What do you struggle with the most as a beginner photographer? I would love to know so I can cover those topics! 🥰
Composition. Finding those angles that you wouldn't normally look at just walking by. My photos are alright but I just feel like they could be shot on a phone.
My issue was not being able to get out as much as I want. I learnt so much technical stuff on YT but there's nothing like actually getting out and learning and sometimes it makes me feel like giving up because I don't drive so I can't really get out as much as I want and I don't see my city as interesting as it's a very small city
@Laura BC....One difficulty lies in trying to produce work that stands out as your own...so that it's easily recognized as your style of work, and not just another run-of-the-mill "good" photo.
Big ones for me are self confidence and the ability to fairly critique your own work. I rely heavily on praise and feedback from others because I struggle with figuring out what makes my work good or bad. Obviously to some extent I can judge this for myself… I don’t post photos that I think are bad, but I often will look at a picture I like to some degree and just not know why. And then if someone does give actual critique I sometimes feel like I’m stupid for not seeing something so obvious, or more rarely, feel defensive of my work and question whether the feedback is right or if I was right from the start.
Auto Focus , most of my photos are blurry , no matter how much I try to take a photo professionally . I have a canon 6 d mk 11
I don't know if I can still call myself a beginner), but when I was definitely a beginner, I didn't even think about the fact that I had a bad camera. I had an ordinary family fivewire camera and I was already very happy. I took pictures of everything and everywhere. That's how I came to street photography. Later, just like you, you wanted to take portraits
Hey, Laura! The things I struggle with most as a beginner photographer are: #1) Feeling overwhelmed about what niche to target. #2) Getting lost in the details of finishing the edit of images I've shot...basically knowing when a photo is "finished".
i know i’m not a professional or anything but i’ve gotten better from people giving their opinion, so here mine.
for your #1 just do everything, i never thought taking pics of buildings i’ve seen hundreds of times would be cool but i went to my downtown center and they are some of my favorite pictures ever. and now i love taking photos of buildings it’s what i do now. for the editing i just edit it to my liking and go with my gut, unless obviously it’s for someone else then i’ll l try and get it to what they want best i can, now i don’t know if that’ll help at all but it’s my two cents. have a good one!
Thanks for your input!
Hola Gerald! Feeling overwhelmed about the niche is completely normal. I’ve been there too. 🥰 So best advice is to don’t put pressure on yourself and just shoot whatever you feel like in a particular day. Keep doing that and you’ll end up preferring one more than others. 😍 The editing part is complicated. Just edit till you like how it looks but try to come back to the photo a few days later. Chances are that you may end up changing something again. 😄 I do that a lot
Great advice! 😊
@@LauraBC thank you so much! I’m going to force myself to put this into practice. :-)
Hi Laura! Thank you so much for this video. Very helpful!!
Your videos are always genuine and very inspiring and helpful. 😊
Love you! You always seem to address exactly what I am thinking! ❤
Your videos are pure gold, thank you!
You’re most welcome! 😍 So glad you like them! :)
Thanks for these videos Laura, very inspiring!
I've found myself already following those tips: I started some collaborations with music artists near me and also I started doing product photography because I feel that those nieces are pretty complementary, portrait photography is awesome but sometimes it's hard to setup a shooting, product photography takes time but it's easier to setup and you can do it in the spare time; I also have taken a "vacation" from socials because I want to post content that really matters for my profession; last but not the least, I always have an old X-pro1 with a 35mm with me and it's absolute fun!
Congrats on 76k Followers... I followed since you were under 1k. Superb content presented so well
🥹❤️ Thank you so much Rob! It’s so nice that you’ve been following along since I was a baby channel. I very much appreciate your support and feedback! xx

Laura… Your video are always inspiring and informative. The tips and suggestions will help a beginner on their path on photography. Again, you 🤘🏾another video. Looking forward to next one. Big hugs 💯
Thank you so much Wise! Always trying to give the advice I needed myself when I started. I’m glad you enjoyed this one! 😍❤️
I did get the Vero app I heard about it from you I like it so far thanks.
these tips are gold!
Thank you Bryton! 🙏🏼❤️
wow just wow amazing advice
I like your tip about making a home studio, if budget permits. It's like having a creative play room at home! Instead of always being in work mode with your camera, it gives a safe place to just "play" and love creating art. Awesome video!
I try not to spend too much time on any single photo unless it’s a one of a kind spectacular. Although I’m typically shooting hundreds of photos during a shoot so spending minimal time cleaning up and editing each is crucial to getting them out to clients quickly.
thanks cool video and tips
Very nice >>>>> Thanks .
