    Brilliant John, only found your videos this morning but good timing as I'm a 56 year old UK 1970's skater that has been in a time warp with my G&S fibreflex which I still have and ride but finally (and a bit reluctantly) updating to a modern board now so have to re-learn all again. One variation is a no comply. There is a regular no comply pop, and an easier no comply slide. For the no comply slide, plant your front foot inside the ramp, like you did for a staple gun, then scoop/slide the back truck along the coping with your back foot, for style points, you can grab the nose with either hand.

    Amazing job here Jon at demonstrating so many tricks and variations! As someone who rides decks that are 9 - 10" myself, I was wondering what your favorite decks are that you've had the opportunity to ride. I was also interested in your opinion of the Atomic Man Jeff Kendall Deck and if you found it to be superior to other wide decks? I've been riding the Welcome Gaia for a while and grew up riding the Natas, Obrien and have tried most of the original Bones Brigade decks, but I like the new "old school" decks where they've added a decent sized good kick nose, like on the Kendall.

    Some rad tricks there man, great vid and great work! Is your ramp 2'9" high from the flat bottom to the top of the ramp or is it 2'9" overall including the 4" or so for the thickness of the flat bottom? Just asking as my ramp is 3'6" high overall with a 6'3" radius and is quite whippy and I was thinking of reducing the height by a few inches to make it a bit easier for my boy to learn stuff on, your ramp looks a bit more mellow.
    Keep the videos flowing, the're great👍

    Great stuff JB! I'd say there's a bit of controversy around the 14/15 mark but nothing that couldn't set you straight over a couple of beers and history lesson regarding a certain level of style required in order to designate a particular 'manoeuvre' as a legitimate trick 😂 Consider yourself lucky that i'm the type of guy that MAY let this slide... depending on the atmosphere of the session 😉

    • @JonBishopSkate
      @JonBishopSkate  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah man! Always eager to learn, my 100 tricks video is probably better all round I think as this one was recorded about a year in. At this point I was (and I am still 😂) an over enthusiastic beginner. I wanted to push myself to see how many tricks I could learn in a short amount of time, so as you point out the style and delivery could certainly be improved. Trying to navigate the gamete of etiquette and histrionics is indeed a mine field. A regular theme in the comments is trick names, I’ve found that a lot tricks have different names depending on which scene you are from, also there are various variations in the nitty gritty of the trick that make it legit to some guys and not to others? As I progress I look back at various videos I uploaded and there are cringeworthy moments for sure. I think of deleting these video? It’s amazing how wrong you can be and how much more there is to learn, even when you think you have all the info. However I leave the videos up there as a kind of a document of the various pitfalls and possibles of the route I took as a novice? Anyway many thanks for the feedback.

  • @Taffaz
    @Taffaz 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Do you know if there is a good public mini ramp in Dorset? Preferably on the Bournemouth side of things, the half pipe at two riversmeet is a bit too high to learn on.

    • @JonBishopSkate
      @JonBishopSkate  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey dude, yeah that’s what I found, the public Mini’s seem to always be a touch too high?
      There is a ramp at West Moors, but that is still quite fast? The Corfe Mullen Mini is 4 foot, but there is a mellow three foot quarter pipe that I used to learn tricks on before I built my ramp. There is a 1 foot quarter at Totton that I learned to rock on? I wish there was a mellow 2 foot half pipe around to learn on, it would get used a lot !!

    • @Taffaz
      @Taffaz 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JonBishopSkate Cheers for that, I couldn't even get the roll back to fakie sorted until I went to Slades farm and tried on the mellower ramps of the snake run. Once I got that sorted the half pipe wasn't as bad but not going anywhere near the top. I'll give Corfe Mullen a try and maybe make a trip to Totton if that is still too high.

    Very cool video! I'd die to have access to a ramp like this. I generally prefer more fluid moves to the stop-start tricks, so why no FS or BS 360's in this video? But great stuff anyway!!!

    • @JonBishopSkate
      @JonBishopSkate  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey dude!
      When you say 360s do you mean 360 kick turns? Or 360 pivots ?
      I really want to do them, but last time I had a session on 360 kick turns I started to get them and then twisted my ankle and was out of the game. It’s stuck in my mind and now it’s a case of risk and reward. I want to give them a go, but would feel stupid if I ended up missing another chunk of riding because of them? I’ve got a mental block on the F/S rock n roll as well?
      Obviously there is the 360 rock n roll in there.
      I’ll keep working on the flow, I have got a bit carried away on the stalls for sure!!
      Best Jon

    • @AlecStansfieldMusic
      @AlecStansfieldMusic 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jon Bishop I guess I meant kick turns. I never learned even a fraction of the tricks that you have, but 180 kick turns on near vertical was the first I ever learned, then 540’s felt really cool, though I didn’t always pull em off. But this was in 1978(!) I get the “it ain’t safe to try that” mindset after a bad wipe out. That’s the beauty of skating - always exploring the edge of what we can achieve. But I never lived near any kind of ramps after I left Bristol in 1979 so now an Evolve Carbon GTR eSk8 keeps me happy! But your rocking it - keep up the good work!

    • @JonBishopSkate
      @JonBishopSkate  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Alec Stansfield thanks dude, this has given me the encouragement to try again! I’ll put together a video when I brave it. I’ve been giving the 360 pivot a go and feel more happy with that, I just can’t work out how to spin that last bit as the wheel gets pinched!

    • @AlecStansfieldMusic
      @AlecStansfieldMusic 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jon Bishop Jon Bishop Ha! I’m not sure I even know what a pivot is! (Wheels pinched?) - but I look forward to watching the vid! Oh, and cool music too (from another keen guitarist)!

    • @JonBishopSkate
      @JonBishopSkate  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Alec Stansfield cool dude, yeah the pivot is when the truck is on the coping, so spinning 360 on the truck

  • @reeceparriah4772
    @reeceparriah4772 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I have a mini ramp and the coping seems almost too big for it, do you think I should get smaller coping or is bigger coping just good for different tricks? Like it sticks out about 1/4 an inch out of the ramp and makes tricks like 50/50 stalls and drop ins harder but it’s way easier to grind. So asking your opinion since your coping is so small

    • @JonBishopSkate
      @JonBishopSkate  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah dude, I like bigger coping myself, it’s easier to hang up on, but easier to lock in on. The average relief is around 9mm which Is what I have here so you can measure yours and drop it down if it really sticks out. I find too little coping more dangerous?

    Incredible. You dominated your miniramp. Blunt to fakie. I know you can. I can't lol.

      If I am not wrong, the regular fs feeble grind / stall was not in your list? Could be a good one for a tuto. I am working on it, find way harder than the fakie version. Got some nice ones, but I am still far from being consistent. Cheers!

      Yeah, I thought I could do them, but I don’t think I do them correctly so I left it out. Someone was kind enough to pick me up on the top wheel needing to not be touching the deck? which in retrospect makes sense and looks good. I do mine with the heel side wheel up against the coping, like an overcooked F/S axle stall. It’s still hard to come back in from that position, but done proper would be harder?

    Mini ramp tricks are easy to do but hard to commit and fall through with. The hardest part of doing a rock to fakie is staying on your board, same thing with 40% of these tricks. Just don’t bail, and commit, if u fall on a mini ramp you’ll likely be fine. Try to do what u don’t think u can do... you’ll be surprised
