I actually love this version of Harley Quinn. Her old origin story was a combination of both her own choice and the manipulation of Joker. When it finally hit her that he never loved or cared for her, she decides to rewrite her origin, away from Joker. She could have gone back to Harleen Quinzel, the society’s version of herself that she’s kept up for years. But she didn’t and continued on being Harley Quinn because deep down, that’s who she truly is. She will not conform to society’s standards nor will she go back to Joker’s. Harley will go by her own which she has denied herself for so long.
For real? Her whole backstory is, what gave her a huge character arc and made her development interesting in the first place. An abuse victim that rised and shined over its abuser? It's the perfect role model for thousands of abused people out there and they took that backstory and ERAZED it. Why?! There is no reason to! She should have owned her past, accept it, learn from it, grow from it - like you're supposed to. That shows way greater strength then make her rewrite her whole past because she didn't like the reality (and she should know this if she got anything left of a psychiatrist in her). She needed the Joker back then, that's where she was coming from. She learned it was a bad idea (shocker) but despite, or maybe because this mistake she grew into this likeable character. And she feels relatable exactly BECAUSE she doesn't have a perfect life with perfectly fine decisions! Making her push away her past again, takes away her whole arc and growth to this point. She's not overcoming the truth, she's alternating it! It's not impressive to imagine yourself a nice past and fantasize about beating up your ex. It would've been way more impressive if she owned this whole bad decision and realized it's her back story, long gone but still part of who she was and what made her into what she is now.
@@megalodon4586 She did not erase the fact that she was the one to make that decision, she just decided that her backstory was not her jumping in the acid, since back then she was basically just a pawn, she decided that her true origin story started when she broke free of the Joker's abuse and actually made her own choices fully.

Yes, the show isn't actually trying to literally rewrite her origin story. It's basically just symbolism for Harley moving on and becoming her own person apart from what the Joker made her to be
Okey, no. She is a consecuence of the Joker, But not his creation. Harley Quinn was inside her all along, Joker only pushed that part of her, But it was there since the beggining (i mean, it's hinted she murder someone before Joker)
The hell do you mean find yourself, your right here. Look in the mirror! There you are! If you wanna find yourself you dont have to look very far! This is you!
Actually the thing ab her changing her origin story can be correct. That was her origin story for her actual self, for her more independent self, and in another time he was her origin story. Past and present can coexist even if you have changed your present. He is still part of her story, but her new (and truest!!) version was originated by herself being independent and learning to leave an abusive relationship!
Although the Joker had played a significant role in Harley's origin story and that he and Harley are considered to be an iconic supervillain duo, this TV series (and even looking back at previous Batman media with Joker and Harley) had definitely opened my eyes about the truth of the relationship between Joker and Harley as this TV show also does a magnificent job about handling the topics of toxic relationships and standing up for yourself.
Harley faces the reality and owns up to her mistakes. Far more mature than Joker, who doesn't even have the guts to talk about his past without making stuff up (no, "The Killing Joke" is not canon, even Alan Moore said it wasn't meant to be canon) and just used her as a punching bag and a human shield. She realized what she did and decided to take her life back, just as she decided to drop in the acid vat. That is the point of the scene, not "oooh, they are raping her origin story". I'd like to remind you that Harley Quinn was made for Batman TAS and she was put in the comics after that. There is no acid bath for her: she willingly entered a novelty shop, stole her costume and gear, then went to Arkham to break Joker out of his cell, greeting him with "Knock knock, puddin'! Say hello to your New and Improved Harley Quinn!" (Ep. 21 of The New Batman Adventures, "Mad Love") Even Rocksteady repeated the dynamic step by step in "Arkham Asylum" with Harley's interview tape. The acid bath is bullshit made up for "Suicide Squad", just like Joker being the guy who killed Bruce's parents in the 1989 movie. I'd like to believe that, in this series, they are mocking that stupid scene with this episode. The fun of comics is that they are not historical events to put your trust on, but shapeshifting stories that sometimes contradict themselves. Like Mad Max: four movies and two of them changed Max's story timeline and events, yet they are masterpieces on their own (okay, maybe Beyond the Thunderdome wasn't, but still). But if you really insist on being a contrarian, quote the Joker from TKJ: "If I'm going to have a past, I prefer it to be multiple choice!"
