Your commitment to the farming cause knows no boundaries. The days off never come.have a good sleep 👍👌informative vid.that frac tank is the way forward!!👌
That tank will help in wet springs if you use the drag hose to help with compaction. Great idea Andy. You need to show us more of that view of the farm its awsome.
You have a great farm set up there young man. I didn't realize that your farm is on top of a big hill. Great landscape and location by the look of it. An interesting video too!
That bunk looks great, if you ran a wall down the middle of that i don't even think we could fill that monster with both haylege and corn. Frack tank should work well, neighbors have one and they are almost exclusively doing drag line for liquid application. They have some creative ways of utilizing the drag lines to get from the tanks /pits to the tractor toolbar. Thanks for sharing.
At the 9:19 mark you flew down to the old Harold Searls farm. Silo still standing. Barn gone. My father had heifers here in the mid 1970s. I remember the silo did not have an unloader. Everyday he had to go up and pitch corn silage down to feed the heifers.
You will be amazed how the frac tank reduces haul back. Our semis are bigger than our applicator so either you were guessing how full to fill or you hauled 1500 gallons back. On a 100 load day it adds up quick
It would be interesting to do a simulation of the system with and without the frac tank to predict the workflow improvement. One would need some statistical data though (load- / unload times at the bunk and at the tank, road trip time, spreading time).
Just came across your channel and watched a view videos, the way you explain things is great and i can really learn more about farming. I just have a little 10 acre piece of land near Gladwin MI. and plant corn and beans for the wildlife. Guess what I am trying to say is you have a new subscriber and looking forward to your vids. Quick question how big is your herd of milkers and how many acres do your farm?? Take care and be safe brother.

I am a licensed stormwater operator. It seams your farm is as regulated has our business which is Metal Finishing. The rules over all are good for everyone.
Andy. I would guess there is going to be lots of tanks for sale in oilfield used soon . some in Pennsylvania. Lots in Texas That is really a nice system for recycling Fuilds
Third generation. We milked in a tie stall barn up until the year 2000 and then we built everything on this side of the road new. So we have only been a large farm for 20 years and only have been planning as we go. We never really intended to only milk about 500 cows.
Andy Is spreading manure on the fields away of getting rid of manure or is it beneficial for crop if so are you able to decrease the amount of fertilizer you have to by
hey man i found out recently that mixing silage liquor and manure can apparently create H2S? shouldn't be a problem mixing it in to the lagoon because yours is well managed but be wary of adding it straight in to a spreader
.Big landfills have same setup for catching the juice or the run off It's stored in a big water tower then they truck it off to a water treatment center ,some have direct line to treatment plant smells like sewage Some burn off the methane or heat shop in winter or produce Electric Someone I know told me this that works in waste removal so I don't know how much is accurate
You have quite an operation on this farm. Can you raise all your feed? How long can you keep silage. Does it loose a lot or nutrition over time? I was raised on tobacco farm.
Nice video Andy boy that drone sure make it easier on you Hay you mind me asking back in the 80s we started selling a manure spreader and pumps made by husky have you ever heard of them
Good explanation on the bunks. Going to be interesting seeing how the frac tank helps you this fall with manure application. Are you not able to send the runoff from the bunks directly to the lagon? Thank you for today's video.
I've seen those same containment tanks at condo construction sights collecting under ground water etc... Do you still have your nice Dodge pick up? I haven't seen it in your vids for a long time. Cheers
About your tires you use to cover the bunks, here in KS, we're not allowed to keep old tires due to mosquito's. It's a huge fine for us here, plus you get the EPA sitting on your doorstep and interfering with daily life on the farm(s). Is there some special licensing or fees you're having to pay in order to keep and use them? Don't frac tanks need a cover? Great video as always. Cheers :)
We lose 4"-6" off the side it's not that much considering how many times of feed are stored in them bunks when we split them. I tell ya what we are going to be getting them bunks cleaned up here in the next couple days . We'll weigh what we clean up.
Good video. Having the drone really puts things in better prospective, being able to see everything from above. Im a little sloooooow sometimes so the drone footage helped lol Thumbs up! Sub'd
Yes I realize this but I watched a documentary on the capturing of methane to produce electricity for the farm and was able to sell the unused electricity back to the power company
If it takes a tractor to work the pump, why not just pull it with a tractor? Are you thinking about going umbilical system? Be better than that big heavy tractor and tanker for ground compaction
I don’t honestly know if those have jacks at all i think the hydraulics might be the jacks. I have a Huge like 5000 cow farm by my that has 2 of those frac tanks and I have never seen jacks on them at all.
Man what an operation!! I had no idea that you had to catch and apply all the run off ,off the roofs and bunks ,understandable but quite a job to engineer and maintain ! Any idea how many acres of square footage that is I'm pretty simple but some thing about that all amazes me, not as easy as oh I think we'll just start over here!!!! I heard you say something about a drag line ,I've always kinda wondered if you ever do use that kind of system? I'm sure a lot of your distances prohibit it but maybe that tank will let it work for you , I'm sure you're way ahead on that , the amount of times that poooo gets pumped is kinda crazy! Thanks for a very interesting video ,no crash all good!!!

This video answered a few of my questions. Thanks Andy 🍻
wow-every time u show ur buildings i think--whoever thought all this up-was way ahead of others. how many generations old is the place?
Third generation. We milked in a tie stall barn up until the year 2000 and then we built everything on this side of the road new. So we have only been a large farm for 20 years and only have been planning as we go. We never really intended to only milk about 500 cows.
It would be very interesting to know how many average lawns it would take to fill all your bunks.
Andy
Is spreading manure on the fields away of getting rid of manure or is it beneficial for crop if so are you able to decrease the amount of fertilizer you have to by
It is great fertilizer and it cuts down on the amount of commercial fertilizer that we have to use.
Pretty cool Andy
Do you get much waste on the side walls when you feed like that out of them? How many inches into the are bad?
It's minimal, it allows to feed at a faster rate and we don't get any waste from the top.
Good video 👍

Fred F he is right
You have quite an operation on this farm. Can you raise all your feed? How long can you keep silage. Does it loose a lot or nutrition over time? I was raised on tobacco farm.
Yes we raise all of it own, it's best if you feed it before it gets too be 2 years old.

Good explanation on the bunks. Going to be interesting seeing how the frac tank helps you this fall with manure application. Are you not able to send the runoff from the bunks directly to the lagon? Thank you for today's video.
We could pipe it directly to the lagoon however we like to be able to use it in the barn puts to help with agitation.
I've seen those same containment tanks at condo construction sights collecting under ground water etc... Do you still have your nice Dodge pick up? I haven't seen it in your vids for a long time. Cheers
Nice job
i dont rember ....man i hauled alotta cattel and hogs back in the late 80s to 2010 stayed up alota in those days
Andy, what do you considered conventional silage? Does the frack tank have landing gear to raise it up?
David Whittredge regular corn would be considered conventional. The Frac tank doesn’t have a way to lift it yet

@@augustreil cut tires
@@FarmingFixingFabricating, So...You'll have to cut them in half or quarters to use them ?
@@augustreil they are cut in half like the ones you see on barrels on the highway
When you split a bunk as you show, How many inches of spoilage do you have to dispose of, and what do you calculate the cost of that to be?

Have you not been approached about covering your manure lagoons to capture the methane
There is a little more to capturing methane than putting a cover over the lagoon.

How come you use sand as bedding rather than sawdust?
