This was the very first video of any phone review I saw and it really pushed me into becoming a MAJOR phone nerd. I know so much about them now all because this persuaded me. I have really grown to like Noah and phonedog, however, since his departure from phonedog I'm not very enthusiastic about visiting phonedog anymore knowing he isn't there. Good luck wherever u went Noah. Peace..
Like the iPhone's. But it has a small vibration when you touch buttons so you get more of a tactile and more comfortable response. In sense, it doesn't make you feel like you're randomly tapping glass. It also has a little give to it so it is much better feeling to type on.
from everything i've read and seen, people have said that the touchscreen matches up really close with the iphone. it's suppose to be made of glass like the iphone so it should feel nice.
Ordered mine last night. Big step up for me from my Sprint, Samsung, flip phone. I've never been an apple fan boy, but was so close to buying the Iphone instead. I hope I made the right decision.
@ freshtendrills - About the no data plan question : I want a Droid to use as a compact computing device and not a phone. Unfortunately, finding a good, massed-produced (not custom and expensive) computing device that has decent specs, does not have ridiculous development restrictions and is not a smartphone is almost impossible. The next best thing is to get something like the Droid and try to get out of paying for services you don't need. As for the first and last points you make, I agree.
yes you can that have alot of different wallpapers that u can change it to. like real live webcams around the world and stuff. there is all of stuff that you can customize to your own pesonal need.
Cody8005 Yes you can use iTunes and your iTunes Library with this phone. All you do is copy and paste your songs onto the 16gb card that comes with the phone and there you go!
give it a chance its about to come out plus iphone has been here for quite a while so it has a lot of apps. im sure ones the droid has settled it will have alot of contents and updates!
u mean 30$ extra for a data plan? u dont NEED it espcialy if u are at a place with wifi alot, and if u get a texting plan, u can still use instant mesenging etc np
im sorry u feel that way, i used to have ATT and i got no coverage anywhere, i switched to verizon and i always have a signal. it probably depends where you live
I think it is a disaster for any new touch phone not to come out with Multitouch. That is what makes the I phone so cool among other things. I have a Blackberry Storm and love Sure Press but do not understand why multitouch is not included on the Storm 2.
ran across one of these phones on Craigslist and came to watch this video....4 years after phone was released....and yet we still get the same thing in the box....charger and usb plug....MAY get headphones, but the rest is the same LOL
completely different class of phones. Droid is a high end smarthphone, the rouge is only a feature phone. The rouge is good for messaging and calling but if you want apps, web browsing and GPS nav, go droid. That being said the droid will cost you and extra $30 a month for the required data plan where the rouge will not. Hope that helps
There are options to change your Myspace and TH-cam emails. And when I switched from Yahoo to Gmail a couple months back, all I had to do was select a button that said I had a different email accout, and I wanted my stuff moved from Yahoo to Gmail, and then out in my Yahoo username and password. There will be directions on how to do it.
I would be glad to if you could point me to one that has a 3.5" capacitive multi-touch touch-screen without all sorts of buttons and things around the bezel, has some grunt and the SDK for it is not buttoned down under ridiculous restrictions. Any ideas?
That little green LED, is going to blink when getting a new email (saw that on another video) But does it also gonna blink when getting a text message / a missed call or a missed agendatask? Please reply to this comment so I will get a notification in my inbox! Thanks in advance!
The HTC Touch Pro2 or Motorola Droid? Both are for Verizon. Can you guys compare the pros and cons and give your opinions about which one is better (I know the droid wasn't released yet) I haven't had a new phone in 3 years so I don't know what to look for and don't know which is the better deal, and which has better specs and all that.
I actually prefer a copperish-gold lining than a silver one. Just my personal preference. Ehhh....I still got my eye on the HTC HD2 (HTC Leo). I really hope that phone is for Verizon also....
i just got this phone last night and its pretty amazing! i highly recommend this phone, its not the cheapest phone out there, but its definitely worth the money! and i think that its a VERY close competitor to the iphone 3gs
Yeah, this phone will be replacing my Voyager as well. Only negative on this phone (and every other VZW phone) is no Mobile TV. Glad I didn't jump at the enV Touch when it came out.
This was my 1st android phone coming from the iphone 3g and i was amazed by how open android os was/is compared to ios. This phone got me hooked on android and ive been an android since. Would like to get another just to have for memory sake although it drastically pales in comparison to todays android phones especially my g2 that i have now, but still.... just seen 1 on amazon for 83 bucks.
i know that this can't beat iphone but what's so good about this is that 1) it brought android to verizon 2) it brought tight features this is enough of a foundation to begin a serious competition between android os and iphone os
you obviously haven't looked at other phones other than an iPhone because this looks more like some MP3 player interfaces than it does the iPhone. Creative Labs, Samsung (even their phones have this type of interface) and some other companies have this look. This does not mirror iPhone at all.
