I said 3 years ago when I posted this video that I didn't want to spark confrontation. Perhaps that is why I didn't read the comments until now. Most of which are lovely thank you. I feel the need to point out that I am fully aware that Canada, Norway and India are not in the EU and I was fully aware of that at the time of writing this song.
The lyrics are attempting to capture the feeling that I wanted to escape a country that so rashly made a decision I felt was the wrong one, a country governed by misleading elitists, a country I feel so disconnected to and sometimes ashamed of. The song is about escaping to anywhere other than my home country, hence the mention of countries outside the EU. Why did I feel this way? Because of WHY the EU was created in the first place - to promote peace, establish a unified economic and monetary system, promote inclusion and combat discrimination, break down barriers to trade and borders, encourage technological and scientific developments, champion environmental protection, and, among others, promote goals like a competitive global market and social progress. Thats why I care about it.

How could anyone get upset with such a beautifully crafted and performed song?... I must have listened to this a dozen times now, and more to follow. I'm glad that my geekiness for acoustic guitars made me discover your Fylde video, and from there your other videos and albums... I'm hooked!

I would like to cover your beautiful song if that's ok. Do you mind if I ask what tuning you're using?

Beautiful voice and guitar as always... sad song, sad situation for your beautiful country and the rest of Europe as well... but you and Coco and Rosie (and Vincent :) )will always find open hearts and ears in your fans, places where nationalitiy isn't an issue...

Beautiful song. The genuinely tragic thing for me, as a Brexiter, is how heartfelt this is, and it is quite moving, even as someone on the other side of the debate.
I appreciate the 'not intended to spark any confrontation' comment, so, in the spirit of that, let me try to cheer you up.
The thing is, you appear to be conflating the EU with Europe. To be fair to you, it's a common conflation. Interestingly too, you sang about moving to Canada, Norway, or India: none of which are in the EU.
I feel no less European than I did before the Brexit vote. I studied languages, and lived and worked abroad, including time spent studying politics (yes, including the EU) in Germany. I love Europe, but intensely dislike and distrust the EU. The EU only represents a set of supranational, remote, and unaccountable institutions. It does not represent the continent of Europe or the European people, or of my feeling of like and love for my European friends and all that Europe (not the EU) has given the world culturally and scientifically.
And you are no more removed from any feelings you may have towards Europe and European friends, just because of Brexit. So enjoy your trips to the European mainland (I always make a point of calling it that, because the UK is and will always remain part of Europe), as I intend to do. :-)
    With sincere best wishes.
    A fellow European.

    Wow 💛💜✌
My friend and fellow musician findlay shared this video on Facebook - normally I don't listen to music but because it was titled about Brexit I was curious.
It was excellently played and sung and nice melodies and lyrics ....
As per usual with excellence like this I am (palm to forehead) asking youtubers how can this song have so few likes and looks/listens!
In real life you should be passed around stages and streets and PAID very well - so that at the very least you can afford your home!
Gentrification and capitalistic societal mindsets are destroying unity on earth but it's hard minded and soft spirited musicians that can counter these attacks on progressive healthy societies.
I'm typing as I go....not triple thinking what I'm writing- hope it's making some sense haha sometimes....
I would love a borderless world with robotic cameras (1984) in the sky (2020) BUT which praise and pay the do Gooders (like yourself)
I believe we are "around the corner" from stopping "capitalism" (gone wrong ) - subtle slavery- Gentrification and the general raping of all good things and all important natural nature things that maintain the hu"man" race!
Oh ooops- I might be overwriting - I keep forgetting that most online don't read more than 2 sentences especially if it's intricate wise dribble haha
Again that's where music is a perfect language - all my sentiments here of the state we are in as a world community can be summed up in a 3 minute song- thanks for sharing on youtube and I wish you all the best for a career in music and storytelling through singing voice!
    😉😊😎
We are all one but we are not the same
All for one and one for all
It takes one drop to start a waterfall
Peace be with us all always and / or eventually
    💛💜✌

Yes - odd that a couple of the countries you mention - Canada, Norway, India - aren't IN the EU! Nothing unrecognisable about the UK since the referendum - except for the amazing upsurge of refusnicks bent on overturning the result! Never before seen in my lifetime. Very unBritish! Nice trad old-fashioned folk music, though.

Upsurge of refusenicks aka nearly half the population.

    • @TomTrust
      @TomTrust 4 ปีที่แล้ว

@@meganhenwood Well, most remain voters will have been disappointed, nearly half of those that voted. Non-voters presumably didn't care either way. But I know some remain voters who feel embarrassed by the high profile Remainers who have actively worked to get the result overturned. There were lots of people who voted remain who also believe in democracy; so I don't think it is accurate to suggest that the "upsurge of refuseniks" number "nearly half the population".
