My impression from all the stories I have heard and books I have read although Elvis was a nice kind talented individual, he was a difficult person to live with.
sorry to disagree : Elvis is too often PORTRAYED as a difficult person. For instance, if Elvis was so difficult to live with, how could Sonny spend so many years with ? Why was he so upset when he's been fired ?
Thank you. This was very enjoyable. You are a fortunate man just to have interviewed these wonderful people and heard the stories they told. We hare so grateful that you would share them with us. When the same person can sing If I Can Dream, It's Now or Never, Crying in the Chapel, Heartbreak Hotel, as well as so many of the other great songs he recorded . . . there is no one better. Yes, i love Motown, love Billie Holiday, Eva Cassidy, Carmen McRae, the opera greats, jazz greats, rock greats . . . but Elvis is Number #1. He was born with it. You can't top that. Anyone who tries to knock him does so out of jealousy. The hacks who can't sing have always been jealous of Elvis. Elvis lives on forever.
People don't realize that priscilla put a lien on Graceland saying Elvis didn't pay her enough money, so Vernon panicked and started firing people. there was never enough money for priscilla
Also Elvis had to sell his royalties from 1954 to 1973 to RCA victor in order to pay off Priscilla and child support because she took him back to court after she was told by friends to sue him for more.
I think she was money hungry from the start and I'm thinking the parents maybe behind it just guessing but now it water over the dam it just makes you wonder?
You know Sonny in his later years seemed so sincere about caring about Elvis. In fact he often teared up saying he miss him every day of his life. Far more soft hearted than Red. Red would cuss and fuss if anybody ask questions.
@@Mary-d5x6g I think you had to be there... So easy to judge... Red and Sonny were protecting the most famous entertainer in the world, and nobody got close enough to hurt Elvis... I can't imagine that kind of pressure...

