Hi Kelly. I am not surprised that your most viewed video in 2024 was a review of a well known classic. I remember a booktuber saying those were the gift that keeps on giving. I know I have frequently sought out review videos on a specific classic or prize winner, usually after I have read the book. The most recent was for the 2024 Pulitzer for Fiction (as in, wtf? does anyone else not care for this book? answer: yes). 🇫🇷
I took so much grief over Night Watch, but I like diverse opinions in the Comments section as I think it makes the whole review more valuable. But it was probably the most thumbs down I've had for a very long time. LOL! So happy you are part of my bookish world and thank you so much for commenting. It is fantastic to hear from you! 💛
I regularly discover it's 3 or 4pm, and realise I haven't had breakfast yet!
I NEVER miss breakfast! But gracious this week was just wild and sadly I expect next week to be even worse! Thanks so much for watching and commenting! 💛
You are so right about the book review videos. My book review of Hello Beautiful is still one of my most viewed videos!
That's great! I'm glad you have a video that keeps giving to your channel. 💛
Happy Friday! I need to reread Gilead and continue on with the series. 😊
I'd love for you to join us! We're taking March off so people can participate in the many events that much, so you're definitely not behind! 💛
Hi Kelly, congratulations for doing so well in 2024 with your channel. Although I’m still not monetized, I’ve been trying harder to keep track of the analytics and all that. My review videos don’t do well at all, but you have given me hope because I do love to do reviews. I guess when you’re passionate about a book you will get likes. I will plan to do more reviews in the coming year if nothing else for me. Aloha friend.❤
Be picky about what you review - I still find review videos so hard! - but sometimes you can really strike a chord and people are looking for more information about that book! Aloha. 💛
I am fairly sure that I was a subscriber before the Les Miserables video but I know for sure that video gave me the kick in the pants to read it finally and I am so thankful I did. 👍👍👍
As am I! So happy I could motivate one person to read that book. What a journey. So glad you are here! 💛
I enjoy discussions of analytics. I should try to do the occasional video where I solely review one book. Ultimately, your channel should be what you want it to be. I think you have a great channel
I think YOU have a great channel! I like talking about analytics too, but so many people watch my channel that don't have a channel of their own. So that's not so interesting for those folks! 💛
I like review videos of books I've read or ones I've never heard of or I'm not interested in, but I will not watch reviews of books that I plan to read. Even if the reviewer says there will be no spoilers, I feel they share more of the story than I prefer to know. I like knowing very little before I read in general and especially with classics. I will go back and look for reviews after I read books sometimes to see what booktubers thought.
Great minds think alike! I only watch review videos of books I have already read! So I really understand why review videos get so few views initially. 💛
Hi Kelly, I am following The Australian open. Unfortunately Djokovic had to walkover due an injury. At this point I hope Jannik Sinner will win the open 😊.
I hope you have a great weekend my friend and happy reading 💛
Charmaine, I heard about Novak when I woke up this morning. I was really surprised as I watched part of his match with Alcaras (sp?). It should be a really exciting final. Have a great weekend and happy reading! 💛
God's nightgown Kelly. Look no further for the reason for your tennis elbow injury. That version of Les Miserables you have is HUGE. But the book review videos are what I personally seek out on booktube, especially if its a book that I kno a i will need to spend a bit of time with, so I need to know if it will be worth the time investment and I think I did pick up Les Miserables because of your review. Have a great weekend Kelly. Go well Kelly.
Actually, I blame Trollope for the tennis elbow as it started at the beginning of 2024 when I read three of his books in three months. Secretly though, I have to wonder if the time you spent with Les Miserables WAS worth it because you have never told me if you liked it or not. Hope you watched the women's final. 💛
I did enjoy it, It was an extra Mammoth that year for me, but I had a very different take on Jean Valjean and Javert's relationship. I still maintain Javert's infatuation with Jean Valjean was more on the romantic side of things but every time I mention this I get flak for it.
