Yes, Brian was inspired by Rubber Soul when he made Pet Sounds, and yes Pet Sounds inspired The Beatles to make Sgt Pepper, but musically Pet Sounds is (and will always be) different class. No disrespect to The Beatles’ albums from that time; they are great, but they are just not THAT great. Only one other album ever reached the absurd musical greatness of Pet Sounds, and that is SMiLE.
Only a B.B fan can say that. However the lyrics in Smile are lousy. LP's with beautiful vocal harmonies (Beach Boys) and nice instrumentation (studio musicians). A good album, not more no less.

I feel like Brian was offended (which I can understand why) by Jimmy's gift at the beginning which was basically a joke gift and also mocking him for his hearing, like when Mike Love called Brian Dog Ears. That's just the vibe I got from those few first seconds of this video.
Brian Wilson wasn't hanging round Jimmy Kimmel (the man who asks successful people questions) too long. Looked like Wilson was in, did what he had to do and then he was gone. Wilson is one of the great composer/musicians. He's not a chat show guest! I doubt you're average person would understand him. Jimmy Kimmel should understand that much at least.
Brian's delivery is always hilarious. No matter what he says.
If you notice at the very end, Brian asks Jimmy if he did ok. Jimmy pats him on the back and says yes. Good stuff.