Great interview! I really enjoyed hearing Sonny's view of things! I dont think they should have written that book, but i do think Sonny really loved Elvis and at the time they were very hurt and angry! Im pretty sure when and if they met in the afterlife that Elvis forgave him and they both realized there was a miscommunication! May he RIP
I really liked this interview. Sonny comes across as being sincere. His explanations are detailed and you can almost visulize yourself being there. A few things stood out for me though. Sonny, at least, IMPLIED that EP was aware that he had a problem abusing his meds. Sonny said that EP was able to quit for a month or two, but would then start up again. This supports what RECCA SMITH, who met EP in 9/74 through Ricky Stanley. She said that, "Elvis also counseled her about the dangers of prescription drugs, saying HE DIDN'T EVER WANT TO CATCH HER TAKING THEM.” A book was written by Forst Tennant entitled "The Strange Medical Saga of Elvis Presley." Dr. Tennant is retired but had been a "practicing physician and researcher in the fields of addiction and pain medicine." He was recruited to help defend Dr. Nick during his trial. He spoke to Dr. Nick specifically about EP's medical history and had privy to assorted medical records. Apparently EP suffered from "COMPLEX MEDICAL ISSUES, SEVERE PAIN, and USE OF DRUGS FOR BOTH MEDICCAL AND ABUSE PURPOSES." Admittedly, I have the book, but have not yet read it, but by flipping through it and hearing what another Commenter said, it appears that even without the abuse, EP had a short life expectancy. The next thing that stood out for me was the MOVIE CONTRACTS. It appears that Sonny, as in Part 1, continues to give Parker a pass. I agree that these contracts were signed in advance and EP had to honor them, but the Parker did NOT have to continue to write them. Again, it did NOT appear that he was interested in pushing to develop EP's "creativity" or "career" nor even seeking out better scripts. He could have asked for script approval. It appears that he always got whatever else he wanted for Elvis. Why not script approval? It appears that Parker was after the easy MONEY and didn't even attempt to "explain a different course of action to his client." What was his motivation to do so. He had gambling debts to pay. Also, I think HAL WALLIS said, that it was NEVER considered that EP be in a higher budget movie (paraphrased). Wallis took the money that he made from EP's films and used it to create great movies with his "A" listed actors. My guess is that Parker and Wallis were in cahoots. Why Sonny and Red and Dave got FIRED, and the writing of "ELVIS, WHAT HAPPENED" appears to boil down to a FAILURE OF COMMUNICATION, VERNON'S UNWILLINGNESS TO PAY THEM the $5000 that EP DIRECTED and REVENGE. I don't think the loss of $5000 would have been enough to make me write a tell-all book about my friend. My understanding is that Sonny finally ADMITTED in a BBC documentary that they wrote the book for "revenge." I'll keep an open mind. Looking forward to Part 3.
Revenge plain and simple even after ALL that Elvis did for these grown ask me at least half of their lives.. just sickening bc they knew that the book was going to hurt Elvis on so many levels.. jealous jerks ALL of them
@@lindaf4369...I hear a tape were Elvis was begin one of them not to publush that book, it was heart breaking, Elvis was not doing well and his voice was sad and could hardly speak. These guys after all were no better than the rest wanting just money from Elvis.
I don’t think it was purely out of revenge! They definitely were super hurt and felt betrayed by Elvis after 20 years of being together it would definitely hurt anyone but I genuinely believe the biggest reason why they did this is because the book was meant to be a wake up call for Elvis. Elvis did some messed up and nasty stuff all mostly because of his drug problem, they tried everything to make Elvis stop or realize his drug problem which resulted in Elvis getting super mad and defensive and aggressive. They wanted to write this book to finally make him realize what he is doing and what is happening to him in the hopes he finally changes. I understand that having a book publicized about your intimate and private life, the worst moments of your life and all your mistakes and shortcomings and be released for everyone to read is extremely hard and a knife in the back, especially for someone like Elvis who was deeply insecure deep inside, always wanted to be perfect, got easily embarrassed and was super shy and always wanted to appear flawless to the world, it was surely a big stomp to his ego. But I think in many ways Elvis just needed that, he couldn’t go through life with all these free passes and not have any consequences for the awful things he did or how terribly he treated people. It was the only way for them to make him finally realize.
I love Sonny too. I am glad he would go on with Elvis. Not many people would do that with Elvis or for Elvis. God bless Sonny for trying to do what he could. I’m still mad at Vernon for not doing what he was supposed to. Elvis told Vernon to give Sonny snd Red 5000 each and tell them he would hire them back in a couple of months or so. 😅but not Dave. True, plus the fact that once in 1973 when Elvis had real Liver problems and was admitted to the hospital, they said he was probably faking it to get drugs. Elvis really had a bad Liver and that's why he bloated and his stomach and face got big. They were kept in the dark about his health, only Charlie, and Larry knew anything about it. Elvis didn't want his health problems to get to his fans.
Man i'm worried about putting 3 back up . lol i felt like shit when it happened . It must have been youtube . You heard how it started on the right one and then stopped . It then went silent . Then # 2 came up. What the hell?
Linda Thompson made hire her friend as Elvis' secretary, her brother as bodyguard. Why is Sonny only putting the blame on Vernon ? As if Elvis' wrong decisions were only coming from his father and the right ones from the girlfriend whose relationship with Elvis was ending in a rather bad way at that time.
Because Vernon Presley refused to rehire them. They them money plus they were assaulting fans. Sonny, Red and the others claimed Elvis wanted to hire them back. Vernon wrote on a letter he was not retiring them.

Great interview. I always thought Sonny and Red were the true friends. It's a shame how things ended. Some say Jerry also but the way he sucked up to Priscilla and pushed her false narrative, after Elvis died, made me think different.
Steroids, especially if your allergic to them can cause extreme anxiety and aggression. His eyes were bad from glaucoma, his body was falling that's why he was being medicated. The meds were hurting him, but he needed them. So sad...
So loyal, he wrote the book that betrayed Elvis the most in the final weeks of his life. Then he spent the rest of his life cashing in on the man who he betrayed most. 🙄