I'm so glad this phone came out when it did because my 2 year contract for Verizon ends next August. So maybe by the time my contract is up, this phone will be decently cheap. Until then, I'm stuck with the LG VX9400.
But if you don't have the coverage area, then how are you going to access the ATT 3G service in the first place. There have been numerous complaints about ATT regarding this.
i have used storm and it is very slow.. this fone is way ahead of the phones available right now in the market.. this kicks ass.. u wont be disappointed..
@surajmehtaw Most electronic stores have it. Also you could just go to your local Verizon store. When you buy it you have to get a $30 unlimited data plan with it. From what I hear it should cost around like $80 a month depending on your plan
Cant decide between 3gs or waite on the Droid. From what I have gathered (so far), kinda leaning toward the iphone. Seen android on other phones and not that impressed. Maybe this one will be better.
How's the battery life? I just got the HTC Imagia and I get about 8 hrs with 2 or 3 short calls and a couple of text messages. Will the droid beat that? I might trade it in.....
@surajmehtaw you can get it at a verizion store, almost any place that sells verizion phones, and online. and yes you pay monthly for the phone. my dad pays for my phone bills cause well, im 13 but i have the droid and i think it is about 45$ a month for it.
Oh sorry I mean the sticker on the back of the sliding screen, when I slide the phone open there is a sticker on the back and I dont really know if i should take it off or not
If only this phone had a better keyboard, that would make it A LOT better. I'm just glad they included the on screen keyboard. It's physical keyboard is still usable, it's just to fun to use.
The video camera used on this video is loaded flat on a glass table. The guy doing the review doing the hands-on underneath the glass table. Am I right?
Id love to get the droid but the cost of ownership is crazy with verizon.. I mean im on sprint and my plan is 59.00 and it includes unlimited everything with 500 mins but the catch is with the new plan sprint came out with i get to talk to any cell phone carrier free. So with everyone replacing home phones with cell phones my mins are basically free. Over 24 mo with verison thats about 1500 dollars or more over the life of a contract.. the cheapest unl. plan w/ voice data and text is 149 OUCH!
it looks great i should have gotten it but i personally love my iphone 3gs plus i could customize it b/c its jailbroken but great video phonedog love your vids man!
agentx3, I would like to get the iPhone, I have an iPod Touch and love it and all the apps. But do not want to switch to AT&T to get it. I will just have to get the Droid or wait until Verizon gets the iPhone.
why is it that everyone is saying if it's better than or worse than the iphone already? Just wait for it to come out and try it out then make your opinion.
CONS: NO auto call pickup feature, NO phone conversation recording NO voice command with blue tooth. The keypad is not good if you have medium or large fingers. because it is practically flat, your finger will hit 2 keys at once, I am constantly having to correct some spelling. I've had mine for about a week and generally I like it, but don't find it all that amazing. Unlocking is tedious and difficult when driving. Samsung moment ruled but sprint service was no good where I live.
Can you sync the Droid to itunes to get music & videos on it? If not, what media playing software do you have to download onto your computer to sync music & videos onto the Droid?
Hello, I was planning to buy the new Motorola DROID but i had a small question. If i were to get the Select plan would i still be paying just to access apps like twitter myspace and facebook. because i see that there is a charge per MB but does that include using the apps or just the mobile web?
i heard this may also be going to tmobile but don't know when, i really do hope so, cos verizon and their cdma are just ridiculous, only works in the us and that sucks.
Still miss Noah. I remember watching this a longtime ago and then being able to buy it.
Peace..
I remember when these used to be the shit
The reason people loved the og Droid the most is because it was stock Android with an unlocked bootloader. It brought extended life to the device.
@MicroLight15
it means they put it in at the factory. Its removeable. too. :) its just a 16gb micro sd they put in for you. For convineience purposes!
It's a software thing. They say multitouch is already supported by the keyboard, so it's just a matter of updating other programs to use it.
Like the iPhone's. But it has a small vibration when you touch buttons so you get more of a tactile and more comfortable response. In sense, it doesn't make you feel like you're randomly tapping glass. It also has a little give to it so it is much better feeling to type on.
In europe it's called the motorola milestone. But it is yet to be released. I have no idea when.
from everything i've read and seen,
people have said that the touchscreen matches up really close with the iphone.
it's suppose to be made of glass like the iphone so it should feel nice.
Droid does not have Flash right now, but it does have a plug-in for when Flash 10 becomes available.
I was feeling nostalgic about phones I used to have :)
I love my Droid 1. still have and use it. never gonna let it go
I love the droid phones. Recently ordered a Droid 1 just for now and looking at the newer Droids as we speak.
no, the droid 3 does. I'm getting a Droid 3 for Page Plus in a few weeks :)
a) noah ur a legend
b) this better come too the uk
c) 2.0 coming to here :)
which do u think is better?
Default browser does not support Multi-touch, but some free browsers in the Market place do. Download one of them and good to go.
Ordered mine last night. Big step up for me from my Sprint, Samsung, flip phone. I've never been an apple fan boy, but was so close to buying the Iphone instead. I hope I made the right decision.

