The Prepper's Cabin - In The Middle of Nowhere

- It is a remarkable thing when people come together and do something wonderful. Out in the back country of Nevada up in the hills hides an old mining community. To keep this little slice of history together, some good samaritans decided to put their skills to good use and preserve an older cabin.
They also decided to stock it with food, drink, pots, pans, places to sit, places to sleep, and a clean place to take refuge from the outside. Creating a glimpse into how the miners that used to work this lands might have lived themselves. With an old tool shed and shop/garage area there was plenty for us to explore. As well as a large collection of random items that most likely were to be reused for other purposes. This was a very cool place to have a wonder around and we would like to thank Kat for pointing us in this direction.

To all Preppers and wannabe Preppers . I've been Prepping for over 20 years . Take my advice. If there is a SHTF situation the Nevada Desert is not the place to go. Water being the main obstacle. Firewood is the other problem, Too many problems to name , find a place that has a water source and fairly decent climate for growing food.
I've been to a lot of desert spots with decent water. Usually there's a cabin or old homestead nearby.
Agreed but few and far between. I used to hunt Mule deer with my dad and Gpa in the Ruby Mountains of North Eastern Nevada. If I was going to move to Nevada it would be somewhere in that vicinity.@@doug6885
Thank you Jamesbolling ! I see so many running to the desert I grew up 17 years in one desert or another in the Middle East, I will never live in another one life is hard why make it harder on yourself just starting out? Water is a must and getting a company to come drill 250-350?ft isn’t cheap
dont pass away before shtf or all those yrs will have been in vain!
I have a feeling that cabin may not be abandoned.
It’s a volunteer cabin officially Charles. But it does looked lived in
@@PinInTheAtlas Interesting: I didn't see the typical flagpole mount near the front door (or, did I just miss it?)
Strange that somebody would leave that kind of stuff at a volunteer cabin, especially a trencher - unless they're there on a very regular (almost daily) basis.
One of the best "volunteer cabins" I've ever seen! Thank you to those folks who are keeping it up.
Totally agree Lesley
The main cabin looks like it was cleaned this morning. I am amazed, thanks for taking me along!
Happy you joined us.
It is so nice to be reminded just how thoughtful, and generous people can be. They have gone out of their way to ensure the well being of others. I wonder if there was a book to sign, and when the last visitor was there. Thank you Andrea, and Steven. This was so enjoyable.
🏠🏜🙏🏻👏🏻💛🌞
Didn’t see a sign in book. But we did leave some cans of food
Another nice place. People coming together to save our history.
They probably went to town and will be surprised when they see their home on you tube.
🤣
One of the best cabins I've seen in anyone's explore videos! Thanks for bringing us along!
We’ve never come across anything like this Kerry
That place was amazing, I hope someone keeps up with taking care of it.
Good find. Nice job documenting it!
Thank you
Great find and video! A friend of mine use to work with developing water systems for remote mountain villages in South America. There rarely was resources for plumbing water to individual toilets and they would install the toilet and the user would carry a 5 gallon bucket of water to flush it. It looked to me that might have been the situation there.
More than likely Norm. There was a bucket nearby.
THANK YOU,COOL PLACE..NICE TO SUCH NICE WX AND BLUE SKY..SAFE TRAVELS..
WOW LOOK AT ALL THOSE ORBS
THERE MUST HAVE BEEN A LOT OF PEOPLE IN AND OUT OF THIS PLACE AND YOU CALLED THEM IN FOR SUPPER
AMAZING
Awesome video thanks for taking me along
Wow you folks are really finding some interesting places. Thanks for sharing your explore.🖤🖤🖤
You’re welcome Jake.
That place is on my list.
Whow what a great volunteer cabin. Could live there quite easily and looked like a great road up to the property.
It was. Just miles in the middle of nowhere. Couple of hours at least to get supplies I would have thought.
I have this one pinned for awhile but always seem to skip it due to time constraints. Great explore!
You’ll enjoy it Doug.
The product that i recall is Rust-Oleum. Its great for preventing rust.
What a beautiful abandoned place. I sincerely hope it is protected and preserved by people like you, who take the rest of us out to those distant and lonely places. IB old, but I sure do enjoy tagging along on your adventures.
Glad you join us Kris.
