Seriously. This guide got me to the last phase, finally. Every other guide focuses on using different skills or shinobi tools. This is the only one I’ve found that teaches you how to actually fight him.
When Isshin goes into his stance in his first phase I've found its pretty much always safe to strafe to the left in a circle around him, avoids the stance and the follow up sweep, allows you to get in a couple free hits and keep momentum. I've always thought his final phase was fairly easy if you can just get off 2 or 3 lightning reversals you pretty much have a guaranteed victory. Great guide though, a lot of these strats are probably safer and easier than trying to wear down his vitality.

This is the best breakdown of this fight of any channel I've seen and I've seen alot of them, no stupid axe spamming all the while you have 28 attack power or kitting him and using the umbrella....just pure Sekiro the way it should be. Thank you very much

Yea straight up. Out of all the different vids I've watched from Tyrannicon, The Fighting Cowboy, etc... this really actually gets what the fight is supposed to be love this vid now all I got to do is beat the Demon Of Hatred and Owl(Father) I'll have the complete but those are 2 brick walls I can't seem to break through

When he's doing the lightning attack twice in a row, he's basically asking for it.
I've mastered genichiro and isshins 1st phase but din't know what to do with 2nd phase. I hate running away from bosses and that's what almost every guide does, I'll use yours and hope for good results. Thank you
I found a really easy way..
Just use firecrackers and Double Ichimon.. it breaks posture like nothing else..
1- start and run behind Genichiro, hit him once or twice and do Ichimon double.. do this maybe 4-5 times and he's gone.
2- Ishiin first phase is even easier.. just run and hit him a bunch of times, parry move back ichimon double.. as he charges his ashina cross get ready to go behind him and Ichimon double again.. 3- you can take him down with maybe 5-6 combos like this..
4- the second phase is more complicated and requires to run underhim when he leaps to ichimon double. the rest is just parry/block.. itry to either stay behind him or 3 meters in front of him.. a couple of mikiri counters also help alot..
5-the last phase is a peice of cake, just hit him, parry and wait for him to do the lightning leap.. reflect it back and ichmon double.. you literally need to do this 4 times to take him down
The best part is.. even if he blocks Ichimon takes a huge chunk of posture.. if you feel like you can't get to him just use firecrackers and ichimon..

finally got him using this method. some of those mikiri counter opportunities can be pretty unforgiving.
This is by far best guide for finishing phase 1. For phase 2 and 3, Tyrannicon has a very easy strategy with loaded umbrella that works 100%
Spirit emblems are too expensive
@@RadCatholicGamer8978 go to the spirit palace viewing platform and assassinate the nobles from the rooftops using the tanto and as for the guards theyre pretty much blind if you slide into the building then go to the left and you can jum assassinate the archer.
@@RadCatholicGamer8978 just farm the purple assassins in the antechamber, they drop 12 emblem s and 150 sen per kill
Just dodge to the left 2times on first phase of ishin, then use Ichimonji Double behind him.

For some reason my block button doesn’t work as well as yours and when he hits my posture goes way up fast. I’m 19 vitality and 34 AP. But either way this guide is straight forward. I don’t do this method, I do the umbrella and run away like a girl method, but it’s cool to see many ways that work.

Dude thanks. Ill give it a shot. Was struggling trying to keep heals up. Haven't even got to the finalstage yet. This whole games been tough but fair for the most part. And every fight I've been able to Sally but surely figure it out and get there. But this one had me stuck.

Btw, I am a bit remiss in not sending my thanks for this video. I was finally able to beat this guy after so many hours of trying thanks to this video. Of the ones I’ve seen, this one probably best suited my play style and was easier for me to adapt to. For those wondering, these tactics do work as of 1.06. I would also add that if you manage to deflect rather than block Ishin’s ichimonji double in phase 2/4, it causes him to do a sword art that does a straight-line wave. That break can enable you to circle around and get in a hit or 2