This is so true hahah Need to have my camera all of the time!! Most definitely!
gracias como siempre a darnos las herramientas para crecer y triunfar 😎
De nada! 😊❤️
Lovely advices!
Thank you Sandra! ❤️ Glad you enjoyed them! 😊
Quite trueful video! Thank you for being able to make this kind of content 🤟🏻 (your time, huge effort and so on)
Fortunately, it didn't take me years for superseding the stroggle of some of them 🙌🏻 and, I especially agree with two, that are quite important: having a Studio @home and Not leaving the gear in a Box/Bag...
Studio?!...It can simply starting with a place with a big Monitor at least to post processing the photos (dream big, start small and act now 😜 ) and, having any type of "camera" at the reach of your fingers, it really matters (especially for not loosing Street Photography compositions - Almost everyday, I enjoy nice City Skyline's sunrise or sunset)
Always a pleasure learning and rethinking things with you, Laura !!! Take care 🙏🏻 See ya, blue skies 🤙🏻🍀📸
You’re most welcome! ❤️ And thank you for sharing your feedback, I’m glad you agree. 😍📸🙏🏼 Loads of love from London!
Awesome video. This really encourage me to get started. I’ve been thinking about photography over and over and all I do is watch videos but not doing anything to get started. I don’t have a camera yet. But I take soooo many pics with my phone and I love taking pictures. Thank you for all your wonderful advice
Thank you! I'm so happy to know that you enjoyed this video! It's great to take photos with the phone. You get to practise and to learn A LOT. So keep it up and definitely pursue this incredible path! 😍 Big love and thanks for watching! 🥰
Hola Laura ! Muchas Gracias por tu contenido tan Bueno me gusta tu explicación y para mi el struggle es con los setting y las luces 😢
Thank you
watching now from Manila ❤ Ph
😍 I hope you enjoyed it!
Amazing!
Thank you Luis! 😊
I changed my username here to match my threads name so you'd know it was me haha! I've been doing photography on and off for 23 years but only this last year did I actually start taking it seriously and learning about it rather than just clicking a button so these videos are still helpful to me!
I agree they are great!
Hahah Yes! So now I recognise you. 😄❤️ It’s amazing to hear that you’re taking photography more seriously now. And I love to know that my videos are helping so thank you! 😊
Thank you so much Phillip! 😍
Hi. I'm new here.
I just wanted to learn about getting a good tripod for my telescope and I landed here.
Being Mexican-American, I'm always inspired when I see a Latin or Hispanic content creator pursuing their dreams, doing what they want to do -- and with so much passion, finesse, understanding and respect for your profession.
Thank you for making a good first impression. Wonderful. Just wonderful.
Such meaningful words! Thank you so much! It made my day reading this. ❤️ and you’re most welcome! I hope you enjoy my channel. 🥰📸
Hi Laura, I like a lot your channel!! I have a question I am learning photography as a hobby, I want to buy a backdrop roller to practice my protraite photography. Can you suggest me what kind of backdrop to buy no too expensive but a good one pls. Thank you Laura! Yo soy latina :) Gloria
Hopefully you have some tips about the noise issue of a7rv. Ive heard of it, and im experiencing it myself, even ay broad daylight.
Really? I have to try it way more but I didn’t experience any noise so far. But I’ll keep you posted! 😊
Hello Laura, thanks for bringing us these videos that are very helpful and guide for those of us who are just starting out. I am struggling a lot to start, I bought a new camera last December and to this day I have not been able to take any photos of absolutely nothing since many times due to lack of time I cannot do it because I have a job that consumes all my day and at night it is very difficult for me, I would love to take pictures for products and I have many ideas but I don't know where to start, I don't know what to do or how I should do it, I get nervous and I think it's not worth bothering when I see many great photographers and I get overwhelmed by it. What can I do to start? to break that barrier? How can I stop thinking about how "complicated it is" and focus on taking even one photo and start? Another thing that demotivates me a lot is that I don't have much space to do a studio and having the lights I don't have much space to be able to work with them...Thank you and appologies for the "mucho texto" :')
Hola! Thank you so much for your words! ❤️ I totally understand how you fell but you have to stop. Stop focusing on other photographers because they felt the same way you feel now. 🥰 You don’t need almost space to start with product photography. Just a table and backdrop. Best advice is to just shoot. Experiment at home with what you have. Nobody is judging so please don’t judge yourself! 😄 Just have fun and focus on getting better. You’ll see how is not that intimidating after all and you’ll be keep learning everyday. ❤️
@@LauraBC Thank you so much!, I'm currently trying and breaking the barrier that holds me from doing what I like !!! I will keep an eye on tour videos aswell to learn more!!
