I just stumbled across this I was born in 1973 my grandmother took me to see it at Laurel lakes I didn't get straight A's but I did get a B's and C's and me and my grandmother went to see this movie I was a kid I thought it was an awesome movie
A 80's classic. Just the beauty of the snowy mountains and the brumbies were amazing. Now here we are in 2021 and the government want to cull the grumbles
One of my all time Australian favourites. Great stuff. Tom Burlinson, Jack Thompson, Sigrid Thornton and Kirk Douglas are great. My Mum spoke to Gus Mercurio one day. He indicated a sad story to come from it was that Kirk Douglas was always complaining about never getting paid enough for playing two roles. After the last day of shooting, a stretch limo turned up. Douglas got in, never said goodbye to anyone and simply drove off. It says a lot that his first name rhymes with a word starting with the letter J.
Pretty much memorized every line family favorite. I was lucky to show draft horses and draft mules in competition with my dad and brother for over 30 years and this movie was an inspiration really for me at least. We quot different lines often. Classic movie from my childhood
We have this on DVD in the family collection. I only watched it recently as I didn’t think it would be my sort of film but it was surprisingly good even for someone who mainly watches noir I enjoyed it. Most are Australian so not that well known other than Jack Thompson and the great Kirk Douglas obviously but I couldn’t fault any of the performances.
0:14- Whoa! Whoa there, boy! Whoa! 0:33- (As the horse) Can you prove yourself on someone else? Nooooo! 0:48- That's Sigred Thorton. She was in The Day After Halloween. 1:21- (As the horse) You need some along time. We're out of herrrrre! 2:20- (As the horse) I told you I don't want to pose for the ending shot to Gone with the Wind! I like Stagecoach better!
Absolutely one of my favorites! The beauty of the horses and the scenery is so precious

Pity. He played such a great and likeable role with Spur.

One of many little pictures made in the 80's that studios did not think were worthless and turned around and brought home the gold at the box office.
One of my all time favorite movies ever made
All the romantics today, whom still exist, will always remember this movie.
Best horse movie ever!
He ain't a lad, brother. He's a man.
The Man from Snowy River.
That's RIGHT ! We just saw the end of it tonight.

Good old times :D Gotta watch this again :D
EPIC MOVIE ALONG WITH THE RETURN TO SNOWY RIVER!
When movies were wholesome..
I was one 8-year old boy who got totally lost in Sigrid Thornton’s eyes. 😍
Agree. Shes beautiful.
I was so in love with “Jim” as a little girl and grew up to fall in love with a young man who looked a lot like him 😅
Goosebumps!!!!!!
The title fits because the boy becomes a man through overcoming trouble !
Me- wanna watch 1980’s film trailers with me?
14 yo daughter - yes please!
Me - cue the narrator in 3..2..1...
R.I.P Kirk Douglas
(1916-2020)
Great acting, great music, great movie! Trailer, however, is sad- or maybe it just didn't age well..
Most romantic movie ever!
The *Man* from Snowy River
My grandpa voiced over in this
I once watched this when I was young, didn't get to the ending part though
I still, after all these years, can not see why Kurt Douglas was cast in his role. I have never been able to see it!
Great movie filmed in a fantastic part of Victoria
Muy buena Película
AC
I just went to the festival lmao
Gus Mercurio - Legend. New homes with land 30 grand. Cash & Company was solid.

Jack Thomson is probably the only Aussie actor to play Clancy
Harrison's daughter (Sigrid Thornton).
give the man a Marlboro
Would love a remake of this, but with donkeys instead of horses
He is not a lad he is a man
I came here to see the hat they're all talking about
Does he strike the horses with that awful whip?? The horses are terrified!!
No. It cracks in the air. Animals are not harmed
it's a quite impressive thing watch stock whip cracking. it's simply noise to round up stock animals
.
Australian stockmen cracked the whip in the air. It was the sound used to startle the horses to run in the direction the stockmen wanted.
Man, that was a cheesy trailer.
This is a terrible trailer for a great movie.
It's a bit hokey but I liked it.
