  • In Part 4 of my Basic Hand Technique Revisited Series we take a look at executing short single stroke rolls. These short bursts of singles are very important in drum set and concert performance. They are useful for fills, solos, and hi hat embellishments as well as being prominent in orchestral snare drumming.

Only in the intro to this part 4 video I realized that we can change the playing speed of the video!!!
As a very beginner practice-pad drummer, everything in the left hand feel so strange and unnatural, that it is only logical for me to choose the bizarre traditional grip.
Your videos are so helpful and your skill is absolutely amazing, and being able to see your left hand in slow motion is pure gold.
    Thank you for this channel.

Thank you Rick, for this and all the recent videos on hand technique and stick control. I found it very beneficial in getting my left hand (traditional) up to a more balanced level with my right. The flam, drag and ruff lesson is particularly informative.
I would love to hear your thoughts and techniques for playing time , on , ahead or behind the beat. Thanks as always for your generosity, Paul 🙏🏻.

      Hi Paul
I did a video on that several years ago, but I can't remember what it's called. Too many videos up here and I am starting to lose track!
I will try to find it and get back to you.

Another very useful video. Here in The Villages ( a gigantic retirement Mecca with many performing groups) I have been spreading the word about your channel. All the old drummers here are hard to convince when it comes to learning new stuff. 😉

Great vid, Rick! Curious if you have any videos on developing fast single stroke tom rolls

Hi Ted...Isn't that what this video is about? Just apply these techniques to your toms.
