What About Hell

  • Our third lesson on Universalism and Hell focuses on the Biblical description of Hell. Hell exists. It is a real place that the Bible describes, including what it is like. Jesus Christ came to save sinners from sin, death … and Hell.

In the sermon, Justin says that “Teachers revert to Hebrew / Greek when they want to change a clear truth in English.” I disagree. Rather, the clear truth is found in the original Hebrew and Greek languages.
In the preface to the 1611 King James Bible, the translators said that Greek and Hebrew were the tongues “wherein God was pleased to speak to his Church by his Prophets and Apostles.”
In 1 Timothy 2:4, Paul writes that God “will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.” Greek and Hebrew are tools to help all believers in the body of Christ more effectively understand and appreciate the truth of God’s word.

I was curious about the "lake of fire burning with sulphur (brimstone)" so I did a research about the burning point of sulphur and what it looks like. You can find some volcanic areas on earth to get the picture also. Sulphur burns at 400° Celsius (752F) and with a very dark, blue flame. Very fitting for the description of "utter darkness" too. Regardless the smell. 🤢🤢

Yes amen... Justin has been my go-to since rightly dividing in 2017, although I have bounced around with Rodney as well. Lately come across Martin zender who is a hoot at times. The issue that Justin is misunderstanding is God's judgments. As I'm learning about this topic from others, particularly Rodney, he's not teaching that it doesn't exist, only that it's not eternal and all will be subdued in the end like the Apostle Thomas.
With my soul have I desired thee in the night; yea, with my spirit within me will I seek thee early: for when thy judgments are in the earth, the inhabitants of the world will learn righteousness.
      Isaiah 26:9 KJV

Why the rejection of the inspired Word of God in the original Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek?
Could it be the rightly dividing camp are utilizing the same 'fear' tactic as Jehovah's Witnesses by 'cautioning' everyone away from the origjnal languages so they can have more influence and even control on the outcome?
Perhaps not intentionally, BUT, it appears to have that effect upon many followers!
Now, I greatly appreciate and respect Justin and his teaching of the Word. Nothing compares, and I have been truly blessed, however, I draw the line in disagreement when it comes to KJV Onlyism and not using the original languages.
      Food for thought....

You’ll also notice many cult tactics used by Grace Ambassadors such as presenting straw-man arguments to uphold their teachings, and using pejorative depictions of true Christian theology and theologians. So, inconsistency fits the bill.

40:39 God spoke through the apostles and told us what to do about that.
2 Timothy 3:5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!
Luke 12:5 But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear Him who, after He has killed, ( has power to cast into hell;) yes, I say to you, fear Him!
2 Timothy 3:5 from such people turn away!
God told us through the Apostles that people would be like this in the last days and to turn away from those people.
2 Peter 3:3 knowing this first: that scoffers will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts,
Jude:17 But you, beloved, remember the words which were spoken before by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ: 18 how they told you that there would be mockers in the last time who would walk according to their own ungodly lusts. 19 These are sensual persons, who cause divisions, not having the Spirit.20 But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit, 21 keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.
22 And on some have compassion, making a distinction; 23 but others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire, hating even the garment defiled by the flesh.
2 Timothy 3:5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!
Galatians 6:7 Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. 8 For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life.
Jeremiah 15:16 Your words were found, and I ate them, And Your word was to me the joy and rejoicing of my heart; For I am called by Your name,O Lord God of hosts. 17 I did not sit in the assembly of the mockers, Nor did I rejoice; I sat alone because of Your hand, For You have filled me with indignation.

