I'm finding the Komoot navigation to be somewhat useful on my Grit X. However, there are some quirks. Like, you can't start a route mid-activity and you can't end a route without ending your activity. I also find it frustrating that there's no zoom function in the little breadcrumb map so you can get a perspective on where you stand in the bigger picture. Nice video as always!
I’d prefer to be able to zoom out a bit on the map so I can get the bigger picture. Or, if there were a countdown “timer” for distance till the next turn, I’d like that. As I’ve proven in even this video, I’m prone to missing an important turn
I used the “create a course” for the first time a couple of weeks ago on my Garmin245. I was needing a different route to run out of boredom of running the same route everyday. I live on the out skirts of town in Lexington, Ky and i created a 16 mile route that went through country roads that back up to my neighborhood. It worked flawlessly. I was impressed.
I used Strava routes and it's really awesome to use, it can have the stickiness or can be totally free (like where to pin a point) and it also works on the popularity. Used it once on a trail where I have never been at all it guided me well. I used the FR935. It also shows elevation profile what i have run and what i still have to. Don't exactly remember if it has an actual turn by turn navigation or is it just a map...still good enough for me and most people i think. If you look at the watch you can get lost. The strava routes is available through the connectIQ.
Excellent review video. Clarified lots of things. I was wondering if it's possible to import routes made in Strava or RidewithGPS or is it locked in to Komoot?
I'm using the Vantage V which is very similar - especially the navigation. I can tell you: You don't need anything more than this. When I'm running I just have to take a very quick look and I know if I'm on track or not: no unnecessary information on the screen. For running it's perfect, and I'm using it a lot. If I'm in the mountains for several days I use my GPR-B1000. It's even more reduced in terms of navigation but runs basically "for ever" - as long as the sun is shining... :)
What happens if you go off course by a significant amount, say 500m or more and then rejoin later in the route? In the city this could be a road closure and in the country an impassable bridge or path you need to go around.
Ive used mapmyrun for years. It's great for easy distance planning. It also does "directional" plans. E.g. Create 10 mile loop headed west. I'm sure there are others out there that are good.
I couldn’t figure out a way for it to give me turn by turn instructions, even when running with the phone app on and running a pre-planned route. Maybe there’s something I’m missing
@@kofuzi for map my run I completely agree. I only used it for planning a route, but then I was memorizing the turns ahead of time. I did not use it for turn by turn directions.
Have you ever used a Garmin? I’m finally going to try Polar with the Grit X, primarily because I’ve never been a huge fan of Garmin connect and IQ. While Garmin seems more customizable, I’m hoping the Polar flow platform will provide data in a more useful fashion. Just curious if you’ve used both, and if so what your opinion is between the two platforms. There’s a bunch of watch comparisons but rarely platform comparisons. Thanks! Keep up the great content.
You don't have to use komoot, I did import a gpx file yesterday to polar flow (extracted from my Strava) and it went just fine. Komoot just won't let you transfer to polar flow a route outside a paid zone.
Oh Yeah. Got one question. When you take off the Watch and let it rest, the LEDs go off, but the two leds in the center are staying on. Is that normal? The Vantage doesn’t do that, every LED goes off there. I also noticed that after you take the Watch, the LED’s went on and the Grit is giving me a Puls whitout having it on my arm. That’s not good, since that rate is pretty high and gives a wrong heartrate number in Flow. I’ve made a TH-cam Video about this issue.
This is normal and its part of the "auto-gain" function of the OHR sensor. The two LED's act as a sort of "confirmation" that the watch is on your wrist. You'll notice if you touch the sensor when it's in this state it wakes up the rest of the LED's.
They’re both very good and the features overlap quite a bit. I’m still testing so I’m not sure I can answer that quite yet. But the Grit X does have a lot of features that I like.
I’ll have a direct comparison video soon. I still want to get a better long term feel for the watch. If you have the Vantage M and are looking for more elevation data and navigation, then yes. If you have the V, I think that may be a closer call. But testing continues

Nice
Cool, thanks for the tip. I just checked it out on my Garmin Connect app.
Did the exact same thing with my forerunner 645 for a cycle route. No more need in buying the expensive Garmin cycle computers.
Good review....On the Komoot app when you select the endpoint select the option to Not follow ways... then it won’t force you on their way paths.

I get lost when I don’t look at the watch
@@kofuzi oops a typo, you can't get lost if you look at the watch*

Navigation without any map data. :-( On the hindsight it's good to see Polar start catching up where others were a couple years ago. ;-)
I’m not particularly good at reading maps. I just need to be notified when to turn and by how much. I care more about timing than graphics

My first watch was a vivoactive 3. I ran over a thousand miles with it.
I prefer polar flow to the garmin data presentation method.
Awesome Video! Is this starting to be your go to watch? You're a hell-va strava artists. Third career maybe. . .
How are you liking this versus the Vantage? I’m hearing the screen is a little better and the system might be less laggy.
It’s brighter and a bit snappier through the screens.

I don’t pay all that much attention to the wrist HR when running. But Ill take a look

kofuzi Not when running ;-) but when the Watch is on Rest Mode (on my desk). My English is too bad. I know ;-)
Chase the Summit So when you take the Watch off and let it rest the LED’s in the middle still remain on?
Like always great Video ❤️❤️❤️
Como se vinculan unas zapitillas al reloj?

Yo man, Gas is selling at 2.24 🤣 Way pricier than what we have in FL.
It was 2.09 last week, which may be the cheapest I’ve ever seen it in this urban setting