Her first origin story was she was the Joker’s doctor who ended up falling for him the more they interacted. Seeing him as Batman’s victim instead of a villain she decided to don the jester persona and used the alias he made up as a joke to break the Joker out of Arkham and begin her life of crime.
I am so convinced that her Harleen Quinzel persona developed a deep hatred towards Joker over how he treated Harley in their most vulnerable and impressionable parts of their life.
1. transformation.: Becoming a doctor - Broke free of the abusive parental house's chains 2. transformation.: Fall in a chemicalvat - Broke free of the legal, "modern" sociaty's chains 3. transformation.: Break free of Joker - Broke free of Gotham's supervillain-clisé's chains 4. transformation.: Get serious with Ivy - Broke free of her co-dependency issues' chains
First watching this scene, I didn't get it. I thought what Joker thought. She can't change her past, her origin story. But here's how I see it three years later. Harley tells Joker how she views her story and its actually true. Her true origin story started when she left him. Before that, she was just the Joker's sidekick. Her real origin begins here. She's right.
I still believe the acid jump scene in suicide squad was a bit more tragic and weirdly romantic that it was represented here. There Joke was actually gonna let her there.
No. It was the Joker who created her. He was the one who broke her psyche, put his vision of the world into her head, and threw it into acid. In the series, the canon was changed to give more confidence to Harley.

Is like that scene on the witcher
Framed* for that, she didn’t actually
She did make herself, but she was also practically created by the Joker.
Yeah she wouldn’t have gone to the path of actually becoming a independent super villain if it wasn’t for a supervillain
Yes, the show isn't actually trying to literally rewrite her origin story. It's basically just symbolism for Harley moving on and becoming her own person apart from what the Joker made her to be
@@jubusch she probably still would be cause she was already friends with ivy before joker
Okey, no. She is a consecuence of the Joker, But not his creation. Harley Quinn was inside her all along, Joker only pushed that part of her, But it was there since the beggining (i mean, it's hinted she murder someone before Joker)
This show is amazing like perfect for a inappropriate show that is not for kids this time.
But this is running the original story
Nightwing Shadow95 No that’s not the point
Sometimes it's okay to make a cartoon not appropriate for kids.
b1njjj95 Well obviously you probably don’t like it but we all do and it went really well.
@@Adam88899 What are you talking about? 🤨
Can I say that Harley is a badass?!
As someone trying to find herself and struggling this is really inspiring
The hell do you mean find yourself, your right here. Look in the mirror! There you are! If you wanna find yourself you dont have to look very far! This is you!
Greedo Roth I mean identity wise. Unless that is what you mean with the mirror thing
@@CassieJadeCelosia it was a joke from a comedy show by maniscalco, I thought it was funny so I used it.
Greedo Roth Ah I see. So hard to tell that kind of stuff in text. Also never heard of that
@@CassieJadeCelosia check him out, he's a funny guy
Best therapy ever!
"I lost my virginity to a horse" 😂😂
Actually the thing ab her changing her origin story can be correct. That was her origin story for her actual self, for her more independent self, and in another time he was her origin story. Past and present can coexist even if you have changed your present. He is still part of her story, but her new (and truest!!) version was originated by herself being independent and learning to leave an abusive relationship!
For those saying that the other one was her actual origin story (sorry, not too good at english lol).
"I Made myself"
GIRL! I KNOW THATS RIGHT! ❤
I also loved that line when she called him an idiot :) Powerful woman 💪🏻💖
@@oavideos6798 Yess!!
Is it though? Is it really?
21 of The New Batman Adventures, "Mad Love")
Even Rocksteady repeated the dynamic step by step in "Arkham Asylum" with Harley's interview tape.
