not necessarily looking for what you can find on the street corner. The Rita Mitsouko who have had a very good career in France , Japan an other country respond to those looking for a little diversity and astonishment.
First time I heard this song and saw the music video in 1984 when I was 18, I thought WTF. Third time it was "WTF this is awesome!". Now I'm 55 and owns several of their albums.

i saw her recently as a guest star for shaka ponk on an outdoor concert(she is 53 years old now) she was without micro singing loudlier than the all rockband

rita mitsouko was a strange band even for us french peoples but it was a successfull band i will call their style "psychedelic rock" catherine ringer ( singer) had a hot but strange voice and the musician fred chichin was the " support" ( yes it's only a band of 2 peoples one for the music and one singer) but well they too had "strange texts but mostly with a somber theme you could said it was a "tricky band" a band very liked to dance happyly on their uplifting musics but went you read the texts you go "WTF it's this somber"!

mmm pas très sympa pour la scène Française actuelle qu'apparemment vous ignorez. Pour autant, ça ne veut pas dire qu'elle est plus mauvaise. Le "c'était mieux avant..." a fait long feu. ;)
Il y a maintenant beaucoup d'artistes français qui chantent en Anglais et qu'on ne sait même pas qu'ils sont Français.
Ils y sont souvent malheureusement contraints à cause de l'hermétisme du marché anglo-saxon.
De plus, avec YT et ses si nombreuses propositions quotidiennes (30 000 heures de vidéos chaque heure !!!) dont un bon tiers est de la musique, il est bien plus compliqué (et en même temps plus facile si la chance leur sourit, car les réseaux sociaux permettent aux artistes de s'auto-produire bien plus aisément qu'avant) de se faire remarquer aujourd'hui par le plus grand nombre qu'à l'époque des chanteurs que vous citez.
La radio et la télé s'imposaient à nous comme principaux canaux de la culture, et de fait, nous imposaient un panel de chanteurs bien moins variés que ce qu'on peut trouver aujourd'hui et de tant de façons. Mais encore faut-il les chercher.

Hey Jude, nice reaction! I like that you enjoyed this French music jewel and national heritage of France, the Rita Mitsouko. Trivia: she was a while in the porn industry, dances very well, and her partner in the band was also her partner in real life. Unfortunately, he died and her heart (she has a great one!) was broken… I suggest a mesmerizing song by them call Le Petit Train; it has a great rhythm and visuals, an Indian touch, but once again talks about a horrific topic related to trains at war and her grandfather, I believe. Not a word more, hope you had enough teasing.

Le petit train uses vintage style Bollywood visuals but talks about the Holocaust and the death train , but the opening line" le p'tit train, s'en va dans la montagne..." Refers to a famous French song often sung to kids. I'm guessing her grandpa was Jewish.