You have a long time, you dont need to be deciding yet. There will be a handful of more phones by then. Mine is in June to replace my Env Touch.
HTC announced 2.0 update soon for the Hero, they need to make Sense UI fit with 2.0 first, maybe take a few weeks.
yes you can that have alot of different wallpapers that u can change it to. like real live webcams around the world and stuff. there is all of stuff that you can customize to your own pesonal need.

I'm thinking about getting one but it'll take a little time for me to get use to it after owning the iphone since it came out.
Such a nice phone...
I'm torn between this and the BlackBerry Bold 9650 that's supposed to come to Verizon very soon.
u mean 30$ extra for a data plan? u dont NEED it espcialy if u are at a place with wifi alot, and if u get a texting plan, u can still use instant mesenging etc np
your data is stored with a google account on the internet and can be put on other android powered phones.
Nice review. I'm thinking I am going to switch from my iPhone to this. The 3G service is the deal breaker for me. AT&T doesn't have one in my area.
Vintage. Still have mine and it's in pristine condition. Feels solid; as though machined from a billet of some exotic alloy.
great review mate first video I found when wanting more info on the Droid.
not for long, i have both and am seeing an increase on the droid
im sorry u feel that way, i used to have ATT and i got no coverage anywhere, i switched to verizon and i always have a signal.
it probably depends where you live
The moto droid is awesome, I've had mine since christmas. I also got a base that makes the droid a media center.
Will this phone be available in Canada? any time soon?
Not sure if I'm following this argument but perhaps the original point was that the Droid is the only device currently running android 2.0?
I agree somewhat agree with what you're saying, but what can you say to explain Android's commercials directed towards iPhone?
hey man i have watched many of your videos and it makes me wonder what do you do with all those phones after you are done with the unboxing videos?
Does the data plan not come as part of the monthly price?. Thats how they do it here in the UK on most smart phones.
I think it is a disaster for any new touch phone not to come out with Multitouch. That is what makes the I phone so cool among other things. I have a Blackberry Storm and love Sure Press but do not understand why multitouch is not included on the Storm 2.
Getting one in about three weeks. VERY excited!
ran across one of these phones on Craigslist and came to watch this video....4 years after phone was released....and yet we still get the same thing in the box....charger and usb plug....MAY get headphones, but the rest is the same LOL
Really cool phone! do you know if it comes to Denmark? and what the price is?