This is a volunteer cabin we’re guessing. Those people are amazing.
This is someone's prepper cabin. Im sure it isn't abandoned.
@@annhernandez8808 it’s an adopt a cabin Ann. Volunteers have taken it on and keep it up. There’s a registration book in the cabin. When people want to stay they put the American flag up to let people know the cabin is occupied and take it down when they leave. Very common especially in Nevada but also we’ve come across them in California Arizona and Montana
That's a nice cabin, could make a home there for a short period of time.
Definitely 👍
An amazing setup 😊. They can come anytime to my place and renovate 😊. Great act of kindness 😊 . Thanks as always for sharing the good and bad sides. That toolbox was left for tonto 😂😊.
They took their time with this one certainly. Hats off to those volunteers.
Tonto didn’t like the way it made his backside look 🤣
@@PinInTheAtlas oh well can’t please everyone 🤣😎🤔
@@tinadelwiche416 😂
Hi Steve and Andrea - what an amazing place! About the closest approach to 5 star living that I can recall in your explores. I have seen some bizarre abandoned junk in my time, but I have never before seen a section of spiral staircase!
Pretty neat place eh Brian?
@16:50 Thats funny. It reminded me of Gilligan's Island.
Hello yes you did find a Gold mine ⛏️being this very homie volunteer cabin this all looks like maybe a part 2 coming we hope .Nice Chevy or Dodge gravel truck to haul supplies as well thank you for the great explore looks like a great place for Tonto to rest as well. Happy star gazing 🏆🤔
Thanks Case. You’ll need to stay tuned!
Definitely one of the better cabins you found.
The cabinet with the “big knobs “ reminds me of one my parents had in the 70’s
The only thing to keep this place from serving as a haven in times of emergency would be the lack of water. Trucking it in is hard labor. Otherwise what an accomidation. Love that old stove in the sunny room.
So true Deborah.
What a terrific place.
Just amazing how it appears that everyone just up and left. Pretty cool 😎 place, for sure. Did they actuall mine there?
Yes we think so. There were tailing piles and a mine not too far away.
I wish that place was mine we all may need that soon
This really is a well supplied cabin. I wonder if someone frequents this area. Gramma candy
Judging by the dates on some of the food we’d say not on a regular basis. Volunteer cabin by all accounts
The indoor bathroom, the bucket is for flushing the toilet. You can catch used water from your shower or use what ever fresh source there is.
It has a nice layout. I spent the night there a few years back. Another great video!
I remember that video Dave. It was a good one
For a remote prepper's cabin, it's pretty luxurious.
It’s an old miners cabin that has been renovated by volunteers as an adopt a cabin for people to stay at for a night or two. They are all over Nevada. This one is most definitely the best and most stocked we’ve seen!
Great video and what a super cool find.a Man or woman could live there happily for a long time .to get away from the noise and hurry of things. Keep up the great job,be safe out there.
Thank you See you on our next adventure
Looks like a place somebody left. With the intention of going back. But for some reason didn't.
ive seen another do this place but I think these folk's video is more in depth..
Not sure but it’s been taken over by volunteers now who look after it and keep it stocked.
This could be a weekend getaway or just get away from the hustle of city life. It looks to be lived in.
This cacin is a pretty well set up "home". So thankful the losers haven't found it. Nice trip.
Tile saws use water to keep the blade cool, as well.
There was no logbook there?
Not that we could see Peter
That ornate wood burner that Andrea was commenting on is just about the worst stove you could have . Rented a farm house for 34 years and was stuck with it .I think it's called the HearthStove , funny don't remember the name it wasn't really very efficient good thing I had unlimited wood of course .A fancy little ceramic medallion was mounted in the center of the door that was nice.Just a heads up on that stove . Enjoying the content always interesting and fun . Thanks Guys.
I guess it was just to look pretty!
Glad you are enjoying our content. See you on our next adventure.
Great moving over there now 😂
I don't think that place is abandoned it is someone's off grid shtf retreat
It’s a volunteer cabin Jerrold.
Tsk, you ignored the old truck.
On the cutting room floor Jan. Didn’t come out
Sure is a lot of stuff there. Of all kind of different things. If I ever do get by there someday, I'll try to bring a book, some VHS tapes, and a couple of DVD's. I use to tap the drums Steven. All we need is a bass player. And Andrea. Next time you hit that Dinner Bell, hit it hard. We be Hungry.