@@elsrrockardo First stop, your local dollar store for some colored posterboards that cost $1 each and then go to walmart and buy a couple $10 desk lamps on aim-able arms or flexible type deals. You know the ones, the cheap lamps college kids take to their dorms.
Viola, a product photography studio on your kitchen table. It's not the best, and it's not going to land you a deal with Rolex or Ferrari, but it will probably be 1000x better than what your local business selling their wares can or will do for themselves with their cell phones. A little creativity at the dollar store and some modest skill with your camera and editing freeware of which there are dozens to choose from online, (which you need to practice with cheap supplies like these anyway eventually) will carry you a very long way for less than $20.
Good luck!
💙👍 Run with an open mind in your chosen profession.
The perfect niche may find you when you least expect it.
Yesssss! Exactly! 😍❤️
Can you do a video where should I begin with lens and how to grow around it. If you can do it for sony apsc that would be really great. It is really confusing with all the choices and focal lengths 🙂 (please talk about the zoom lens if you ever planning to do that kind of a video cause as a beginner I would love to have it )
I love your Cuban accent ;)
Another good tip is to comment and communicate with other photographers. I've never commented on anything at night before. Now I'm relearning myself, and I can already see the effect of this
I am struggling to actually get clients to build my portfolio. Even when offering to do shoots for free. I have tried a couple of different avenues, but I am not getting much in return. I don't know my niche yet! I know I love portraiture, but not sure exactly where I fall within that. Was hoping the free shoots might help distinguish that. I also struggle with imposter syndrome. I have worked as a photographer for other people in the past, but this is the first time I am branching out on my own; and I seem to get in my own head wondering if I am actually good enough. I know I am, but it is hard not to look and compare yourself to other amazing photographers and start doubting myself and getting nervous.
informative video Laura informative points on social media, just competed more BTS video doing a few more photography courses, useful content.
Thank you John! It always makes me so happy to know that you’re always working in your creativity! 😍
Hy Laura! Lighting positions has been the most hectic one.
I have a couple of videos about this but I’ll do more! 😊
@@LauraBC ok ok will look forward to that
I have a random question. What would you recommend as a photographer. Prime Lenses or Zoom Lenses ? From what I have found out so far is that prime lenses appear to be sharper and light weight plus slightly cheaper. What are your thoughts ?
Hola! 😊 Prime lenses are way sharper and they offer an incredibly beautiful shallow depth of field. But zoom lenses are more versatile. Ideally, it’s good to own a zoom lens and then get a prime. But it depends on your niche. I own a few primer because I love portrait photography. 😊
I have a Nikon D5600 It’s my first camera for now it’s been hard because I don’t know how to store them or upload them to my laptop that’s a Microsoft hoping to change to a Mac eventually but I won’t let this stop me
Recently stumbled upon your channel and finding your content very helpful. Love from India.
P.s. dont look up the meaning of your name in Hindi
You can have clients also without instagram, just website and advertisement :D
I like your tips I agree with all except for social media it's a waste of time. You're better off to create your own website and place you work there.
Can you thump that bass you got in the background?
make a video behind seen photoshoot your style 😅
that's most of her videos 😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅
😄🙏🏼
I have many already but I’ll do more 🥰
Ai photos how to sale please guide us if you selling AI images
No, she is a photographer... she takes her own photos. She doesn't type words into a search bar and pretend she created the result. She's an artist, not an art thief.
The only ai involved with photography is what powers software like Photoshop.
I couldn’t have said it better 🥰❤️ Thank you
I don’t generate AI photos. I never will. AI it’s great as a tool for editing but that’s it. At least for me. 😊❤️
First mistake is they buy the wrong camera for their skillset
Why is that a mistake? Regardless of the camera, everyone can use it, even as beginner. They would just use the basic settings till they learn further. I don’t see that as a mistake. More as an investment to avoid spending on a better camera later on. 😊
@@LauraBC the right camera as a beginner is hugely important as it defines which way you are going to go... Dslr or mirrorless. Or just off your phone. Lenses and front caps are another ball game
@@LauraBC and that's not having a go
@@ukhikermarv Everyone has a phone. 😄 We’re talking about cameras. And when choosing a camera, DSLRs are not even being produced anymore. In terms of systems, right now, mirrorless is the way to go. But again, regardless if the camera is a DSLR or Mirrorless, you can learn and take incredible photos with both. As a beginner, you can learn everything you need regardless of the camera you use. 😊 That’s all I meant.
@@LauraBC 1 yes they are and will always beat anohone camera.... As you actually have to have a skill to edit. & Mirrorless are just as good as require
