My hot take: Tailing missions are great. I agree with you a mission only in the industrial section would have been better. I also have to point out that there were some Silent Hill sounds used here, and they work perfectly to create just the right ambiance for a thief mission.
More readables = more for me to keep track of! I wish there was a wiki or other repository of the expanded FM universe; it'd be a lot easier to parse through.
I've been thinking abt that, too, and abt making one if nobody has yet, tho I don't have the time to do all the content-gathering myself (I defo can do the website-making and putting up the content)
Looking forward to watching this, Keeper hideout is beautiful! That was the last mission I finished before hitting the pause button. Indeed, it is not very difficult to supreme-ghost, but the loong loot-hunting in the city-part annoyed me big time, and also robbed me of the time needed to at least try a second run (optimized, and with a ghost report). At the time I played it I thought that we're supposed to follow the keeper closely, but I was clearly misled.
01:47:18 Oh wow... yesterday i learned about this on an iceberg, books that have their covers done... like that. Its called "Anthropodermic bibliopegy" and wouldnt be something weird for the keepers and their hoarding of knowledge to be honest, interesting touch. Anyway, nice missions, like the idea of infiltrating a keeper base of operatios.
Very nice mission. I really liked the visit to the Keepers compound. There are some that argue the Keepers should stay mysterious and unknown but its cool either way to see how they operate. I always liked the glyphs and the Keepers, best part of Thief 3 in my opinion, and it was awesome to see the Hag and her statues even though you obviously cant do anything about her since thats Garret role.
I really only like keepers or their compounds in small amounts, not entire missions like this. I feel they should be in the background and stay mysterious. Understand why people like this hideout though, just not 100% my thing.
Dude, thanks so much for these walkthroughs. Found your channel a couple weeks back and I’ve been trying to watch everything. It’s awesome to have full loot guide. Do you think you’d ever splice some of your supreme ghost runs together to cut out all the reloading? I think it would be cool to see that. Keep up the great work and thanks for taking the time to record these
Many people have asked about cutting out reloads. They're called segmented runs and I did alternate segmented playlists for all T1, T2 and T2X missions, plus a few fan missions. However, those are without commentary because I would cut away a lot of what I say and it would sound disjointed. I tried doing voiceover commentary after the fact for one mission, Kidnap (segmented run), so you can check out that and see what you think. Generally, it was just way too much work.
Finally a FM referencing TDS and things that happen in there. You should definitely play this again after you've played T3, you'd be likely to understand this mission much better.
Good to see the Keepers compound made in "proper" engine. Love the Deadly Shadows references since its a great game with one drawback - limitation of its engine... everything else is equal and some elements are even best out of all 3 original games.
I caught some of this during the live premier but only got to see the full video today, enjoyable as always. Some of my thoughts: 13:18 I would assume that is indeed Garrett’s apartment, at least during my first playthrough that was my feeling. It’s clear that Ramirez is attempting to recruit Garrett in that letter, or strong arm him into making contributions, which aligns with the Assassins briefing. 1:46:47 Jourdain Mafiodus is a reference to Firemage’s real name. It was brought up during the live chat but this whole mission seems to take quite a lot of inspiration from TDS and I know you’re planning on playing that during the summer so this mission may be more meaningful to you afterwards. Some textures and ambient sounds are taken from TDS for example, along with some… things in the restricted library. 1:55:48 I note your comment here that you like the dormitory section. Shameless plug for myself, but my recently released FM (A Thief’s Training) takes more of a Dark Project interpretation of a Keeper compound with this kind of texture usage for example, so would be interested, if you ever get a chance some day, to see what you think of that approach. 2:14:48 I think both Melan and Purah took the inspiration for the Interpreter’s Tower from the cutscene in T2 between Ambush and Eavesdropping. 3:00:26 I think this “running” you’re hearing is probably the scribe keepers carrying books overlapping with other patrols that makes it sound like running. Overall, I liked this mission a lot but I also understand your criticisms. Looking forward to seeing your views on the whole campaign once you finish the video series on it. On a more important note, good win for Liverpool 😊
Nice comment! The chats have been vwry fun. It's a great way for me to interact with my audience and watch the playthrough in the same way you are. Lots of great insight also from viewers also. So much knowledge in this fanbase. Great win indeed, I really hope Liverpool can bring home the title this year. Only 9 games to go. ⚽️
I also got the impression that the apartment at the beginning is Garret's, because in the following mission it was mentioned in a note about Garret that a female Judge suddenly lay down all accusations which is very unlike her. Also, did you notice that all buildings you can get in are of lighter color on the map?
