    Watching you guys enjoy that melon made me wish I'd gotten some on my trip to Hokkaido in 2019. What I DID have, however, were the best grapes I've eaten in my entire life. They were sweet, juicy, perfectly firm and HUGE - the size of golf balls! I desperately want to go back to Hokkaido once Japan allows foreign tourists to return.

      @yokoemy 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I though the same! I wanted a piece of that melon too! I had some grapes when I visited Japan too and I'd love to have them again. As you said they were huge, sweet and juicy. I also had pears, oranges, a freshly squeezed yuzu juice... Every single fruit I had there was amazing! I am too looking forward to visiting Japan again!

    Love watching you. Foodie's.. And I can realate on the slush you're walking through although, it's been many years since I had to. Moved to Florida over 40 years ago from Paterson New Jersey (large city) where beautiful snow is only for one day. You are so much fun to watch. Please keep sharing.

    The cold climate allows sugar content of the fruits and veg to be super high (I’ve watched a lot of NHK Trails To Tsukiji).
    Combine that with Japanese emphasis on cultivation quality over quantity and you end up with amazing quality produce.
    PS - love your channel

    I'm not an uni person. I like many different seafood, but not so much uni. My favourites are ika and tako and hotate. As a kid I loved shrimp especially the greyish noth sea shrimps (hollandse garnalen, literally dutch shrimp). And I just love kaki furai.
    I love these kind of market areas. You can get fresh things you don't find in the supermarket.
    Never been to Hokkaido but I would love to, mostly for the nature parks.

    That's the kind if snow we have here in Eastern Virginia all the time. 😒 I'd climb that hill, but not in the winter. Looking forward to the food videos.

    What a wonderful tour of Hakodate and the Morning Market. The people were so...engaging.😅 That melon looked luscious and the looks on your faces verified that! Wish I could taste the fruit in Japan.
    The view of Cape Tachimachi was gorgeous. Thank you for trekking up there through the slush and snow filming for our pleasure.
    Hooray for the great news that you've been invited back to stay at Iizukatei! It is a stunning hotel in a very special place. I'm glad you'll get to see Natalie, and all the wonderful folks, again and also film their event. Win/win! Can't wait for that video!
    Much love to you both, as always. ❤️❤️

    In Australia, that’s called a Rockmelon. We get them all through summer. The skin has to be a creamy golden colour to be ripe and sweet. If there’s a lot of green in the skin, it’s not ready to eat.

    I've never been to Japan, but even with all the local signage, that scenery reminds me of home here in Indiana. Looks like Hokkaido is a place where if I ever visit, my Midwestern heart will feel right at home. Just with way better access to seafood yum. Plus that melon also reminds of home cause the area I live is known for it too.

    With your walking around I'd recommend getting snow studs for your boots. You can get ones that come off your shoe easily and fold away in to a bag when you don't need them (they look like rubber coverings). They're very good for walking around when there's snow and even ice

    I dont like looking at cruelly kept creatures and i find the idea of cooking or eating a live creature repugnant. I think people should catch it then kill it immediately. Never mind fresh to table. At least we could give it a clean death, swift and sure. Not leave it in fear and suffering until we chose to eat. All creatures feel fear even fish, sqid and crabs.