This is my favorite scene so far
Bad ass as always. Love this cartoon
0:30 you will never see abusers acknowledge this, only good people acknowledge that they had a choice and that they made it themselves.
When you're having a nightmare but you remember you're a lucid dreamer.
You got Harley Quinn out of harleen quinzel? Nice work GENIUS
Agora sim. Como não amar a Arlequina? Eu a amo com todas as veias e artérias do meu coração.
Good reference "Eternal sunshine "
What is that?
@@sunnyrodriguez6274 It's an amazing movie about lovers who decided to erase memories of each other.
@@Jasmina-qd9dl thank you
One of my favorite part In Season 1.
Weird to hear Penny's voice and not have Sheldon interrupting.
I know right?
Her first origin story was she was the Joker’s doctor who ended up falling for him the more they interacted. Seeing him as Batman’s victim instead of a villain she decided to don the jester persona and used the alias he made up as a joke to break the Joker out of Arkham and begin her life of crime.
Joker: You can't change your origin story.
Me: Aren't you the guy who said if he was going to have a past, he'd make it multiple choice?
This is satisfying to watch
If only changing memories was that easy.
I'm glad it's not. People would be even more delusional than they already are!
@@odinsrensen7460 You're right I didn't think like that before.
I am so convinced that her Harleen Quinzel persona developed a deep hatred towards Joker over how he treated Harley in their most vulnerable and impressionable parts of their life.
"Morty, he's right. We're screwed. Quick death, come on."
Joker pointing out it's Harley's origin story was gold
Finally a Harley Quinn that doesn’t feel like some male fantasy
Ugh.
Another day, another slay period
I like how they referenced eternal sunshine lmao
This is incredible... Like harley quinn dc universe forever 😍😍😍♥️♥️♥️♥️
Jessica Sarner must really hate her so she said that she lost her virginity to a HORSE!!!Poor Harley.
So what?
Poor Jessica why did the cops question harley for hours?
No lie when i said that this SASSY Harley Quinn is my favorite. Ya got this gurl

Oh, and also with Bane still on a tiny foldable chair, of course!

“You got “Harley Quinn” out of “Harleen Quinzel”? Nice work, genius!”
Great episode, go Harley
Some how this episode gives off a persona feel.
Joker in her memory: What?? I dint do anything im just your memory why you beat me? XDXD
Nice Work Genius
PERIOD QUEEN
My mind, my rules 👍
From a psychological standpoint, this isn't actually helpful. She's just suppressing her feelings. But it sure is refreshing to watch.
Lol Catherine the great can totally relate to that “lost virginity to a horse” rumor.
"Hard pass" Joker:Ye-ye- what.
GO GIRL!! (Best end) 0:58
This show is great
First watching this scene, I didn't get it. I thought what Joker thought. She can't change her past, her origin story. But here's how I see it three years later. Harley tells Joker how she views her story and its actually true. Her true origin story started when she left him. Before that, she was just the Joker's sidekick. Her real origin begins here. She's right.
This show is really good at getting into the characters' psychology. Having Psycho around to literally put us in their heads is very helpful.
I like this Harley. Is way better than Birds of Prey movie's version.
I still believe the acid jump scene in suicide squad was a bit more tragic and weirdly romantic that it was represented here. There Joke was actually gonna let her there.
Who knew Harley had something in common with Catherine the Great
Harley: I Made Myself 😎
So True 😘😘
No. It was the Joker who created her. He was the one who broke her psyche, put his vision of the world into her head, and threw it into acid. In the series, the canon was changed to give more confidence to Harley.
This is amazing show Harley Quinn is a badass
When Joker got hit in the nuts i felt that and it hurt badly
'But you can't change your origin story' the irony is palpable.
Harley was literally therapying herself
Bottom girl stood up to the abusive pimp
I honestly don't know how I feel about this show. It's does so much, but it never seems to know what it wants.
