I love your track 'Tilt'. I heard it first when you gave it away free in Sound on Sound magazine. Why you gave such a good track away for nothing I don't know but I'm glad you did otherwise I guess I never would've heard it. I bought years and years of that magazine and Tilt is the only music I can really remember from all the issues I bought.
For all those who have a „problem“ with the mirror. We placed it there for the camera otherwise you would only see his back. The mirror is back in the bathroom now so you can chill 🤓
Camera is from behind dude, but you expect to see his face. Than comes the mirror. Than some people get confused watching this strange shoot (me too).. shit happens.
Hey Maceo Plex, what a great selection of jam's, you showed us.. you have a great Ear....I really dig your style .....maybe one day you will come down to New Orleans and play for us......thank you..
every decent dj knows this is what the game is missing. In fact the EPs from people you never heard of (and the cut outs when vinyl was huge) were often miles ahead of the big names that keep getting rotation because of nostalgia and lazy choices.
3 was great, 4 was impressive, and then John Tejada blew them both away... but then I'm an 80s electro kid who got into techno so I'm easily entertained.
Please consider including someone who's not mainly a techno/house DJ, for example someone from the UK (Oneman, Jackmaster DJ Q, J Cush, Ben UFO, Pearson Sound, Loefah etc...) although I must say even though I had no idea who Ellen Allien was and barely knew Maceo Plex I've enjoyed these first two additions to the series very much! Thank you a lot for making these and I hope you'll make many more.
The mirror is there so the camera man could get a good angle on Maceo Plex without him having to turn around.. and cos Maceo likes the way he looks when he's DJing
I don't own the record so I can't really say but the supposed a-side may be on the other side and Maceo went from there because I have a lot of records with this press problem.
I find it really hard to believe the mirror is so we can see his face. Lots of artists in this series have their setups facing a wall and the camera is just placed on the side in profile. Or he could just you know, turn and face the camera when he speaks?
Insane setup, don't or I do like to be his neighboor "sometimes"! About the mirror: I know a lot of DJ who have that because in this level your stage performance is not only demanding on your music and it helps to become more comfortable. Sometimes it's not that easy to stand in front of all these expectant ppl, just think about a school presentation. How you look and act is not the main part on stage but it is a part of it.
Like we wrote already a couple of times, we placed the mirror (originally from the bathroom) in front of him so that we could show at least some "front" shots in the video and not just his back. It's easy like this and for no other reason.
0:50 Can't find this version ANYWHERE... makes me so angry!!!!! And when this sick synth is kickin in Maceo's cheeky smile is like "yes I know sorry mate!"
So, a B-side is the other side of a record, known as the less popular one or whatever, so thus isn't this a little constricting? Perhaps B sides are more commonly dancier or instrumental based, and thus more DJ-friendly, but am I right in saying that someone picking their favourite B sides is different to picking their favourite Music?
Seen from here with inputs going into the top and not the rear it must be the Can Electric Taula 4 www.musictech.net/guides/buyers-guide/best-rotary-mixers-for-djs/ An analogue rotary mixer, I myself own the Condesa Carmen V.
Thanks Maceo! Honoured to be on your list.
My favorite one is from yours, what a tune!
David Morley looked you up on discogs. Do you still make music?
I love your track 'Tilt'. I heard it first when you gave it away free in Sound on Sound magazine. I bought years and years of that magazine and Tilt is the only music I can really remember from all the issues I bought.
Well deserved Mr. M, you're an inspiration and your stuff still sounds fresh
i guess Im kinda off topic but does anybody know of a good site to stream new series online?

For all those who have a „problem“ with the mirror. We placed it there for the camera otherwise you would only see his back. The mirror is back in the bathroom now so you can chill 🤓
this is so obvious i can't even imagine how people do not get it. But hey cheers for sayin it. Keep this awesome videos coming !
This should be the reason but unfortunately there are still many stupid mirror comments.
Camera is from behind dude, but you expect to see his face. Than comes the mirror. Than some people get confused watching this strange shoot (me too).. shit happens.
i actuallylike that mirror. It looks nice. Even if you did that for the shot, who the fuck cares when there is a mirror? I
😂😂😂😂
Thanks for the shout out!
My favorite set of your has at Harvest Fest in Gainesville Fl back in 98 or 99..cant remember. You killed it John...hope your well

I recommend everyone listens to a track of his called 'Tilt'. It's one of my all time favourites.

Those squelching acid sounds on the first and last track are immediately recognizable!
That last track is so good! Actually they all are
love this series!
Awesome! On the big sound system, most of these track would annihilate the crowd.
Dope tracks!
That last record is used by Turntablists for cutting and scratching. I recognise the beat and the bassline.

B-SIDES is a great project! Until now only Maceo and Ellen have done it. I would like to know who comes next. Thanks.
+Enigma who would you like to see?
Do it with Sunil Sharpe or Helena Hauff ! Pick a dj who is playing vinyles !
that's what B-Sides is about
whats is B-sides project about?

Very good set Bsides
First heard that Simulant track early 2000s on Adam Freeland’s Kiss100 breakbeat show. Still sounding fresh to this day.
Legendary session!!
The mirror is there so the camera man could get a good angle on Maceo Plex without him having to turn around.. and cos Maceo likes the way he looks when he's DJing
The first one who got the reason for the mirror. Thanks!
After the shot we brought it back to the bathroom.
Every single one is pretty rare
I have the David Morley record in my collection!
John Howard was an SF legend.
Hardkiss brothers too.
Does he have neighbors with these speakers?
Good choice with the Language Records. Not many people know that label, they brought out some cracking breakbeat/techno tracks.

David Morley - Phased Out is actually on the A Side..
Psssst ;-)
This episode showcases absolutely the best selection of electronic beats on this show so far. All 5 tracks are simply amazing!
whoever has that first track.. upload dat shit
The David Morley track is actually an A Side. But great nonetheless and Coincidentally was released the same year Maceo started to DJ
I don't own the record so I can't really say but the supposed a-side may be on the other side and Maceo went from there because I have a lot of records with this press problem.
I have that Access Future Audio record - was a random find years ago which quickly became one of my favourite electro releases.
0:43 Where can I hear the full thing???
I want all these records played at my funeral
John Tejada born to produce electro
Karol Ryba John T is a legend I agree
I love his IDM album 'Daydreams In Cold Weather'. Very Plaid-esque. A very talented and versatile producer indeed.

Maybe others don’t have a mirror in the bathroom you can easily take from the wall

It is a Taula 4, you can see at 4:33. Makes sense because he lives in Barcelona where the Taula mixers are made.
Some solid mirror work going on here
I was with him in Ku Benidorm :-) nice guy.
Is it my old eyes or the second vynil is transparent? Translucid?! Call it whatever you want...but IS IT?
Yep it is, it's awesome! really great record too.
you should try a vynil from "Eastenerz" then. i think they make them all trasparent.. pretty good tunes also
Rare.
Simulant is just covering Kraftwerk.

thanks mate
it's PLX 1000

Perhaps B sides are more commonly dancier or instrumental based, and thus more DJ-friendly, but am I right in saying that someone picking their favourite B sides is different to picking their favourite Music?
Different yes but that doesn’t mean less good as there are lots of flipside tracks in techno and house which got more popular than the a-side.
In the 90’s the b-side had the more underground sounding tracks or the dub versions of the original. I prefer the b-sides and more underground sound.
Is that a custom-built mixer??
Seen from here with inputs going into the top and not the rear it must be the Can Electric Taula 4