no you can run it off of the phone signal it's faster with wi-fi though

Is it coming to Canada? Perhaps on Rogers?
The HTC Touch Pro2 or Motorola Droid?

I haven't had a new phone in 3 years so I don't know what to look for and don't know which is the better deal, and which has better specs and all that.
The iPhone cant internet tether unless you jailbreak it. As for the droid I dont think that info has been released but I want to know as well
What did the new software update 2.1 do other than change the gallery and add a couple new google apps?
I actually prefer a copperish-gold lining than a silver one. Just my personal preference.
Ehhh....I still got my eye on the HTC HD2 (HTC Leo). I really hope that phone is for Verizon also....

it has multitouch. just moto didnt customize it to include it.
not 100% but the htc hero had flash built in so I would assume this one would as well.
ah, they have patented only one version of multitouch, There are many more and MS has patents to them too...
not that ive heard of but why not just get a hero or the other one with the keyboard?
Quick Question. Can u change the background with one of our pictures that we take or no for this phone?
@unboxingbros yeah old multi media phones dont blackberrys and some androids do
The video camera used on this video is loaded flat on a glass table. The guy doing the review doing the hands-on underneath the glass table. Am I right?
ive been out of touch of the latest phones lately.... has anything beaten the itouch yet???
Id love to get the droid but the cost of ownership is crazy with verizon.. how much you wanna bet in a year there is going to be a droid 2? (it'll just be slimer/fastert)
But is that still a major Difference then thre oter firmware. Like Apples firmware hardly even changes. its still Android
hey Phonedog what kind of program did U use for your Video :)
Google hit a home run with the Android software. Solid and the fact that it's open source, throws the cherry on top.
it does there is a video on youtube that show pinch zoom in the browser from tinhte, do a search.
it looks great i should have gotten it
but i personally love my iphone 3gs
plus i could customize it b/c its jailbroken
but great video phonedog love your vids man!
I remember how simple rooting and ROMs and kernels were. Those were the days. Nothing is that easy anymore.
agentx3,
I would like to get the iPhone, I have an iPod Touch and love it and all the apps. But do not want to switch to AT&T to get it. I will just have to get the Droid or wait until Verizon gets the iPhone.

@PandaLuvrz
You dont have to put pressure on it.
I think you are just exagerating...
Hello, I was planning to buy the new Motorola DROID but i had a small question. If i were to get the Select plan would i still be paying just to access apps like twitter myspace and facebook. because i see that there is a charge per MB but does that include using the apps or just the mobile web?
is this thing full touch screen? i mean, can you touch the link to the website in google instead of using that thumb buttin like he did in the video?
I bet the next iphone will be pretty suite! I cant wait for it to come out.
how much is the monthly plan going to be for this phone?
and how much will it cost without the contract plan?
i heard this may also be going to tmobile but don't know when, i really do hope so, cos verizon and their cdma are just ridiculous, only works in the us and that sucks.
The droid is gonna be awesome.
BTW, Anyone have an idea when the HTC HD2 is coming out?
how is the video playback for movies u put on the droid? is that also all tiny becuz the screen is so high res?
@MrRubiksTutorial its the same capacitive touch screen