First, I would like to say that I respect and appreciate Justin, I have learned a great deal from his teaching of the Scriptures. However, this is clearly not the case with this teaching and I find it very difficult to condense and hold back my comments!
For the first time it became glaringly obvious to me as I listened closely and studied along with this teaching how deception can, and does touch us all....
Justin stated that he is "trying to get you to trust your Bible", after he has tried to convince us that those who search out the original Hebrew and Greek meaning is a 'red flag' and they have an agenda! WHAT?
Is there fear involved in his conclusion to only trust the KJV and keep his listeners from searching the matter out more deeply by going to the Hebrew and Greek? I honestly sense a measure of control, such as with the JW'S.
I encourage each and everyone to read through every verse in your Bible that contains the word 'hell'. Search out the context, the Hebrew and Greek for yourself. Ask yourself questions..."is man judged and sentenced to 'hell' BEFORE judgement day? Is God in 'hell', did Jesus go to 'hell'?
If the KJV translators chose 'hell' and 'grave' for the same word 'sheol' in Ezekiel 31:15-17, WHY did they do that? Were they correct in doing so? They were men who did their best with the resources and knowledge they had at that time and consequently made errors. Just read through their own words in "The Translators to the Readers" preface to the KJV 1611. They themselves, encouraged the use of Hebrew and Greek, they themselves understood the need for a variety of translations to understand the text and that their work could be corrected....hence all the revision dates of 1612, 1613, 1616, 1617, 1629, 1638, 1762 and 1769.
I imagine they might be shocked and dismayed with the KJV onlyism crowd!
Search out the meanings of the words:
torment- touch stone to test metals?
    Brimstone- power to purify
    Fire- pure, purify
Could there be a different purpose, understanding and meaning?
Personally, I believe that none of us truly has the full understanding of all that God has prepared....
I do hope and pray that each of us search out the matter for ourselves and not rely solely upon the teachings that we listen to, no matter how much we respect and appreciate the man teaching. ❤

Agreed. This was a bloviating hour long history lesson with straw man arguments. I have learned some good stuff from this guy but I don't buy this kind of explanation. I read Hebrews 12 and consider its theme of chastening and the final verse. ...29 For our God is a consuming fire. Since brimstone purifies I see that as the purpose of Lake of Fire. Severe punishment but with a purpose of eventual reconciliation.2 cor 5:19 ... God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, Justin can teach Eternal Conscious Torment as a doctrine but I have yet to be persuaded especially because he didn't even use many Pauline scriptures but I am not a teacher just a student. Keep studying.

I believe that hell exist. I believe that people don't realize just how evil and wicked the flesh really is, and the soul willful partaking in it.
The degenerant will most certainly go there, that's why Jesus came to save us by dying for the sins of the world, he came to save us from something beyond the veil. Then what about the coming judgement for Satan and his fallen angels? Death doesn't always mean physical death, but an actual place of torment, a holding place for the damned, to be cast into the lake of fire.

The inhabitants of hell will have incorruptible BODIES too because there's a RESURRECTION OF DAMNATION = John 5:28-29 "Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, And shall come forth; they that have done good, to the resurrection of life; *and they that have done evil, to the RESURRECTION OF DAMNATION."*
These bodies will not be "annihilated" or consumed by fire as many believe but will STAND the physical heat of burning brimstone at 752F and NOT "burn up" FOREVER.
Revelation 20:12-15 *"AND I SAW THE DEAD, SMALL AND GREAT, STAND* (!!) before God; (this deserves a PHYSICAL APPEARANCE , A BODY) and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. *And whoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire."*

Because of your insistence that the Bible is the ‘infallible word of God,” you’re locked into the idea that your god is a fire breathing monster. You can’t think of God in any other way because, you know, ‘hell.’ The Bible says it so it must be so.
What if you’re wrong? What if the church is wrong? Can it be said that it even knows God if hell teaching is a poor understanding of who God is?
What if God is truly love and won’t take no as the final answer? What if love truly ‘keeps no record of wrongs’ and ‘never fails?’
What if every knee will truly bow and every tongue truly confess that Jesus is Lord, not because of a boot on his neck but because it glorifies God that His goodness ultimately brings us all to repentance?
What if God pursues us beyond the grave and His patience outlasts our resistance?
The problem with hell teaching, as I see it is that it makes God and Jesus incapable of saving the worst of us. And if he can’t save the worst of us, why save anyone at all?
