Yup, I think you’re absolutely right about the animals and Theo; he has a fatherly energy that they respond to - and in this childless world, pets have almost become replacement children for humanity, giving people something to nurture and care for. This film is a masterpiece. :)
True. Even though this retelling is so different from the book, I'm glad they referenced the animals that people started using in an attempt to fill the hole left by humanity's infertility. I really do love this movie. Both P D James' book and Alfonso Cuaron's telling are very special in their own ways. I do however wish the movie referenced the Omegas a little more, other than the time they're attacked while driving through the countryside. The book refers to them as almost god like in appearance, with arrogant attitudes and savage tendencies. Yet the extremely brief moment they appear in the movie they look like homeless adults.
Your references and film choices are on fire. Memento, CineFix, and so on. As someone who don't have a child, I love how this film moved me so much with the final scene with the baby and walking past the soldiers. Great taste and great reaction & analysis! Have been watching many of your reactions. Good luck with your channel growth! Curious to see your reaction on some films that are completely different in style to what you got so far. If by any chance you want to expand your selection, I highly recommend the 4 below (imdb/RT scores will vouch for me). They are old and different to the stuff on your channel so far, but also different to one another. They are each in their own excellent film and very unique. Woman in the Dunes - Teshigahara (1964) The Piano Teacher - Haneke (2001) North by Northwest - Hitchcock (1959) Persona - Bergman (1966)
First time watching your channel. Loved your analysis of this movie and your reaction. There are still folks whom have not seen this film, you're not alone.
This is a movie I haven't seen in so long but I remember thinking the first time I watched it that Theo being a friendly animal magnet must have been some kind of biblical reference because biblical references were all over the film(Kee in the barn is Mary in the manager, Theo frequently washing his feet, the Fishes) but it might not be biblical it might just be Christian like a reference to Saint Francis. Also I had forgotten Michael Caine's character died, caught me off guard to see again!
I loved your commentary ater the reaction. Excellent. This movie is in my top 3 films. Glad you can watch and enjoy. Thanks for your insight and words on this. Keep it coming
Awesome reaction first off! I think the animal thing is metaphorical... he's a friend of life, even if he doesn't see himself that way. The"world" sees him that way. That's probably a dumb analysis on my part, but its something I didn't notice til you brought it up and it's the best I can do haha! Again, thx for the reaction, it was really enjoyable.
also just so many iconic characters in this, alfred playing an old hippie, the cool palestinian family that helps them out, that gypsy lady, the crazy guard sid, the rage against the machine dude, the wooey nurse lady, like everyone just feels real. Also there's something this director alfonso cuaron loves the idea of doing action scenes where the characters are stuck in a car, it's very unique and just puts you there with them.
Cool Palestinian family? Who's that? The old folks where Theo got sandals in the camp? I assumed they were russian with that big Lenin medal on display
You should watch Come and see, its one of the only movies that gave me a feeling of terror like this one, and talks about a certain ethnicity the Bellarussians.
This film is a masterpiece.
Yup. Its top GOAT for sure!
More people need to watch this film. It’s one of the best movies ever made and nobody knows about it

I was about to write this but no need now.
The scene where they escape the building with the baby is one of the most moving scenes I can think of in a movie.

Call of duty vibes during the last fight scene

It's really nice to see more people react to this.
Hope you can add Come and See to your list
Yes, this movie was so good. This movie should have been so much more popular. Please react to "The Road" .
I would watch him do book reviews as well.

The Theo 'It's an animal thing' is...bold.
The policies and narratives are key.
No truth. Just us!
I never knew Dylan was a girls name too until I found out about Woody Allen's 7 year old that he r@ped.