The Women's AO final was amazing. Keys played the game of her life. I was disappointed in Sabalenka's reaction in losing. There's no place for smashing racquets. Sure losing can be upsetting but you were beaten on the night by a better player. Better get use to it, there's a new Sheriff in town.😊
@ No flak here! 🇫🇷 I saw footage of the end of the women’s final and was equally shocked by Sabelnka’s reaction. I know she was joking, but tell her own team in her speech that shared them and it was all their fault was appalling to me. This is why we play the game. She had a match point, but her opponent showed heart and never gave up. 💛
Not new, but still waving. 👋
Hi Shelly! Did you get any snow? 💛
@ we did! Several inches which is unheard of for this area.
@@Shellyish That is so crazy!
Happy Friday Kelly
Happy Friday, Gina! 💛
Happy Friday Kelly! I'm still going to catch up on your 2001 video with Jason. 🙂I think you do very good reviews. I would find that too daunting to do book reviews..music is much easier here. My most viewed video overall is from 10 years ago nearly to the day (1/23/15)! Lovely weekend your way as ever. -Carm & furz off napping somewhere
Carm, don't leave me hanging! What was the video! 💛
@@booksimnotreading It's titled 'Edgar Froese'. ☺
My top two most viewed videos of 2024 are both from 2022. 😆 And to be fair, your review of Les Mis was very enjoyable! Maybe someday I'll tackle that brick haha.
What were you two most viewed videos? I'm super curious!
@@booksimnotreading My top 10 Victorian books (which I put up for Victober 2022) and my classics bookshelf tour!

I started Gilead today, I'm surprised at how well I remember it all even though it's been 6 years since I last read it. I feel like single review videos are more for the casual or one-time viewer, I know not doing them means I get fewer views but I don't mind. I like having the same small group of commenters, and whenever I do other types of videos (especially science fiction ones) that get more views that's when you get rude comments and things. That does make me harder to initially find though I suppose.
Aaron, so excited to hear you are re-reading Gilead! I look forward to hearing your thoughts on it. 💛
I noticed that my reviews of individual books didn't seem to get many views early in the life of my channel, but really, it depends on what kind of channel you want to run. My friend Clifford Lee Sargent at Better than Food rarely posts anything but book reviews, and he has more subs than I'll ever have. Go figure, right?
I think classics and prize-winners do the best. But you should do a review of Lonesome Dove when you re-read it this year. People are always reading that book and I bet the review would be a video that will have a long shelf life. 💛
My book reviews typically don't get any comments, though I'm well aware of how the books I usually review aren't the kinds the average person is searching for. I do a lot of nonfiction and older books instead of what's currently trendy, plus all my videos on Beatrice Sparks's poorly-written fake teen journals. Even if I don't get many views or comments, at least I had fun reading the books and making the videos.
Not counting shorts, my most-viewed video of 2024 was my negative review of Albert Goldman's sleazy "biography" The Lives of John Lennon. For some reason, it went viral and attracted a lot of people making nasty personal attacks on me because I dared to say that book is full of inaccuracies, libels, scenes and dialogues made up out of whole cloth, character assassinations, and just outright nastiness not taken seriously by any real music historians and critics, as well as excoriated by 99% of the people who knew John. I of course deleted their comments. It was particularly bizarre and insulting to be called "a Lennon apologist" when I specifically said I originally loved the book at fourteen precisely because it depicted him as so imperfect and not being a perfect choirboy, and that I still admire him because he was so brutally honest about his flaws and mistakes!
Don't let anyone grind you down! 💛
I have seen Victor Hugo paired with Charles Dickens. Do you find them comparable?
Yes, I do! But I have only read one Victor Hugo novel.
I was guessing one of your infamous haircut videos. Wrong!
I do few single book reviews and they dont get many views, but they're more popular than my poetry videos
@@JamesRuchala Sadly, pretty much everything is more popular than poetry videos! 💛
