  • The Lagonda 38c is one of an issue of 6 series 38 cars advertised before the start of WW2. The war effort intervened resulting in only 3 actually coming to market before war broke out. The Lagonda was the first of the series 38 to be released after the war ended. The production ran from 1946 until 1955. The early ones were sold without a box.

    David i recently rediscoverd your superb model railway channel, including modelling skills together with great links to additional information that further enhance the learning process. For me it has been a journey of true inspiration, with the UK just beginning to show signs that we are beginning to emerge from the lock down. Your channel has given me such a enjoyable expierence it has filled me with motivation to get re-started on my modelling ambitions, and lift the viel of my depression. Thank you David so much for your inspiratonal video,s i will always treasure them, as they make railway modelling such a real pleasure to behold and fill me with so much joy and inspiration. Eternaly greatful Leonard.

      Hey Leonard there are some very kind things you have said about my channel. I know I have gaps in time when I feel less inclined to work on my railway or my Dinky Toys collection but it is very gratifying when I hear my efforts have had a very positive effect with you. I will certainly be doing more so hopefully it won't be long before I sort myself out and get down to it again. I shall be jolly glad to see the end of the lockdown restrictions - as we all will I am sure. Stay Safe my friend 👍👍👍👍

    Hi David. I think I have just found a new pastime. I am housebound now, but this restoration of dinky toys is something I believe I can do. I have most of the tools, in any case, and I have assembled plastic kits in the past. Spares seem to be available on the 'Bay', so I am all set. I had one of these Lagonda dinkies when was a nipper in the mid-1940s. I might even find one on eBay! This could be a 'life=saver' for me. Thank You .Subscribed and liked. ... Cheers. John in Brum

I have been a plastic modeller since childhood so we have shared interests. Thanks for the subscription, good luck with you restorations - contact me again if I can be of any more help ... David

    The car looks nice! It was very clever using Super-glue, Baby Powder, and Zip Kicker to fix the cracks, I've seen other Diecast Restorers use Super Glue and Baking Soda or Baking Powder and there also JB Weld or Epoxy Putty but you did a good job with what you had the stuff you used helped did the trick and fix up the cracks on the casting.

    • @davidhyde4329
      @davidhyde4329  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Many thanks Nathan, Much appreciated. I don't think it matters too much what you use as a filler. I always used the talc/superglue mix in my plastic modelling days - I also use epoxy putty but feel more confident that the stickier mix will bond to the metal more permanently - but I may be wrong about this. There are always different ways to do things - I just use the one I feel more confident with ... David

      Hi Ralph - having a problem myself. Your question prompted me to check availability (I still have some left) and was surprised to find I can't locate a source myself anymore. I have searched ebay for my original purchase - from a company in the Midlands called Chemclean19. I have emailed them enquiring about the product availability. If there is a problem I will change my next video and explain. Before this I used the B&Q stripper (cheap but effective - if a little slow) called Diall. Anyway I will contact you again in this place if/when I hear from Chemclean19 - Thanks for flagging this up - I might have to source another eco paint stripper 😒😒😒 ... David

    Excellent work. I well remember that model. Question: Why do you paint over your support rig along with it's crocodile clips ? There are ways to do that with wire etc. Do you have a source for the undertray rivets ?

    • @davidhyde4329
      @davidhyde4329  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Many thanks Nic. Appreciate your very kind comment. Never crossed my mind, It is quick and easy just to clip directly to the rivet posts in the casting. Can't do any harm and I can alter the angle quickly if needed. Yes, just answered a question on the baseplate or undertray rivets. Just go to Ebay - or do a Google search on Dinky parts. I use ebay as its quick and many suppliers of repro parts have shops on ebay - hope this helps - Happy New Year ... David

    Another great video! I note that you mention using warm or hot water in the ultrasonic cleaner. My wife and I bought one a few days ago, and the instructions suggest plain cold water. We used plain cold water for the first test on some spoons, then cold water with fairy liquid, which helped. The next exercise will be with warm! It's a very useful tool, and I would recommend it. Keep up the good work!

Can't even remember using cold water - my guess is that it probably makes no difference as the cleaning is done by high frequency agitation. Anyway, interesting to hear your findings - I think it is a useful tool to have. Happy New Year to you and your wife ... David

    • @davidhyde4329
      @davidhyde4329  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Mark - I could find no references that supported it being blue. The baseplate had not been removed so the evidence is that it was clearly blue - there were odd colour variations as the process was very labour intensive. It could have been a colour from a previous model that was used up so as not to waste paint - it happened - who knows. I decided to go with the green as I needed a 'correct' matching colour for the seats and wheels. Bit of a wimpish decision I suppose. Thanks for the comment - Happy New Year ... David

    it didn't have 4 differing paint schemes , you drilled the rivets open therefore they couldn't have painted inside the chemicals acted with the paint and changed its coloour

    • @davidhyde4329
      @davidhyde4329  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Very good point - except the the difference between the green and blue was dramatic - why did only part of the original green turn blue (or even bluish)?. It definitely looked like a seperate layer of blue paint. I think I go along with the theory that a batch of cars were sprayed with the wrong colour on the underside - the error was spotted and the cars were resprayed - which would explain why there was no blue, or chemical reaction with the green, on the outside. Intriguing though. I agree that the car did not have 4 paint schemes 👍👍 ... David

    I have watched a few of your Dinky restorations, and whilst they are really good, I do believe that you should pay the same attention to detail regarding the base of these models...It's only half done as compared to other dinky/corgi restores on youtube. If it's for your own collection and your not selling these, then that is fine. I wouldn't purchase a model without a full restorationof the base, as this would make me suspicious of the authenticity of the restoration, and the worked carried out...
