@@cissyalinga yes dear they feel that the scent or smell on the eggs is not familiar so they think it's not their own. My mum used to avoid what she called disturbing the hatching hens.
When I was like 12 years old what we used to do to avoid the eggs to be spoiled we would collect the eggs and leave one egg so that the chicken does not leave the spot. Once the chicken start sitting on the eggs we would the rest back. This help to avoid other animals from eating the eggs as we were using free range. Now that I have grown up so to get my own place, I hope I will start doing it again
Am also doing local poultry birds here in northern Uganda, what I do I collect the eggs everyday and leave only one egg, when they start sitting on that one egg i remove it and bring back the rest
Please when the hen sit on the egg you are not suppose to have any contact with the eggs until they hatch and move there babies if not they will reject the eggs.For the eggs that did not hatch you need to check the male because it they are not fertile they will not hatch.They should not be mix with hens that are not sitting on eggs.
Infact you are not even supposed to keep checking the eggs.
