  • Feeding calcium to your chickens is important in the strength of their bodies and their eggs they are laying. Feeding the chickens their eggshells is a free and easy way to do so!

My hens just love these shells...they run for them when I bring them out. Thanks for the clear instructions.

I’m enjoying your videos! Good luck with your channel and with your gardening season. Great idea with the eggs.

Thank you so much! They've been fun to make and I'm looking forward to being able to look back on them and see how far we've come!

You can use parchment paper and just pour into the jar.

Do you wash the eggshells when first cracking them?

If the eggs aren't dirty I don't wash them. If there is poop or mud then I do scrub them.

    How long can these keep?

I've kept mine on the shelf for a about 2 weeks, not because they were going bad but because that's the longest I've physically been able to keep them! My chickens go through them quickly so I haven't had any concerns of them going bad. But I think as long as they are fully dried and you have them stored in a jar or something of the sort, they should keep for awhile!

@@rcklivestockhomestead2633 thanks! We will b getting some chicks soon. But we have been getting fresh eggs so I'm starting to do this now and wanted to be sure they would keep

What a good idea! If you are in doubt, I would just toss in the freezer and then they should last forever! You don't need to worry too much about a calcium source until they start laying but I love the idea of thinking ahead!

Have you noticed that your hens egg shells are strong in doing this feeding them theirshells?
Mine seem weak with oyster shells, plus our hens don't seem interested in the oyster shells. They do like the crushed egg shells but I've been lazy in preparing them. Just wondering if you or your viewers notice a difference.
