    U.S. Marines and Sailors with Marine Rotational Force - Darwin 24.3 honor Anzac Day alongside Australian Defence Force members and veterans during the 109th commemorative service in honor of Anzac Day in Darwin, NT, Australia, April 25, 2024. Anzac Day marks the landings in Gallipoli of Australian and New Zealand Army Corps soldiers in 1915, and commemorates all Australian personnel who served and died in wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations. MRF-D 24.3 Marines and Sailors showed their support to the Australian Defence Force personnel commemorating Anzac Day through dawn services and other commemorative services.     Their duty was to serve.
    Our duty is to remember them.
    I love the US Forces' involvement. Dad was NZ Artillery, part of NZ units in support of the USMC ops in the PTO.

    My Grandfather spoke highly of the Americans he fought alongside at the Battle of Hamel, July 4 1918.
    Please correct me if I'm wrong, but the only time in US history US troops fought under "foreign command".

      That is correct and they disobeyed orders to do so, as the their Commanding General, John Pershing, had withdrawn permission for the Americans to take part. They fought underr the command of the Australian General Sir John Monash and battle lasted 93 minutes, (Monash had predicted it would take 90 minutes to achieve the objective, the capture of the town of La Hamel. It was the first time in the war that all Australian troops had come together under Australian command.
