I am so sorry things have been unsettled, hopefully Henry is feeling better. It sounds like Violet needs a bit more time to settle in - it is such a massive change for most students. Although Saffron did not live away for uni so she didn't have to deal with all of the life admin that involved - shopping, laundry, cooking, cleaning etc.. but even just dealing with the change in teaching style and the new university learning systems was a struggle at first. It is early days bless her and by not rushing in Violet won't be spending the rest of her first year avoiding people that she rushed into friendships with in her first weeks! Love Parveen xxx
you are so right, it's everything isn't it? Being away from home, having to feed themselves and do the laundry. It's a lot and it takes so much time to adjust. But, I think we are starting to get there. I don't want to jinx anything, but I've noticed several positive changes lately. Totally agree about not rushing into friendships, that's one area that I think she is being very sensible about. She tells me she has 'beef' with some people, I disagree, she just doesn't like them and that's perfectly ok. We can't like everyone! Hope all is well wiht you Parveen, feels like a long time since we spoke in email. x💘
I was lucky as my daughter loved uni right from the beginning ,being a quiet girl I was surprised at the same time happy for her but I was also sad as I felt not needed any longer. She graduated last year and is working as a paramedic, we are so proud of her. I am sure Violet will settle in given time, uni is a huge life change and she misses her mum x
oh Sarah, it's so hard being a mum isn't it? The way we have to encourage and be there for them, then feel sad when not needed as much! I get that totally. Love this comment, and appreciate you sharing it. It has been so uplifting to read how other young people got on at uni, even if they struggled at first and then came to enjoy it. It has been a real help, and I love that yur daughter was quiet but loved it straightaway, that's just fantastic to hear. x 💜
Lovely to see you again, Sadie! I'm so sorry Violet had a rough transition into uni - you have my heartfelt empathy (my eldest has had many struggles with mental health over the years and so I can appreciate your need to drop everything and be a mum!). I'm glad things are improving now...as you say, I'm sure she'll be thriving in no time. And it's no wonder she got ill -- stress will do that...not to mention all the germs flying around! And poor Henry Cat!! He's been through the wars! I remember making clove oranges once - ONCE being the operative word....it took ages for my thumbs to heal lol! Using the skewer is a much better idea!
Thank you, you totally get it. It has been so hard and heartbreaking, especially when she got so ill. Bill left early one morning to pick her up and I was so shocked at how scrawny and sickly she looked. But we do what we have to do, and I'm rather proud of her for going back and getting on with it. She's tougher than she realises! x
Thanks for sharing Sadie:) It’s nice that Violet came to you for support-that makes us feel really good as moms, and useful! I’m sure she will adjust and find her tribe soon. I am having a tough time with my daughter who is in 3rd year uni-she is in a bit of a selfish phase and not very grateful for much these days, definitely not me!! One day at a time:) Henry looked so sore…that’s stressful constantly watching for him not to jump. My dachshund puppy isn’t suppose to jump up or down and that’s simply impossible to stop. A nice vlog, thank you. Oh I love that vase with pumpkins…that would be so expensive in Canada.
oh crikey Nicole, you have your work out there then! I can sympathise entirely. I hope your daughter changes her attitude towards you soon, they are certainly sent to try us aren't they?! Sometimes I think our children forget we are just people as well as parents. Pets are also sent to try us and you have your hands full with your little doggy! Why do they have to be such hard work?! I dithered over the pumpkin vase, mainly because I didn't exactly need it, but I'm glad I got it. x
Hello again Sadie, So sorry to hear about Henry's accident, let's hope he's feeling better soon. My daughter hated university for most of her first year. She was in halls & had nothing in common with her housemates. She went really thin and developed a really bad spotty complexion, having had lovely skin up to that point, which really knocked her confidence. She persevered though and found her true friends from tbe 2nd year onwards when they moved into a student house. She began to enjoy it all and finally graduated. She's now a secondary school teacher and is firm friends with her uni friends, even though they all live in different parts of the UK. For us mums though it's a stressful time for sure!! You have my sympathy. X
Thank you for sharing this, I appreciate it so much and it really does help to know about other young people who struggled but overcame it. It helps a lot. Your poor daughter, that must have been so hard for her and just as hard for you. I love that she grew to love uni and has made such good lifelong friends. Bill is still good friends with two of his uni pals and I love that. I really hope it will be the same for Violet. Thanks for the good wishes for Henry. Cats! Kids! Hard to know which are more stress! x
Hi Sadie, glad to see you're back. So sorry to hear about Henry, glad he's on the mend. Going to university is a major step for young people! I'm sorry Violet didn't settle easily. It is a major transition. Hopefully she will start to enjoy herself very soon. My son didn't go away to uni, but then went to The States!! All you can do is to be there for them. Being a mum comes first. X
oh my goodness, that must have been quite the wrench for you when your son went away! We have to help them to go out into the world, but it's not always easy is it? The worry! Thank you, love yur comment and thank you for the Henry good wishes, he's being a bit too jumpy for my liking today! x
Thank you Joanne, he's been jumping onto the island today, makes my heart stop to see him do that but cats are always going to do cat things! Thank you x
Lovely to hear from you again. I dislike halloween intensely but do like how you decorated your porch, the wreath is lovely. Hope Violet has settled in now and made new friends, it is a big step for her and takes time to adjust. x
I’m not a Halloween fan either. I don’t buy sweeties, keep the lights off & don’t answer the door! I’m the Halloween grinch, but I do like pumpkins 🎃 & any excuse to make a wrest I’ll take. Violet is doing better, thank you. Still not totally happy but I honestly think she is going to love it ❤ x