All the scripts were original after Blue Hawai ? He forgets "Follow that dream"/"Stay away Joe"/" Live a little love a little"/"The trouble with girls"; and before Blue Hawai Elvis also had two dramatic roles in: Flaming star / Wild in the country.
@@jkrein82 sorry, I love these movies, so it's always a pitty when they seem to be forgotten among the beach girls movies; by the way I enjoy very much these interviews. Thank you!
I think Sonny was correct. It was a combination of things, but mostly that he and Red spoke out and tried to stop the other (nonprescription) drugs from getting to Elvis. In 2024 we'd say Elvis needed an intervention. He needed a Mayo clinic, for his true medical conditions. He needed a new manager. He needed a fresh start. And on and on. But, this is true for so many other great artists who passed too early with drug problems. We'll never know what it is like to have lived and walked in their shoes. How difficult to watch all of this play out in front of you? Even though many tried, they couldn't actually do much, as either dear friends or family to stop him. They all loved him deeply. He was their world for most of their lives. They were all lost without him and grieved for him many, many years after his passing. As far as the severance pay, I do believe that was Vernon's idea. Did Elvis know? Idk. But, he was shocked, per the Red/Elvis phone conversation, to find they were broke. He was surprised to hear that Sonny had to sell his house. It is what is at this point. What a ride they had, indeed, with a legend. I find Elvis, the inner workings of the group and as individuals fascinating. Maybe others think so as well, since we are still talking about him 47 years after his death. Elvis was a once in a life time phenomenon and human. As Elvis stated, in the recorded phone conversation with Red, 'You do what you've got to do. I knew my part'.
@@jkrein82 I have had the same thought. If you listen to the recording Red West made in late 1976, Elvis mentions his severe intestinal problems and that surgery had been mentioned by physicians, but then not required. It's a short part of that recorded conversation, but you can tell that Elvis was aware he had gastrointestinal problems. My thinking is he had no idea how severe they were.
When Robert Mitchum and Leonhard Bernstein and Streisand and Eli Kazan standing for my door and did ask me for a movie I didn’t think twice but Elvis didn’t think but did ask 50% not even a Parker and they asked Elvis also for the Rainmaker what he also turned down on advice from Parker so I think Elvis did himself but I have also to say Brando did make also some very bad movies every actor make some bad movies and good movies but when these guys coming for a movie you better do it.
The absolute problem in what you write, is that there are not any actual time lines discussed which when revealed along with the reasoning at the time. So no. No one will understand unless they go through each allegation. I don't have the time or interest in doing that right now.😅
Sonny was always good people. Red seemed to have a temper and was a bit of a loose cannon in the younger days, but Sonny always seemed respectful and generally a good guy.
To all of you talking about Elvis Presley like this you ought to be ashamed of you don't care about telling people advice or anything like that all you care about is just making up a bunch of crap just so you can make money off Elvis Presley's name now I remember back to those days and everything okay I would have doctors tell me here you should take this cuz this is better for you to take and if it wasn't trying to get in my pants too what I'm saying to you guys is that we all did something maybe we didn't know what the something was or something that we Elvis was a Southern Man and back then people did not understand what was going on with all this medication and now people are getting the medication cuz the doctors want to give it to you just like to talk to Gabe to Elvis Presley did not what it was all can you understand you guys are making money off of Elvis Presley Elvis Presley trust the well hello back then I didn't know I was taking up person

Sonny talks good, but Idoñ't think he was Elvis friend.
@@jamietrench9062 Yes, he was... These guys were on call 24/7... just imagine that... None of them were millionaires working for Elvis... Grow up...
That picture was not suppose to be there
The pic of Sonny in hospital bed?
@@listerine414 Bless Sonny... It's so heartbreaking to see him that way.... At least he was smiling. He was a Great Story Teller. ❤

@jkrein82 k thanks I seen it after I commented
I’ve always heard and researched “Viva Las Vegas” was Elvis’ biggest and most successful film.
“Blue Hawaii” was his most successful for Hal Wallis. 😊
It was ending because she would have been a common law wife.
I guess 3 had a problem , It started out fine then started playing number 2 . Will have it up tomorrow . I am sorry
Thanks for the explanation. I’ll look for it tomorrow. Your interviews are excellent.
Wow, so much drama between Elvis and the people who worked for him. Elvis kept the drama going, it just shows he loved people.😂😂😂
Where is part 3 ?
Something weird happened ' it started on the right video then it stopped . It then went to Part 2
Darn it these are so interesting I hope the 3rd part can be fixed. Thank you for sharing these 😊
Darn, what happened to the premier ?

@@jkrein82 it’s probably a premier glitch . I always like to upload on “unlisted” then review it then make public when it’s to my standards . We just love hearing any interview . It’s all new to most of us 🥰
Great interview. I always thought Sonny and Red were the true friends. It's a shame how things ended. Some say Jerry also but the way he sucked up to Priscilla and pushed her false narrative, after Elvis died, made me think different.
Love this ❤❤❤
The self-righteous, Sonny West!

Steroids, especially if your allergic to them can cause extreme anxiety and aggression. His eyes were bad from glaucoma, his body was falling that's why he was being medicated. The meds were hurting him, but he needed them. So sad...
Great interview
SO CALLED FANS LISTENING TO THIS --- OMGGGGGGGG
You can see that Sonny West was a true loyal friend he had a good heart.
So loyal, he wrote the book that betrayed Elvis the most in the final weeks of his life. Then he spent the rest of his life cashing in on the man who he betrayed most. 🙄
What did she do with that amount of momey.
UNBELIEVABLE
What happened to part three?! We were ten minutes in and you pulled it!