"genichiro is an easy boss" has died to him 6 times so far
If only rnjesus would bless me tried the umbrella and he was still all over the place. But I may have forgot about the running back from him after each hit.
one thing that worked for me though
when he sheaths his sword in the first phase you can go up close to him and block spam then he will push you back and sweep which you can jump counter
alternatively you can run away and then go to his side and use a thrust attack when he does the ashina cross
i would also say dont BLOCK all moves in phase 2 and instead deflect them as it builds posture. the reason is because when he uses the long spear combo with the thrust at the end he can break your posture. but pretty good strat nevertheless

So basically Ishin Sword Saint is a test of patience and nerve; something I lack both of it seems. Also never occurred to me that I could block his Ichimonji Double. Could’ve saved myself a bunch of headaches. I’ll give the developers their due... they developed a boss fight that at least as far as I’ve seen on the videos have at least 3 or 4 viable strategies you could use to take him down.

I beat every boss & mini boss in the game except for 2 and its frustrating. Owl father & isshin sword saint. Will use your very informative vid and hopefully beat isshin. Thanks.
I consider Owl Father as the hardest boss in Sekiro ( not considering Demon of Hatred )... because his attacks are so powerful and the battlefield given to us is so restrictive...

First of all, thanks to the author for this guide. So I'll give a couple of suggestions, how I changed it, and killed Isshin after 2-3 attempts(before this guide I've tried over 20 times).
1 state - just learn the patterns of Genichiro, attack him non-stop without any tools of buffs. You can spend 1 gourd here at maximum(if more just give up and restart)
2 state - restore your health, Ungo buff or sugar, 1 pellet, and the series of lazulite (preferable) or fire axe: axe-hit-hit, axe-hit-hit..... It will end in 15-20 seconds
3,4 states - follow this guide
The reason why I decided to change 1-2 states. I'm not so skilled as the author, and Genichiro and Isshin both are fast at their start, so one of them should be learned and another just "skipped" with axe.

Good strategy. I’ve found that the shinobi tools and skills are just crutches that keep you from learning the fight. The only thing I would suggest is dodging whenever Genichiro jumps, instead of deflecting. You can get in a couple of free hits.
I’m gonna try your spacing strategy for Isshin’s second phase. His combos always seem to get me when I’m up close.
EDIT: GOT 'EM! This is easily the best strategy for beating Isshin. I'll be directing anyone struggling with the boss to this video.

I can make it to his second phase pretty consistently without getting hit at all sometimes I’ll get hit once or something, but I pretty much instantly die after my heels are all whittled down immediately right when he gets to second phase
It is irritating the hell out of me that you actively just stay almost running off of the cliff 🙄😂 whatever tho I guess lmao I just wouldn’t personally risk throwing away a half of a health bar for nothing lol. Still, good video my dude

I never understood how isshin was the hardest boss i beat him in 4 tries while inner owl was a pain
This helped me get through to his last phase, nice one, the blocking of the spear then Mikiri counter to build his posture worked quite a few times, but the last phase fucks me, and hesitate to get the electric counter, got him few times but died. Still stuck on him. The guide to stay close so shen he does that wind strike to jump on his head great idea, because his attack range is so long, better to stay close and block until you can Mikiri counter to build his posture. Only problem is he sometimes changes to sweeps, when i think it's a thrust. Really gotta watch his movements closely and react fast. Man this guy is a bitch of a boss, but i can see with more practice now i know the method to getting to his last stage, i can see some ligjht at the end of the tunnel, just wish his damage wasn't so huge. I need some rice balls and more rice i think. 😂

Wow, on my game he doesn’t act anything like this at all in my game he literally turns into an actual real helicopter and chopped you into pieces while at the mini gun on his side, is unloading into your for head at the speed of light

They have added new moves for fuck sake
So basically, keep trying it over and over again until you learn his move set and play the game using its core mechanics the way it was intended? It's how I beat him but it's not much of a guide hahaha

As I mentioned in my comment, this is a very sound strategy with the critical part being patience and keeping your nerve. My bad habit is I try the mikiri counter way too early rather than waiting until the kanji starts to fade.
The other part is when he does that ichimonji, panic and try to run instead of just blocking as depicted in the video.
At least with this video I went from struggling on phase 2 to semi regularly getting to 3. My undoing on 3 is that again I just need to undo my bad habits and keep calm
