A lot of the problems with apps is that phone OS doesn't let you actually kill processes. Apps will run in the background scraping data off your phone to sell to advertisers which drains your battery and is why you get ads for stuff you said out loud. Every new app is another leech.

Funnily enough about the BlueSky announcement, unlike twitter (which heavily locked down their API), you can stream, in real time, every single post on the platform. They might not train AI on your posts, but they sure do make it REALLY EASY for anyone to do so, with about 20 lines of code.

I'm playing Stalker 2 while watching this. Only a few hours in, pretty good so far. 1 crash, but that may have been me alt-tabbing too much or the mods. Did have to crank the mouse sensitivity up and rebind some keys. Why is it short press for quick slot 1 and long press for quick slot 2!? Oh, because consoles. /sigh. It's very faithful to the original Stalker, so far. They mention Strelok, but only in passing so far. The inventory is super tight, the monsters have too much hp, the AI has aimbotitis still, just like the old one. Mods are already out to fix that (or make it even harder if you're so inclined). Thank the game devs for keeping all their configs open for modding.

I honestly dont think that the goal behind cutting those cables was massive outage. You'd have to be very ill informed to not know that there are more than just those two cables (and I would assume that typically the people behind these actions are rather well informed). To me this feels more like a mix of a threat and the simple intent of spreading uncertainty and insecurity in europe. Nothing feeds more on insecurity than easy answers and populist ideas (also makes it more likely that people dont want to go against you).
Personally - I think we need more separation of advertiser and content. I say - if you want to advertise, you should have no say in where it goes. This kills two birds with one stone. No more Karens calling for boycots over where ads are and no more targeted advertising/tracking. Heck, maybe 3 if you count that maybe there will be less ads to ruin our days.
But there is the reality of disrupted cabling and the PR. Take Nordstream; not only did Russia supply only a minority, there are lots of pipes from Russia and capacity there only went 50% to 25%, so wholesale prices are about half of what they were but look at the PR; they’ve single handily brought down the German Economy which was reliant on “cheap Russian energy” even though we’ve had a single market in EU since 1990s and for over 20 years it’s not been possible to sell things at different prices in different EU countries.

Luckily, once again this year it was turkey business as usual. Grocery stores are selling Butterball turkeys for $.99/lb and store brand/other lesser brands for $.49/lb. I have it easy; I just go to my sister's house where they pay for everything. 2 Butterball turkeys; one cooked in the oven and one smoked, and all the sides. Some people on my brother in law's side of the family usually bring some kind of cake or pie so there is more variety than "just" pumpkin pie.
