Who would have thought Road Runner by Jonathan Ricmman would be used in a commercial for CNN show Destination Unknown. This song is almost 50 years old. Any song today have that could last 50 years for a commercial in 2072? Doubt it
@@ScottishTeeVee Maybe I’m wrong but I really doubt it 🤔 We’d certainly never heard of Jonathan Richman all the modern lovers when my brother & I saw that performance & am pretty sure it was Jools Holland who introduced him That’s when my brother and I saw him for the first time and I followed him ever since; been to many gigs -in fact it was my “gateway drug“ as it were! If it was the Whistle test would there be a crowd there..? I don’t think so I’m still sticking to my memory all those years ago of it being the tube😉🤞 (BUT If you have the Whistle test gig I will check it against me dusty memory banks!)
@@BeesWaxMinder I see you found the Whistle Test performance, I saw your comment 🙂 My guess would be that they played the Tube around the same time as The Whistle Test, but I checked the Tube episode guide, which lists all guests, who performed live or were interviewed and Jonathan is not mentioned nor the Modern Lovers, it's a puzzle. Drop Jonathan an email and ask, it's worth a try.
@@ScottishTeeVee If I had his email address I would! I didn’t realise that was the whistle test one you meant 👍 Come to mention it (honestly I’m not just making this up!) I think he was brought in as a last minute thing -it was kind of like a “going live or something over at somewhere“🤷♂️ The plot Thickens…!

J.R. was a poet, his style naive and joyful, in a self depreciating way.
Amazing

Agreed
It was going to be the Massachusetts state song
Jonathan way bigger than Lou Reed, mostly because he's still alive
Nah not even close
the mad head makes me cry
Im not sure if you enjoyed this or not
@@ScottishTeeVee only watched it 10000 times :)
Any chance you have his appearance on the tube doing ‘chewing gum wrapper’?
No I don't have that, in fact I do not even recall it. He was on Whistle Test, doing that song

No but if you look for Jules Holland "now is better than before" it's the best version I have ever heard
This is great! Thanks. Any idea the names of the guys backing him?
No idea, sorry
It's Andy Paley and Brennan Totten.
@@AndrewDoyle1967 Your my hero. Thanks!
If it’s 86 how come it looks like 45?
Fantastic lyrics...Pablo Picasso was never called an asshole,..not like you?
I just love Jonathan and Pablo Picasso is one of my favourites
I walk through the Fenway I have my heart in my hands
Y'know I like it, I like it a lot......I don't know why.