I didn't notice! What format do you have these on?
All the scripts were original after Blue Hawai ? He forgets "Follow that dream"/"Stay away Joe"/" Live a little love a little"/"The trouble with girls"; and before Blue Hawai Elvis also had two dramatic roles in: Flaming star / Wild in the country.
I was talking about the basic concept .
@@jkrein82 sorry, I love these movies, so it's always a pitty when they seem to be forgotten among the beach girls movies; by the way I enjoy very much these interviews. Thank you!
Awesome. Canada
About a week before Elvis died I was listening to WHBQ radio and it was announced that Evils was broke and was putting up Graceland
I LOVE Sonny and Red they where true friends
After he punch you that should of been it, you should have left and never came back
What happened to part lll ?
Im having problems with it. I will get it up as soon as i can. I will try again tomorrow.. Sorry
I am trying again tomorrow night 12 AM
Think Sonny’s Intentions were Good
Wonder if she put that in her new movie. One of my least people around
How could they have been mystified, after the Elvis, What Happened book?
I was replying to Vicki
Sorry
❤ He died of a heart attack and I Blood Pressure and clogged arteries and didn't get a bathroom for 3 months.
I am surprised they didn't give him a colostomy
@@jkrein82 I have had the same thought. If you listen to the recording Red West made in late 1976, Elvis mentions his severe intestinal problems and that surgery had been mentioned by physicians, but then not required. It's a short part of that recorded conversation, but you can tell that Elvis was aware he had gastrointestinal problems. My thinking is he had no idea how severe they were.
I think hi ego worked against him would never allow a colostomy. I think it may have saved him.@@lindamcpherson8374
@@jkrein82why would ELVIS PRESLEY agree to a colostomy bag?
@@MarianneKitson-zf1bf Well if it would have helped him i think he would have . I know its a hard decision thrust me.
I love Elvis more than the next but he allowed drugs make him a self centered paranoid person who wasn’t a very nice person in the end
He was good looking
Who's sonny talking to
My name is Joe Krein
Vicki you can research a lot if things I imagine. But you won't find anywhere where Priscilla put a loan on Geaceland.
Who isVickie ?
When Robert Mitchum and Leonhard Bernstein and Streisand and Eli Kazan standing for my door and did ask me for a movie I didn’t think twice but Elvis didn’t think but did ask 50% not even a Parker and they asked Elvis also for the Rainmaker what he also turned down on advice from Parker so I think Elvis did himself but I have also to say Brando did make also some very bad movies every actor make some bad movies and good movies but when these guys coming for a movie you better do it.
Is English your second language?!

COMPARING NARCOTICS TO MARY JANE WTH??????? ITS NOT EVEN CLOSE

Why did they expect Elvis to pay for everything ,Vernon was ta king care of his son's finances.
The absolute problem in what you write, is that there are not any actual time lines discussed which when revealed along with the reasoning at the time. So no. No one will understand unless they go through each allegation. I don't have the time or interest in doing that right now.😅
Not sure what you are trying to say
Elvis on his diets consisted of him taking handfuls of Ionamin evey day
They betrayed Elvis. I don’t believe what they say, just like I don’t believe Priscilla, either.
Sonny was always good people. Red seemed to have a temper and was a bit of a loose cannon in the younger days, but Sonny always seemed respectful and generally a good guy.
So you wrote a tell all book right?? Backstabber..
Shit, he never did explain WHY in '61, the reasons or actions of why he thought Elvis "changed".?????
There were parts i had to edit

He has some Smith blood in him that likes to drink and fight

He didnt have the right to fire you guys? Jesus what is that? I have had employees & i fire them.. an employer is not obligated to care for you for life..id have punched DAVES FACE IN FOR HIM...
Right off war on drugs the propaganda script.at least his was practical and applies to every thing.
Sorry but elvis act like chicken coward, red know him from high school when no one want to be friend wirh him,and save his ass 2 times,if you are friend and have respect you catch your friends and speak: look guys this and that? Search for others jobs , refuse to talk to this guys, put his cancer father to do the dirty job, and after as billy smith say: he blame this guys fir betray him because of the book, elvis from one point and after never find someone to put him in his place to tell him: you cant do whatever you like to no one and believe you are ok,
