**Quick note, I mention in the start that I thought both vers of the loco were in this pack. They are not, just the fireball - next variant to follow**

The ring ontop of the exaust stack was a cinder suppression system, it sprays jets of water into the exaust to extinguish hot sparks escaping

These guys are awesome at what they do. Good American steam has been a very lacking thing for Railworks for many years (Yes, Dick Cowan did some alright work for the time, but those are really showing their age now). I loved their early stuff too, when they were doing the south american content with the narrow gauge steam and such. They've come a long way since then.

DSGDDR also has great American engines, and they are freeware to boot

I don't begrudge MR for releasing them separately. I like supporting deserving creators. I bought the "as delivered" variant today and ran it on my B&O Parkersburg Branch and it looked spectacular. I doubt WM H9's ever got that far east into WV but damn it, it's my route, I'll do what I want!! 😆

I hope Machine Rail will keep doing American locomotives! Everything they do is amazing!

For their first shake at a "modern" locomotive, I gotta say they came out swinging, I can't wait to see some of the bigger stuff they have planned.

Absolutely gorgeous machine, and I do adore the whistle. The one thing that does stand out is that the fast chuff sounds seem to top out at 20 mph; no matter how fast you go above that the chuff sounds stay the same. It's not crazy distracting as these big mamas were built for heavy slow freight drags, but once you see it you can't unsee it. Sierra #3 had a very similar problem.
Edit: Hang on a minute! When inside the cab the chuff sounds do speed up over 20 mph, but outside the cab they don't. Me thinks this may be a bug report. Or does it only kick in above 40 mph?

    • @schnauzahpowahz
      @schnauzahpowahz  2 ปีที่แล้ว

They do speed up, i noticed the transition is at about 15mph iirc

Logo Does look really good looking, someone put a lot of Love into this Locomotive as many should get all around. It must be hard or something else to make great looking steam as the steam release looks like smoke here but that's just my opinion. That's interesting so they will build a custom Locomotive if the price is right hmm look out #90 Decapod class 2-10-0 Strasburg Railroad Ex Great Western. Curious way on so many steam loco mods why we never hear the heavy panting when sitting still or steam compressor kicking on and off. Beautiful Cab they really did there research and giving it a Top Star look. That's really nice detail most Steam Locomotives are always missing those 3 levelers in front of the firebox mostly known as foot kickers for opening and closing Vents in the Firebox. I'm sold already really Beautiful Locomotive she is Great Job on showing. Nice Whistle has a Echo to it.

It's a shame it took so long for so many great third party steam devs to start popping up for this sim. Nevertheless, what an awesome model!

First of all, thanks for uploading good TS content!
hmmm... I think the MR steamers are okay, but sadly they lack any kind of advanced engine simulation. It looks like they're using the basic kuju stuff which is fairly simplistic. There's no key for shoveling coal into the firebox (in the manual) for example, and no custom fireman or other scripts. They're not "pro-range" locomotives, if you will. Even the clear creek locos from JL have a custom fireman script that's supposed to take care of coal and water levels. From a steam engine handling perspective, the Smokebox engines are magnitudes better. I paid $14 for the FEF, it got updated with the AI fireman and AI engineer(!!!), tons of systems, dozens of switches and valves, two horns, a non-visual damage model... The 1800s locomotives also offer much more gameplay value. Plus they come with some rolling stock. I hate to say it, but the MR locomotives are boring af to drive. Watch the percentage. Hit the button. Watch the percentage increase. Don't forget to unhit the button. Watch the percentage. Hit the button again. And again. And again.
I've bought the DSP&P Mogul, and I'm not impressed. The model and the textures are beautiful, the sound is good too. But the exhaust smoke is buggy and the manual has exactly 2 pages, one being the front page if I'm not mistaken. I can get a Smokebox locomotive for the same price, offering the aforementioned "advanced engine handling simulation", a proper manual and a good amount of decent rolling stock. (ftmp)
They're good add-ons, I'd just prefer quality over quantity, and MR are doing the opposite. best regards, "that guy" ;P (edit: I almost forgot to mention that I don't like that whistle!)

I personally am not a fan of this pack. Really don’t like the Caledonia Works clicking sound of the rods, it just doesn’t fit. Simulation doesn’t feel quite right either.
This feels like Machine Rail doing the majority of the modeling and CW doing the rest. It’s just not quite right.
I give it a C+, how good it looks basically carrying its score.