Well there’s plenty of food there Michael
Did you guys film this a while ago? The building with the roll-up door and the outhouse sized one to the NW of it seem to be missing in the 12/2022 Google Earth photo. Your FWC also reverted back to the camper shell! In April 22, I parked by the headframe and walked up over the rise to the camp. Didn't know it was there and it looked like someone was living there, so I took off quick! I could swear there was more than 1 building at that time but maybe not. Great channel BTW, we watch all the time!
Well spotted. Yes it was a while ago. Glad you enjoy the channel.
I dont think thats a deserted place ..the people probably come back and spend time there .
Apparently it is a volunteer cabin. One of the best we’ve seen.
Good morning you 2. It's Ted from Texas. Is that one of the survivor's cabinets that are in the middle of the desert? It definitely is well stocked and well maintained inside please be careful in the desert there's lots of strange people wandering around . See you in the next video
Hi Ted. Yes it is a volunteer adopt a cabin. The best stocked one we’ve seen!
Always careful. More terrifying in the cities!
Snowblower, Lol.
I often wonder what happened to the people that put all that work into some of these places . Work and money 💰
We think some pass, maybe get too old to work the mines or run out of money. Would be interesting to know!
It sounded like someone else said "hello" at 9:19.
There was just the two of us there! We didn’t hear anything but you never know!
I definitely heard hello.
@@nancyst.john-smith3891 strange!
Off grid remote rural NSW here Australia noticed the ladies British accent she is better of there than in the UK from what I have been seeing of late wise move lady. Dual UK and Australian citizen here as in grew up in Australia . Lets all hope the S** doesn't hit the fan don't need a crystal ball 2 see it coming, nice set up there with ancillaries but looks like a prepper gatherer bits and pieces and not a think you Americans refer to it as a bug out spot , the topography lacks water but an interesting cheche dump as in machinery and materials to use as back up, but I digress its been on occasion mentioned I do so. Just read through the comments a volunteer cabin OK . Get it learnt something new 2 day justified my existence.
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.
Sure looks like someone still goes there
I can't believe this place is still intact...was there any idea who "owns" this area? Crazy....good video!
Public lands when we were there according to the sheriff who told us about the place
Not very dusty inside the Miner's cabin. Looks like just left.
It does doesn’t it. The volunteers and people who stay in these cabins normally do an incredible job of keeping them clean
Whats the date on the canned goids?
They were all over the place. Some from the 90s. We did leave a few cans of veg which were in date
How do know notice was expired? Claim can be renewed by paying fees. You really don't know
Adopt a cabin Carol. Lots of them in Nevada. Suggested by local cop
i sure hope you werent on actual private property that could get ugly
No. Public land at the time of filming. Suggested by local law enforcement. Think that puts us in the clear!
Are you sure you guys should have been snooping around this place?
Not snooping. It’s an old miners cabin adopted by volunteers plus a local police officer told us to go check it out.
That is NOT an abandoned miner's shack. Hope you don't get shot for trespassing. Just because they don't live there full time does not give you the right to invade their privacy.
This is an adopt a cabin where volunteers have taken it upon themselves to do the place up for anyone to visit and stay. You fly the American flag when it’s occupied. There are dozens of them throughout Nevada California Arizona. We’ve even found them in Montana. This particular cabin location is actually on public lands and was given to us by the local sheriff.
What preparation can be made of any consequence for the actual end of the world? The outcome is totally negative - death.
People do what they feel they need to do.
Trash burner
She opens door's like God might be on the other side. Why do preppers keep pushing the desert? Try pushing trees where water will be easier to find.
You should leave now , some is living there,it's not for you to go through!!!!!!!!!😮
This is an adopt a cabin Anita. Done up by volunteers. It’s on public land and the location was given to us by a local sheriff
Ok thanks 👍 I sorry just don't like it when people are going through other people things, and saying it is abandoned......
@@anitaboothe5378 totally agree with you. Neither do we.
I don't think this place was abandoned just someone hasn't been there for a little bit
It’s an adopt a cabin Floyd. Lots of them around especially in Nevada