I never picked up on the coloration of the map during my playthrough, but realized it later. The creators confirmed it is indeed Garrett's apartment, and a tie in to Assassins.
Re: the Lesser Sentients: the Medallion of True-Seeing is the one from Between These Dark Walls, I think? Anyway, congratulations on a successful run; the Sanctuary area is really magnificent, although I agree with the sentiment that, for a place this huge and complex and mysterious...there seems to be little to do besides reading lore books and grabbing loot.
Yeah somebody in chat also reminded me of that medallion, I didn't remember it from These Dark Walls. The poll I ran during chat 50% of viewers put this mission in the bottom half of the campaign. Split opinion.
Did anyone else find the infinite crate up on top of the building where the sleeping guard is? I managed to get there from the other side from the rooftops of Demovand Manor. Ever since I spotted the crates there from the street level, I was suspecting some secrets there.
The heart in the wieldstrom museum, Chalice in St Edgars, the jacknalls paw and gruliacs crown are all objectives in different levels in thief 3. Don't be put off, it's an excellent thief game.
The Black Parade, and this mission in particular, also convinced me to go try Thief Deadly Shadows for the first time. I'm currently about a third of the way through the game. I like the story and atmosphere a lot so far, but the controls/physics are definitely a bit clunky (moreso than Thief 1 & 2 somehow) and the level design is a noticeable step down. I tried it a few years ago and couldn't get past the bad controls, but the Sneaky Upgrade mod made that much more tolerable. So far I'd say it's a good game but not a great game like the first 2 entries. Definitely worth a one time playthrough based on my experience so far, but not one you'll be revisiting much after. At least it's better than Thief 2014, the less said about that the better.
You need specific tweaks to be able to have a tolerable experience of Thief 3. That game was made for the first xbox and suffered as a result. You can check out various people explaining what Tweaks and light modding should be done. I personally used Mandaloregaming review to calibrate my experience, he explain in the first part how to properly set up Thief 3.
I'm definitely looking forward to playing it now that people have made it more manageable with all the tweak tools. Plus all the black Parade references makes it more interesting.
I dislike this mission compared with others in the set - while some parts are very cool, I found the first "layer" of underground cityworks confusing and the second layer, the hideout, a real pain to ghost through. Still an incredible end result, but I know there's a lot I missed- and I'm looking forward to seeing it!
Agree with some of your points there. This mission is in my bottom 3 of the whole campaign, but that doesn't mean it's a bad mission, as the bar is set extremely high. It's just a bit below the rest I feel.
I feel that Gamall's inclusion was a bit of a wasted opportunity here. I highly doubt she would have revealed herself so easily in a keeper sanctuary. Having her be the once to help you in secret or interact with the player in some way for some duplicitous reason would have been more fitting.
Yeah, but one would not only have to see glyphs to access the sanctuary, but also find the ring to access the restricted library to even get in contact with her, so I don't think "so easily" is maybe the correct way of phrasing it. I think her inclusion was awesome and it makes me look forward to seeing her again in Thief 3.
Okay so, I think actually the biggest detriment you had playing this is that you haven't played Thief: Deadly Shadows. While it may also be a little bit of a blessing from a roleplaying perspective i.e since you are Hume not Garrett and this takes place before all 3 games, from a viewer perspective the multiple references to it going over your head without nary a mention was a little bit disappointing. The bit with Gamall was about as heavy handed a reference ive ever seen, so much so it smacks of being amateurish, I actually facepalmed.
I actually didn't expect there to be a mission this heavy in T3 references. I probably don't even know about half of them yet, but it makes me look forward to T3 more.
I'll play it for myself this summer after TBP and Patriot. Then if it's good enough and I want to ghost it, I'll play it on the channel. No guarantees though.

Yes interesting mission, but not 100% my cup of tea. Lots and lots of readables. 📖
This mission is by far one of my favorites and I love going to the forums and reading all the peoples reactions. glad your doing a playthrough. :)

I liked that mission. Was very atmospheric. Didn't feature any zombies or ghosts..that's a plus.
