There really isn't enough good I can say about this game. It's a classic, a legend, and it still holds up well today despite the very ancient graphics. The gameplay is still viable and it still can provide hours upon hours of entertainment, especially with a partner to tag team with. There are ways to win without killing each other, ways to challenge one another even with disparate power levels. And then there's the Horde, the ultimate test of your Mail Order Monster battle prowess. I feel as though this ancient software is the true precursor to things like Pokemon, Monster Rancher, and virtually all other virtual pet type games where you train a beast and send it to battle for fame and fortune. This so badly needs a modern remake, one that will stay loyal to the original while bringing its graphics up to the modern standard. Alas, even after all this time, it has never happened and it might never happen. This game deserves more than a forgotten grave. It deserves to be reborn so another generation can experience the epic battles and the excitement of watching their very own monster grow more and more powerful under their direct control.
You said it better then I ever could. Playing this in the 80s with my friend was more fun than playing the Nintendo. The planning, the battles...I've never had so much fun playing a video game. I worked on a FAQ for it years ago after finally testing all of the weapons and armor...I need to put it on Gamefaqs one of these days...
its just like u said , this game is/was a fundamental/instrumental/necessary part of the artistic development/iteration process ; agreed on all fronts =]
Hands down best C64 game and got a lot of well deeervee accolades. I set about building a modern day version but his ask for the right to use was $$$$$$
It's weird you didn't play this in campaign-mode. I got a squid to 255 on all stats to where the graphic representation of "mind" had a glitch: it was displayed as ABCD for sprites instead due to a stack overload. Eventually, you can only fight a character known as RRRIII. I had maximum weapons and nukes as well. Perhaps you should revisit this one?
This was a game WAY before its time. If the internet had been around back then, this would have been World Of Warcraft popular.

I would love for a current day developer to remake this. Especially with capabilities to play online.

Another one I have not seen before, looks like a very advanced concept for its time, character-selection and character-building. Amazing!
YensR i played it a lot as a child

My favorite C64 game ecer
RAH! I bought this game when it came out at Toys R' Us.
Holy shit this brings back memories.
I used to play this game a bunch against friends as a kid. My BeastFu attacks were totally on point.
No wonder some it reminds me of archon Paul Reiche III was involved in both.
Grav-gun FTW

That's exactly what had me scratching my head. Building up your character over time is the best part of the game!
